G35 is a very nice car and strongly built, too. It makes you stand out from the crowd. Parts are available. It has a self diagnostic feature that you can active to know the cause of a problem. This eliminates trial and error-cut throat mechanics and scanning fees. I'm a proud owner. '03 G35. Teebond: |

Good evening my gurus in the house. What could be responsible for my fx reverse gear dragging when its engaged.? Scanned it with no codes coming up except the only code that has been there for 7months.(Its a cruise control stuff) The D works perfectly, but the R is dragging.I need to rev up to 2000 rpm before it reverses. I hope its not what am thinking though? |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 8:39pm On Jul 07, 2016 |
Osama10:Could be many things indeed. But you may proceed from the simple by checking the level and state of your atf, and the control rod under the shift lever for looseness. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Osama10(m): 8:54pm On Jul 07, 2016 |
Costee: Chairman, Atf is ok , double checked it this evening. I think I would look at the control rod tommorow,is it a DIY stuff? |

Kudos to you guys for doing great job here. I posted to the wrong section the problem of my reverse gear. I am having issue with my nissan versa 2007 Auto tranny reverse gear (Not responsive at all). It started this morning without given any signs and i took it to auto technicians at University of Ibadan. They initially complained of not servicing the gear, later we agreed they change the oil and clean the filter. The filter was filled with sludge and thoroughly cleaned but the reverse gear still refuse to respond to acceleration unless i rev higher. They eventually asked me to consult a gear specialist to fix it. Please advice. Thanks |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 11:31pm On Jul 07, 2016 |
lakefist:Is yours a cvt or normal auto tranny? What transmission fluid was used? Better still post the VIN. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by lakefist(m): 8:59am On Jul 08, 2016 |
Costee: Thanks, Its a normal auto transmission and here is the VIN 3N1BC11E57L455202 Your advice will be of great help thanks. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by kingreign(m): 9:58am On Jul 08, 2016 |
Osama10: Check your brakes for binding. It could cause such. If your differential isn't having hyoid oil in it it could also cause similar issue accompanied with noise. If you're in Abuja contact Mike 07034581213 Lagos contact Gazzuzz 08023251039 For inspection, diagnosis and fixing the issues. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 10:00am On Jul 08, 2016 |
lakefist: You are having issues with your reverse drum/clutch/seal. It will continue until reverse is completely lost. Repair or replacement is needed. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 10:02am On Jul 08, 2016 |
lakefist:Ok. It's black; 1.8L; May 2007. What atf was used? Was it scanned? |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Osama10(m): 10:06am On Jul 08, 2016 |
kingreign: The brakes are not binding. I would check the differential, am in Port Harcourt. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 10:06am On Jul 08, 2016 |
kingreign: Brake binding or differential issue will show in reverse and forward. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 3:27pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Kashif:A very strong possibility. Somehow, however, my own very limited personal experience of Jatco/Nissan trannies is that when the vehicle does not creep and there are no codes the issues are localised to the valve body, specifically a clogged line pressure solenoid valve. There are two sets of three solenoids that power the vb in Osama10's RE5R05A transmission. The first set: line pressure;torque converter; front brake. The second set: direct clutch;input clutch; high & low reverse clutch. Osama10 would have to be lucky to meet a trans specialist like you who would decide to attack the issue either from inside the trans case as you have suggested or from outside it as I'm inclined. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Osama10(m): 3:35pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Costee: Hmmmn, to get a good trans specialist in pH now? I don't think I know anyone around.Selling on my mind now. Costee, Still interested? |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 3:57pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Osama10:Hey, and get myself saddled with two V8 engines and two RE5R05A trannies Seriously, watch it awhile for more definitive symptoms. |

Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 11:09pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
Costee: Low line pressure will affect forward and reverse, not only reverse. Forwards will even suffer more because reverse commands more pressure. Other problems that will have system effect are TC, pump, filter, etc. Pressure concerns are evident in shift feels - harsh, soft, delayed, stacked etc. My money is on the reverse members on this one. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 2:06am On Jul 09, 2016 |
Kashif:Quite agree. Anyway, I decided to consult the fsm on the matter, and here's what turned up: On Vehicle 1. A/T fluid level and state 2. Line pressure test 3. Accelerator pedal position sensor 4. ATF pressure switch 5 and direct clutch solenoid valve 5. PNP switch 6. CAN communication line 7. Control linkage adjustment 8. Control valve with TCM Off Vehicle 9. Torque converter 10. Oil pump assembly 11. 1st one-way clutch 12. Gear system 13. Reverse brake 14. Direct clutch 15. Forward one-way clutch 16. Forward brake Yeah, there's a strong point for the reverse members (off vehicle); but I'd still try my hands on #4 in the vb (on vehicle). At all events, it seems Osama10's tranny has elected to embark on an end time journey. |

Costee: Yes boss Black. I met the Atf there when i bought it and changed it when i noticed the issue. I am going for a comprehensive scan today will get you the report. Thanks for your help so far. This thread is the best so far! |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Kashif(m): 2:05pm On Jul 09, 2016 |
Costee: Which one is fsm? Your list is endless. I will start with clutch pressure guage if it lands at my bay. Before consulting clutch application chart, can you tell me what CAN, PNP, TC, pump etc have to do with dragging reverse, when forward is good? TC and pump for instance do not care/know if you are in forward or reverse. They maintain same output. |

I really need to know the recommended engine oil for Nissan Infinity FX 35. 2004 model. I'm based in Lagos also need to know where i can buy it. Experts in the house kindly assist. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Nobody: 2:47pm On Jul 09, 2016 |
Kashif:Lol. The list is not mine. FSM is factory service manual. And in this case it's for 2004 FX. But you know that these transmissions are driven as much by electronic gizmos as by mechanical components. That's why the items on the upper list should not be discountenanced. At any rate, if Nissan says the PNP switch could cause the present issue in their transmission it's up to us to check it out. If sufficiently interested, I could find a way of passing the FSM over to you. I truly wish Osama10 could land this in your bay. PS. I consulted the symptoms chart, not clutch application chart, which is not available in the fsm. Perhaps we're on the same page after all: You want to start with clutch pressure gauge, and I say check the direct clutch solenoid. |
Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Osama10(m): 2:59pm On Jul 09, 2016 |
mrsage: You can get it easily @ Mobil Station.

Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by Osama10(m): 3:05pm On Jul 09, 2016 |
Kashif, Where is your bay? Just a little observation, when I cold start & engage the reverse gear it reverses without any hesitation. After then you have to rev up well to reverse. |
