Last week, I was at Enugu for a wedding and wanted to buy something worth of N65,000 from market. I went to use my Ecobank ATM card on Union Bank ATM along Ziks Avenue. I withdrew N20,000 three times i.e. N60,000 and put it in my bag. On getting to the seller, I removed N5,000 from my wallet and added to the money I withdrew from ATM. After counting the money twice in my presence, he said that the money is N62,000. I counted it back myself and it was short of N3,000. I searched my bag again and nothing was left inside

I was sure of the N5,000 from my wallet, and so definitely the shortage was from the ATM. Having withdrawn three times and having a shortage of N3,000, It therefore means that I was paid N19,000 on every N20,000 withdrawn.

I couldn’t go back to the bank for complaint since it was ATM transaction and I have never experienced such.

Na so I lost N3k for this hardship

It is either the seller used Abracadabra Magic fingers on you, or you weren't just okay after sipping that ORUJEJE from MAMA CHIBUZOR's SHEKPE joint... ATM short paying people It has never happened to me and Never heard of it before, In fact, The trust we have for ATM machines is such that;WHEN YOU TRY TO CONFIRM THE DISPENSED AMOUNT IMMEDIATELY AFTER WITHDRAWAL, PEOPLE WILL BE LIKE :

let me tell u what possibly happened, the fault may not be from the atm but from the people dat loaded it, mistakenly a N500 note may have escaped into N1000 notes and they will not see it(that is, if the notes dispensed comprises of both denominations), another thing is,....u may not understand it if i explain. but has to do with the timing of the atm due to the speed of the main motor., the remaining notes might not be able to meet up with others before dispense.let me tell u what possibly happened, the fault may not be from the atm but from the people dat loaded it, mistakenly a N500 note may have escaped into N1000 notes and they will not see it(that is, if the notes dispensed comprises of both denominations), another thing is,....u may not understand it if i explain. but has to do with the timing of the atm due to the speed of the main motor., the remaining notes might not be able to meet up with others before dispense.let me tell u what possibly happened, the fault may not be from the atm but from the people dat loaded it, mistakenly a N500 note may have escaped into N1000 notes and they will not see it(that is, if the notes dispensed comprises of both denominations), another thing is,....u may not understand it if i explain. but has to do with the timing of the atm due to the speed of the main motor., the remaining notes might not be able to meet up with others before dispense.

Though a bitter experience, it's not new to the banking sector and because there's little or no evidence of such transactions, you can't get your money back. To avoid pitfalls like this, use relatively new or digital ATM machine like the ones that First Bank use for both dispensing and depositing cash.
Though you're not meant to, please count your money before leaving the ATM for confirmation purposes.
Nobody wish to work and then waste his money like that.
So sorry about the your loss... You'll recover it back in another way.
All the best!

Were they all N1,000 denominations? If not, it's possible N500 notes were loaded in N1,000 configured cassetes and the machine rdispense roobottly them as N1,000........most likely

Bros, Go back to the bank and report or send a mail , that's all. The ATM custodian is aware and must have reported the case. if the clamp is bad or a wrong denomination is put in the cassette it would definitely under or over pay you.

My dear, no be formings wan kill me?
Zenith bank Murtala Mohamed Highway calabar is popular for regular availability of freshly minted bills.
So, on this fateful Friday night. I just dressed up with my dudes and for sure with Bae. We dey enter club(bays bar) coming from Big Quo through stadium, I was driving and I sped past Fidelity, Ecobank and Wema whose ATMS I supposed were all working due to the green blinking signal I saw while passing.
To cut a long story short. I withdrew 20k(1000 NGN bills) for the night's Grove and put in my back pocket but lo and behold. When I wanted to offset the bills for my order, omo, I gave the waitress 17 notes to cover for 2 bottles of black @ 8k each and 4 bottles of plastic coke @ 200NGN each and I was about telling the lucky abi unlucky waitress to keep the paltry 200NGN change. Before I could say ''ke... the babe just finished counting and said ''Oga ur money never complete oo. I was like '' confirm it again''. She recounted and said '' I have 15 thousand 200 here'' omo, I no fit shout.
One crook for ZENITH bulk room carefully slotted 2 miserable-looking 100NGN bills into a wad of 1K notes.
You needed to see the spontaneous change of mood. I come dey squeeze out more 1400 from my remaining 3k.
Oh, the waitress?
My dear, I collected my change to the last kobo
The poor babe got nothing.
Hmmm, this Buhari period? Plus vexation?
Bad combo

Happened to me at UBA ATM inside Ariaria market in 2012. Withdrew 20k thrice and got 57k total instead of 60k.

I always have this feeling that anything in Aba is all about wayo. Something in me told me to count the money before leaving the ATM, so I did. Went straight inside the bank to lay complain, they never knew I understand Igbo language. One of the CCR was telling her colleague that I was the 9th person that is complaining that day, that she can't really understand why the machine is shorting cash by 1k.

Mehn, they didn't even ask me to fill any form, they pointed one man behind the counter to me that I should go and meet him. Immediately I told the man what happened, he just dipped hand inside his drawer and gave 3k without any filling of form. Since that day, whenever I withdraw from any ATM that's not my bank, I always count the money even till date. I no wan hear story for this kind hard time.

It happens. I have been a victim was debited 12000 but was paid 6000. Ecobank ATM

Maybe the ATM paid you with #500 notes ?

If that is the case you should have Lodge a complain because it means #500 notes got arranged where #1000 notes are supposed to be arranged. Instead of counting 24pieces of #500 notes the machine counted 12pieces with the assumption that they are #1000 notes.

The ATMs are with different trays for different denominations of currency but should the ATM custodian made any mistake it will Short pay or over pay. But surprisingly, Nigerian ATM don't over pay which means they are more of deliberate acts by the ATM custodians.

Earlier this year, a friend of mine used the stanbic Ibtc ATM in front of value mart, kilo bus stop at surulere, we met people standing and waiting, he got 5k in 500 naira denominations instead of 10k. People that used the atm earlier had experienced the same thing, getting half of what they tried to withdraw. What I believed must have happened was that 500 was loaded instead of 1000. My guy still never get him cash back till date
