erico2k2: Lastpage has so eloquently said all that need to be said on this subject in a nutshell. With due respect, Erico2k2 appears to be looking at things from a shallow perpective. This was a topic on my dinner table on sunday night. My Austrian born mother-inlaw and my wife felt bitterly betrayed by the English and The Welsh. This same feeling resonates here in Germany and yours truly agree with it. Don't forget the Europeans know themselves and their history from way back. Speaking of the financial sector domiciled in London, you may be informed that the proposed merger of the london stock exchange and the Deutsche Börse in frankfurt is now on shaky ground because of brexit. Will you rather trust your money and investment portfolio in 1 country that is subceptible to political fluctuation or on a conglomerate of 27 nations with well defined and competing interests and built in checks and balances? I think my money is safer at the EZB in frankfurt rather than London with no external supervision and structured checks and balances. The United Kingdon is a net beneficiary of EU largesse. The leave campaign never really believed they will score a mojority vote in that ill fated referandum. It was all a populist political manuovre for the likes of farage and johnson, pray tell, where are they now?. The United kingdom as an entity has always been parasitic. Its European neighbours are well aware of this trait, hence the anger and outrage in Brussel. We European citizens can hardly wait for the UK to Exit the EU. The UK has been a non performing and recalcitrant family member. It has hardly paid its dues in full, refused to join the monetary union ( so it can continue to scam everyone on the fictitious Sterling exchange rates) and refused to acquise to the shengen arrangement ( Visa fees on their mind). There exists no comparative basis between my adopted country and the UK. Germany has a solid and well structured industrial base and its people are honest and hard working. It is not by accident that we have year to year retained the the worlds no 1 exporter of machinenery. Nobody, not even the Japanese makes better Automobiles and machinery in General. This my friends is a money spinner. We are the net bankroller of the European Union and we are not complaining. This cannot be said of the united Kingdon which is largely a service oriented economy. France and Italy are more industrialised in real terms. Upon Brexit, there will be a mass exit of corporate bodies from the UK, something the United kingdon now tries to counter by proposing a reduction in corporates taxation to cushion the negative effects of Brexit on their operations, However, i do not think this strategy will be successful seeing as 27 are far greater that 1. The EU under the polish presidency go show UK pepper. This campaing was also subtly waged on the backs of Polish migrant workers, something that is not lost on the poles. I remember what happened in this country. To finance the second Gulf war in the first 3 months of 1991, Germany was required to pay up about 15–20 % of the costs = 16,9 billion Deutsch marks. We were then taxed what was called a solidarity tax of 5,5 to 7,5 percent on gross income to help finance that effort and in 1995, that direct tax was extended to include the reconstruction effort of the former East German territory and we painfully paid up and are still paying. In 2014 alone, that tax raised 15,5 billion Euros. Germany is an intergral part of NATO, what do you think would've happened if it had the British mentality? As painful as it was, we all paid up like the good and responsible citizens we are, and as i've mentioned are still paying. I was in Dresden in the former East Germany yesterday, I tell you, you will not recognise that former run down, deserted and dilapidated historical city anymore. It has regained and become the once barock and proud city it once was, thanks to the solidarity of the people. Same goes for East Berlin, leipzig etc. The Autobahn network in the former east is simply a sweet sight to behold (You are not a car driver until you've battled the Autobahn in a nice german Automobile ofcourse). The reason I brought this up is the UK. What we did in the East is loyalty and solidarity. This is something the british know nothing about. We held on to Greece and supported them with billions of Euros in soft loans to enable then come back to life again. Same went for Ireland in their days of trial, even spain and Italy. All these countries except perharps greece has fully bounced back again. This is one of the purposes of our union. Running when you think you're doing fine is betrayal and this selfishness is what we know the brits for. For the records, the UK benefited more from the European union than we did from them. Hundreds of millions went into building roads in communities that otherwise gets no attention from downing street. Should we talk about agrar subvention in the UK yearly for example. The disappearance of these funds and a lot more will soon manifest itsself as soon as Brexit completes. Brexit is a desaster and the UK elite are well aware of it. The sterling went to a 30 year low and rebounded. The rebound was the market saying they are not yet sure what the government will make of the vote. Should the UK finally invoke article 51, then watch the pound rapidly head south. That occurence indeed will a blessing to us as it were in the old days. Our UK visits will become way cheaper (British real estate on my mind again), but the desaster they have worked themselves in will be immense. Scotland as has been mentioned will surely call for a second referendum. Only this time, the EU will give her assurances of absorption should its people vote yes and they will. That leaves the ever restive northern Irish no choice but to question their continued existence in an English and welsh dominated UK while their cousins in the south flourish. The mentioned lines of trucks at calais is a crass reminder that the united kingdon, much like Nigeria is a net importer of even the most mundane of everyday article. My English friend and neighbour told me yesterday that should he not also hold the German nationality as it is, he and his family will seek humanitarian assylum should they be required to leave Germany . Hehe, i told him i will personally transport his Load to the border if we were not friends . Brexit is a mistake made out of political miscalculation. That vote was obtained with outright half truths. But now, we the people want this bad, arrogant and scamming neighbour to leave. Dem collect my tax money come yarn say dem no do again, Imagine!. Make dem waka jor!, we no send dem . |

mavverick: Stop acting like a silly kid! The way some of you reason, leaves much to be desired! Once someone is not buying your #wailing, they must be supporting Brabus, right? Its either "our way" or the highway, right By now you should know that it is adults, people with far better 'real life experience" than you, that take a position and stick with it based on their own principle. When you were here crying because of 400K, begging us to put pressure on Brabus ( and l was one of the very vocal who did), you did not write such asinine rubbish...... but after you have collected a lot of the repayment, you have suddenly regained your mojo, abi? Go-on, bite the finger that fed you, you will soon catch fire again. Everyone is FREE to take a position on issues, as long as they are convinced of what they are doing. I dont run with the crowds.... more so, some faceless, immature crowd that flip-flop like UKIP leader. Each man to his own. I dont hide my soft spot for Brabus from anyone and l stand by it, even if a million N/Landers are against him. It is because l still find certain things in him, worthy of my attention though like l have said a million times, he has to be more open, discerning and trustworthy. he did not take my money nor has he done anything bad for/to me personally, so my anger with him cannot be to wish him and his family dead or for me to be crying more than the bereaved..........as some of you want. You that you cant even face Brabus "one-on-One", now has mouth to run at me, abi? Irannu-rederede! Kontinue, you hear. Lastpage! 2 Likes |

erico2k2: I said Calais/Dover was the weakest link to get into the U.K. hiding under Trucks, inside whatever is available. If you notice, most of the people doing this are not Nigerians but mostly of Middle East/Arab origins and some East/North Africans who went through that desert route. If they could enter the U.K through say Belfast, do you think they would be holed out in No man's land? That is what l mean by "weakest link". Lastpage! |

3strikes: You have actually said a lot in your usual coyish manner! As for respect, you dont even know me, you have never met me.... so where is this "fake, some respect" ......coming from? If you want to discuss issues with me (or even if you want to trade insults), l am here Kampe, as baba Iyabo will say. Anyway, na 'some' respect you call am... which does not exist in my own dictionary. Finally, nobody forced any of you to give your projects to Brabus, some where looking for cheap Contractor, some did not want to employ a Consultant, to oversee what their main Contractor was doing (when they themselves cant) because they want to play "Ijebu" with money, some where just "simply stewpid" as we have seen over and over on this thread, creating room for mishaps, e.t.c. If and when l decide to give my projects to Brabus, he wont even know he is working for @Lastage but be assured that l will cross all my t's and dot all my i's ......... and l am sure you've NEVER read anywhere, where l came to Nairaland, to lament over one Contractor! No one is competent enough here, to teach me when or who to give out jobs to; I usually do my own home work. Please, put some "dignity" into your response, if you will. I am who , l a am. mavverick: Upon Brexit, and a yes referandum in scotland, do you see how it will be politically inexpedient for the UK to go on a blockage path?. Scotland voted 66% against brexit, can you ignore that?, or do you think that majority will suddenly fizzle?. We know what the spanish problem is, and you forgot to mention Gibralter. Remember the reason the last referandum voted no was because the UK assured the Scots they will remain in the EU?. That promise has now been broken and the last bastion removed. I personally do not believe that we will see a catalan state anytime soon if ever, but an independent scotland or a negotiated lose association is more feasible upon Brexit. BTW, why are we discussing Brexit etc here, shouldn't we be building houses instead?. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by lastpage: 5:07pm On Jul 12, 2016 |
3strikes: Well, l nor vex! if only people like you will pay attention to what affects them and stop worrying over what other people do for a living, maybe we would have less of all these failed projects and have less 'fence-mending" to do. You know, l dont like Contractors that dont deliver on a job as much as l detest Clients who are inept, foolish and waste their energy on others instead of channelling it into their builds! Its a shame that we could have 3strikes of thunder in the same place yet the owners are not sensible enough to install an Arrestor I wont be asking any Contractor to refund any Client who is silly enough not to engage a consultant to watch over their job, if they are to busy, doing busy-body, to watch over it themselves. I had some respect for you and I think its safe to say its all evaporated. You just open your mouth like a basket without a cover. Lets get some facts right, before people like you open your dirty mouth or bring out your scaly fingers to type. Have I nearly completed my project with or without brabus 400k fake approval, only 200k paid ? Before I asked him for my refund, did my work stop ? Is it 400k out of which he has paid only 200k that it takes to build & finish a house ? Did I ever personally ask you to help get payment, so why are you thinking you deserve so much credit here. Abi you self want to claim elder, elder ko Oloriburuku ni ! I thought you were a logical and sensible human being, but its clear that the sense you have is in comatose, and that is one of the reasons why Nigeria is in current state. Its people like you that is part of the problem, and the reason is in the sentence below. They say in Yoruba, "Nkon ti o maje, Ko je ko gbadun/gbon " What you will eat/gain, isn't making you smart/making you very dull ! Whether you support brabus or not, is either here nor there for me (whats my busines but I am free to express my opinions), when he finishes your burglary, I am sure you can give him your house to finish ONIRANU !. Also bring out your crayons and reply me back, I want it in brown, silver, blue and red.
