Lastpage has so eloquently said all that need to be said on this subject in a nutshell.

With due respect, Erico2k2 appears to be looking at things from a shallow perpective. This was a topic on my dinner table on sunday night. My Austrian born mother-inlaw and my wife felt bitterly betrayed by the English and The Welsh. This same feeling resonates here in Germany and yours truly agree with it. Dont forget the Europeans know themselves and their history from way back.

The United Kingdon is a net benefifiary of EU largesse. The leave campaign never really believed they will score a mojority vote in that ill fated referandum. It was all a populist political manuovre for the likes of farage and johnson, pray tell, where are they now?.

The United kingdom as an entity has always been parasitic. Its European neighbours are well aware of this trait, hence the anger and outrage in Brussel.

We European citizens can hardly wait for the UK to Exit the EU. The UK has been a non performing and recalcitrant family member. It has hardly paid its dues in full, refused to join the monetary union ( so it can continue to scam everyone on the fictitious Sterling exchange rates) and refused to acquise to the shengen arrangement ( Visa fees on their mind).

There exists no comparative basis between my adopted country and the UK. Germany has a solid and well structured industrial base and its people are honest and hard working. It is not by accident that we have year to year retained the the worlds no 1 exporter of machinenery.

Nobody, not even the Japanese makes better Automobiles and machinery in General. This my friends is a money spinner. We are the net bankroller of the European Union and we are not complaining. This cannot be said of the united Kingdon which is largely a service oriented economy. France and Italy are more industrialised in real terms.

Upon Brexit, there will be a mass exit of corporate bodies from the UK, something the United kingdon now tries to counter by proposing a reduction in corporates taxation to cushion the negative effects of Brexit on their operations, However, i do not think this strategy will be successful seeing as 27 are far greater that 1.

The EU under the polish presidency go show UK pepper. This campaing was also subtly waged on the backs of Polish migrant workers, something that is not lost on the poles.

I remember what happened in this country. To finance the second Gulf war in the first 3 months of 1991, Germany was required to pay up about 15–20 % of the costs = 16,9 billion Deutsch marks. We were then taxed what was called a solidarity tax of 5,5 to 7,5 percent on gross income to help finance that effort and in 1995, that direct tax was extended to include the reconstruction effort of the former East German territory and we painfully paid up and are still paying. In 2014 alone, that tax raised 15,5 billion Euros. Germany is an intergral part of NATO, what do you think would've happened if it had the British mentality?

As painful as it was, we all paid up like the good and responsible citizens we are, and as i've mentioned are still paying. I was in Dresden in the former East Germany yesterday, I tell you, you will not recognise that former run down, deserted and dilapidated historical city anymore. It has regained and become the once barock and proud city it once was, thanks to the solidarity of the people. Same goes for East Berlin, leipzig etc.

The Autobahn network in the former east is simply a sweet sight to behold (You are not a car driver until you've battled the Autobahn in a nice german Automobile ofcourse). The reason I brought this up is the UK. What we did in the East is loyalty and solidarity. This is something the british know nothing about. We held on to Greece and supported them with billions of Euros in soft loans to enable then come back to life again. Same went for Ireland in their days of trial, even spain, portugal and Italy. All these countries except perharps greece has fully bounced back again. This is one of the purposes of our union. Running when you think you're doing fine is betrayal and this selfishness is what we know the brits for.

For the records, the UK benefited more from the European union than we did from them. Hundreds of millions went into building roads in communities that otherwise gets no attention from downing street. Should we talk about agrar subvention in the UK yearly for example?. The disappearance of these funds and a lot more will soon manifest itself as soon as Brexit completes.

Brexit is a desaster and the UK elite are well aware of it. The sterling went to a 30 year low and rebounded. The rebound was the market saying they are not yet sure what the government will make of the vote. Should the UK finally invoke article 51, then watch the pound rapidly head south.

That occurence indeed will a blessing to us as it were in the old days. Our UK visits will become way cheaper (British real estate on my mind again), but the desaster they have worked themselves in will be immense.

Scotland as has been mentioned will surely call for a second referendum. Only this time, the EU will give her assurances of absorption should its people vote yes and they will. That leaves the ever restive northern Irish no choice but to question their continued existence in an English and welsh dominated UK while their cousins in the south flourish.

The mentioned lines of trucks at calais is a crass reminder that the united kingdon, much like Nigeria is a net importer of even the most mundane of everyday article.

My English friend and neighbour told me yesterday that should he not also hold the German nationality as it is, he and his family will seek humanitarian assylum should they be required to leave Germany cheesy. Hehe, i told him i will personally transport his Load to the border if we were not friends grin.

Brexit is a mistake made out of political miscalculation. That vote was obtained with outright half truths. But now, we the people want this bad, arrogant and scamming neighbour to leave.

Dem collect my tax money come yarn say dem no do again, Imagine!.

Make dem waka jor!, we no send dem grin grin grin.

This is about the best piece on BREXIT from a European perspective. I relate fully to all you said as a German citizen as well living in the UK also with my British/German/Nigerian family. UK need to learn a thing or two on cooperative existence.

I'm still working on the fence. A few quotes I received included 2 of those 4 materials. Not sure which is best for a fence that I don't plan to plaster because I want it covered in vines.

If you don't plan to plaster and planned to have it covered in vines, you'll be better off using engineered bricks (ie blocks made with stone dust) and get good sharp sand for mortar. Gravel and stone dust mix could also work for the concrete.

So, you can go for a Stone Dust + Gravel mix for the concrete works.

OK. If for fence pillars... better to use sand and granite.

It's a cheaper alternative to granite. We use granite mostly because we can't get good gravel #fact (especially in Lagos).

If you're able to get good round gravels (or washed) which I believe you'll get easily in Ibadan, Oyo and Ogun state, why waste your money on granites.

Below is the pics of gravel+stone dust mix used on my chateau gate/fence pillars. I did machine mix though.

Remember, they're all aggregates.

Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by n3xt(m): 7:52pm On Jul 12, 2016
@ msogunro,

I'm sure you'll be familiar with the aggregate in pic 3. Red Rock. It's very common in Oyo state.

They are all coarse aggregates.

There were test carried out here sometimes ago by Engineer Aventures and some other person that detailed how granite and stone-dust was more stronger. But in a fence pillar, I think stone-dust is overkill, but granite is always stronger than gravels as I was told..
I am not an Engineer, just telling you from what I have heard and read from various Engineers, I may be wrong though.

Some years back while living in North Texas, a raccoon decided to enter my attic to setup shop (garage was mistakenly left open overnight).

So for a couple of days there it will make all sorts of racket up there.

If you walk by a certain section of the garage, she'll growl and hiss. It was actually quite entertaining.

Then I went and purchased a Raccoon cage.

I set the trap up there (folks you do not want to come face to face with a Raccoon while on a ladder grin

Few hours the Raccoon was caught.

I had to wait till the morning to drive out into the monies to release it.

I happened to be restoring a car at the same time in the garage where I kept the 'coon.

Everytime I walked by to grab a tool the Raccoon will rear up, hiss, paw at the cage to get a piece of me grin

(Neighbor said shoot the dam thing already, but nope I'm Mr. Environmentalist).

Hours later when I finished my work on the car I was restoring, the 'coon had tired itself out. It wouldn't even move from a sleeping position any more when I walked by grin

In fact when I went to release it back into nature later in the morning I had to purposefully nudge it out of the cage. It was all spent and worn out. It was hard to imagine that this was the same boisterous animal I had caught in my trap earlier wink

I am EgunMogaji, I know how to trap, domesticate and release wild animals grin

PS: The clean up in the attic required strong chemicals because you know wild undomesticated animals just pee and shyte everywhere cheesy
