Hi everyone, after over one year of reading previous threads and this current one I finally decided to join Nairaland today. It's good to be here. I hope this thread continues to keep up it reputation of brotherhood and progressiveness. I've gone through quite a number of steps already in my pursuit of further education in Germany. I have an interview booked for August 2nd and I'm already compiling a Germany Quick Fact & interview likely Q & A for my use. I'll post it here once I'm done with it. Thanks everyone and God bless.

with your one year transcripts, you can apply for an English taught course and get admitted into an English teaching University. you don't need the B1 cert for that.

How long will it take dem to notify of ur admission status after the interview

You will be admitted instantly if you can convince the interviewers of your sufficient knowledge about the article and the subject matter. My advice, do not depend solely on that article. Do all round research about the subject. Get simple definition about every single term used in the article. I wish you all the best. [/quote]

Please those of us in Germany share your typical work experiences too. My sister katechucks your welcome. Please share your too. all this work guys are claiming to do here share it let us know how the job is like.

Other points i forgot:
For every and any job you must sign a job contract. Whether its to pack poo. You must sign contract.
German employees only employ the minimum number that can get the job done. Sometimes a job that like in Nigeria will take 4 people to do, here it will likely be 1 person doing it. I sometimes pass through road maintenance and i always see just a hand full of workers. Its not like Naija where you see up to 30 people on only one spot on the road. They don't hire high numbers here. That is why you would go to a restaurant to eat and after eating you will pack your plates by yourself. Or you would be thirsty on the road and you would slot in money into a machine and get a drink by yourself. No iya Bola selling coke on the road. Or you need to buy a ticket for transport fare and a machine will sell it to you. At a gas station there are no attendants, you serve yourself and pay to the machine. Everything here is machine, machine sad
Thanks abunch for this insight. I really wonder if you work this hard evryday how you makeup for your intensive studies as they say.. Also, what about internship opportunities? Are their any? I tried checking up on the web it didn't seem available

A typical working day as Student in Germany

I just want to share this for those curious to know how it is like to work here.

As a student you are most likely going to be at best a temporary or casual staff. You must submit your residence permit and proof that you are currently in school. Other documents depending on the company / agency are your Tax number, Police report, Insurance, social security number, Bank account details, etc.

The job I would describe here is a kitchen job. Now note that everyone does its including German students. Many will require you have the ability to speak Deutsch but if you are lucky a fewer number will allow you work with little Deutsch at A1. But don't risk it, it pays to learn and speak Deutsch. Another thing to note is that you should expect menial physical jobs that require the use of your legs, hands. Cleaning homes, hotels, ships, offices, working in kitchens, carrying load, factory jobs (tough job), Care and cleaning of pets, Picking garbage from homes, sorting out garbage (the smell embarassed) and many more under this category. I mean the type of job that you would do and get home really exhausted. If you know that you are omo mummy or an aje butter sorry o Germany is not for you LOL. For the females, its not the type of job that you will come to the office and gossip with your mates while fileing your manicured nails and rubbing pancake. And for the males it is not the kind of jobs that you will wear your chinos trousers, tuck in your nice well starched shirts with you nice wristwatch while playing games with your Ipad tongue

Kitchen job in Nigeria
The pay for this job in Nigeria is was what it is, pocket money far less than minimum wage. A boss expects you to be there early to help in preparing the ingredients, to cook, to clean, to serve, to receive payments and ofcourse to run to the market whenever anything finished. A typical Naija Madam would not allow you to serve yourself to eat. You can be served with only a piece of meat. Your salary may not come on time and your job is not filed in the government records. While working one could be yelled at, called f*oolish(or other names), ears drawn or even slapped if one falls beyond expectation. Customers can look down on one as a 'mere' restaurant worker. They can makes snide remarks like Madam this your girl is getting fat on your food o shocked or they can send you to buy recharge card etc. This is just a typical scenerio that plays out while doing a menial job in Nigeria.
Now in Germany this is how a kitchen job looks like
I work on shifts. I could be asked to resume work as early as 4am on a morning shift. I could also be put on a shift that closes by 2am midnight. The working hours in this country in any sector can be really c*razy. Its not funny when its winter and you must get your lazy behind to meet up the train to take you to work. Some jobs can be far and the weather can be really unfriendly. You cannot call your boss to say its too cold i cant make it to work shocked I am talking about from 6 degree to -18 degree freeezing cold. I heard it could get colder. Thats how the job timing is for most of us here, for different kind of jobs.
Now at work, your colleagues from different countries mostly speak Deutsch and struggle to speak English (most times). You would be lucky to get a supervisor who can pass instructions in English. Now work time in Germany is WORK TIME!! The number of hours that you are supposed to be at work, you are expected to work really hard, fast, no picking calls, no loitering etc. It is not the typical naija job work environment. You are supposed to be at your duty post throughout doing nothing but getting down to work. There is no male or female job. What a man can do, a woman can do it here, physical, manual labour too. You could be yelled at and they don't joke with speed and time. But no one will slap you, or any physical assault. You would be paid on time and the agreed rate. When its lunch you are allowed to eat anything and everything on the menu as was served to customers- i mean anything and any quantity you can eat. Your boss does not expect to be called a special name like Sir, or Oga their name is fine. If his name is James call him James and he is very okay with it. Sitting on the same table to eat with your boss is nothing. And your not expected to clear his plates too smiley All jobs are filled to government records. If you are falling below expectations they would not bat an eyelid to fire you.
Tired of typing. Let me correct an impression, generally in Germany one is expected to be paid minimum wage of 8.50 euros or higher. However under the table jobs that pay by hand mostly pay less than minimum wage and also those in some very dry towns eg in some dry towns in east germany were even menial jobs cannot be found do pay less. I know someone getting 3.50 per hour unfortunately

Hehehe you just gave an apt description of kitchen hustle.... on Point!

Let me write mine too. But I'm not a fan of writing long essays. Anyway here is my story so far.
I came to Germany as everyone else and decided to learn the language first, during this period the kind of jobs i did were just the normal "Umzugshilfe" which literally is relocation assistance kind of work. I did this job because I was paid in cash, no giving of bank details and no tax whatsoever. Take note, if you are not strong enough, don't try this job. The last job i did nearly broke my spine after moving household stuffs from a second floor apartment to a third floor apartment without lifts and with a narrow stairs, that was what broke the last straw in me.
Meanwhile, I was earning 100€ monthly, if you ask me from where, i can't write that here. But it was legal and had all my records on it. So, the other job was just a side job which wasn't regular but I earned at least 50€ per day and the most i have earned was 100€ for 3hrs, thar was from the last job.

After my language exams my studies began, I was able to express my self to most of my profs in German and they were amazed as to how fluent i was in the language within a short period of time. This created an opportunity for me and I got a HIWI contract, my duty was translating a part of the University's' site to English. This was a turning point in my life. I worked directly from home at my convenience which gave me flexibility. Although it is always good working from home, but you need a high level of discipline if you want to achieve maximum work time. This job gave me the opportunity to play around TYPO3 and now i am good working with it. It is already on my CV..lol.

Before my contract expired, I got another offer to work in another Faculty as a computer technician and text corrector. my job details was simple, format bible text in office or latex and ensure all PC and projectors are working efficiently. I had to put the job on hold till August, this has been my work experience so far.
Meanwhile, I have also worked in a logistic factory for two weeks, earned some hard cash but the pain afterwards is a story for another day. I have not worked in the kitchen despite reading lots of adverts, most of my German friends work in a bar or club or restaurant. So its no big deal working in the Gastronomiebranche.

Barka da sallah house, I'm in a jam. Uni-assist just got back to me that my my application is incomplete. They stated that "The copy of the documentation of your studies in the original language, issued by your university". That it wasn't sufficiently authenticated and show original stamp/signature. Despite the fact I did certify at the embassy with my other docs. My issue is;
1) What document are they talking about? Is it my school certificate? Transcript? (I'm applying with statement of result)

2)How do I go about resolving this because time is of the essence. Thanks.

Sorry the screen grab text might be small.

If you dissect their email properly, they acknowledge that you sent the required documents, but complained about the certification. This may be due to a number of reasons. Did you submit certified copies of your certificate or statement of result? I guess they need your certificate. To overcome this hurdle, you may need to certify your statement of result from your school (if your certificate is not ready). To be on a safer side, mail/call them and ask for the specific document(s) affected.
