So sorry about your experience. An ATM once paid me double. It happened 3 times, I had to call the attention of the bank. It was discovered that the machine was dispensing 1,000 notes as against 500 Naira.

I've not experienced it. But it's possible for an ATM to short pay you (dispense error). The best thing to do is to complain to your bank, though it takes some time before the money is reversed to your acct esp if it was from a different bank's ATM

even when I went to complain they see it as strange for a machine to short pay in withdrawal .

Happened to me at UBA ATM inside Ariaria market in 2012. Withdrew 20k thrice and got 57k total instead of 60k.

I always have this feeling that anything in Aba is all about wayo. Something in me told me to count the money before leaving the ATM, so I did. Went straight inside the bank to lay complain, they never knew I understand Igbo language. One of the CCR was telling her colleague that I was the 9th person that is complaining that day, that she can't really understand why the machine is shorting cash by 1k.

Mehn, they didn't even ask me to fill any form, they pointed one man behind the counter to me that I should go and meet him. Immediately I told the man what happened, he just dipped hand inside his drawer and gave 3k without any filling of form. Since that day, whenever I withdraw from any ATM that's not my bank, I always count the money even till date. I no wan hear story for this kind hard time.

This is called partial dispense error.
You need to complain. The money can be refunded. Might take a while, but it can be resolved.

Please don't keep mute about this, go lay your complaint @ecobank...it could be due to cash jam in the atm, whatever case, your bank owes you the responsibility to investigate and get to the root of what transpired on that particular transaction. It normally takes max of 5working days for this kinda issue to get resolved.

Hello OP, ATMs can either not dispense totally or not dispense fully. They are not uncommon errors. What you need to do is report to Ecobank either through the email or WhatsApp supplied earlier. You cannot directly report to Union since you didn't use their card. You will get the balance before 72 hours at most as Ecobank responds to these cases with dispatch so no fear.

Last week, I was at Enugu for a wedding and wanted to buy something worth of N65,000 from market. I went to use my Ecobank ATM card on Union Bank ATM along Ziks Avenue. I withdrew N20,000 three times i.e. N60,000 and put it in my bag. On getting to the seller, I removed N5,000 from my wallet and added to the money I withdrew from ATM. After counting the money twice in my presence, he said that the money is N62,000. I counted it back myself and it was short of N3,000. I searched my bag again and nothing was left inside

I was sure of the N5,000 from my wallet, and so definitely the shortage was from the ATM. Having withdrawn three times and having a shortage of N3,000, It therefore means that I was paid N19,000 on every N20,000 withdrawn.

I couldn’t go back to the bank for complaint since it was ATM transaction and I have never experienced such.

Hmmmm, even in Kaduna here it happens too.
On 5th July i used a sterling bank ATM machine with my Ecobank ATM card, i withdrew 20k but was debited twice. I thought may be twas network problem so i waited patiently until the sallah break was over. Went to an Ecobank and laid my complain, filled a form. I was not satisfied, went to another Ecobank (bigger than the previous brach i went) laid thesame complain and i was treated the same way as the first branch. They said my money will be reversed in 7 days time and up till now, they refused to reverse it. If i go to the branch it's the same trash i hear every time. I think something is wrong with this ECOBANK
