Demainman1: I'm sure you can import anything that's not on the prohibited schedule. The problem is, in Nigeria, we love the word cheap. I'm yet to hear that word anywhere as much as I have heared at home. We seem to have problem distinguishing between cheap and value. China have any quality you desire. You only get what you're willing to pay for, and our people usually opt for cheap, thus inferior quality. My pain is, they will mouth praise it to high heavens knowing fully well they're lying. 2 Likes |

Actually interested to know if such raw material exist in Nigeria, if its imported then no value to me, as I personally would not buy such if it was imported. ottersberger: |

msogunro: I mean pre stressed concrete members or beam. The rib beams are pre stressed or pre tensioned members. Pre stressed or pre tensioned beam are produce in the factory under some simple conditions. The principle behind it is using a strands or high steal bars, which are stretched to certain limit within a formwork. This form is then cast to have a beam with high tensioned bar. The major difference between this rib beam and ordinary beam, is in appearance and mode of load transfer. These pre tensioned or pre stress beams look curve or chamber when leaving the factor and built up extra compressive stress at the bottom Fibre with high tensile stress along the top fibre, without the need to carry it's self weight. When the expected imposed load during the service life are imposed, it normalize back to to the neutral axis. A sketch below should help. What is wet curing : wet curing is to immersed a reinforced concrete in container of water after it has set to gain strength over some period of time. This is different from dry curing which involved spraying of water to reinforced concrete to make it gain more strength. Wet curing is possible under control concrete production like in the lab or pre cast factory but not possible for in-situ cast concrete on a major building construction 1 Like |

Prestressed concrete is a method for
overcoming concrete's natural weakness in
tension . It is a material that has the
characteristics of high strength concrete in
compression and high ductile strength steel
for tension. The loss in material strength due
to stressing can be computed and lies at the
stressed concrete shape. The bending shape
should be opposite of the applied force it will
service. It can be used to produce beams ,
floors or bridges with a longer span than is
practical with ordinary reinforced concrete. It
is often used in commercial and residential
construction as a foundation slab.
Prestressing tendons (generally of high tensile
strength steel cable or rods ) are used to
provide a clamping load which produces a
compressive stress that balances the tensile
stress that the concrete compression member
would otherwise experience due to a bending
load. Traditional reinforced concrete is based
on the use of steel reinforcement bars, rebars,
inside poured concrete. Prestressing can be
accomplished in three ways: pre-tensioned
concrete, and bonded or unbonded post- 1 Like |

n3xt: the kind i use is like any regular stabilizer, i dont see the risks you speak of, infact that is the only thing between the mains and my electronics, no stabilizers or TV guard or whatever, and it saved me recently when there was some power surge (My neighbuor lost his TV and i lost my laptop charger which was on 220). As seen below, i have a small power brick with only two flat pin outlets one for the TV one for sound. and it stays that way, year in year out. its not like its something that is plugged and unplugged /moved around the house you're taking about kids and talking about "clearly labelled"..? that's where the proper mismatching is even likelier to happen. A travel voltage converter is still a voltage converter na Other than electronics and maybe a refrigerator or freezer, which are usually pretty much fixed in location, i dont really see much stuff i would go out of my way to get a US version of, so the thought of wiring seperate sockets for 110 and 220 wouldnt be worth it to me. Now away from that, I am a very meticulous and deliberate person.... before i take any serious decisions about what to buy and where to buy, i do alot of research. I'm not the type to just waltz off and order som shyt online jst to earn the right to say "I bought it in America" For those wondering...why the heck would you go through the trouble of shipping an ordinary TV and home theater system all the way from the U.S when there are dealers and representatives of these brands/companies here in Nigeria. Here are a few Big reasons During the course of my small research i found out that even within the US, samsung TVs of the exact same model were carrying different panels.... sometimes from a completely different brand, which is a very serious implication because "The Panel' is "The TV" ...and the differnce in quality was quite substantial. So what i did was search until i made sure i found one that had the Samsung panel read the "top critical review" in the review link in DETAIL to understand. or just google "samsung tv different panels" . This is not only a samsung thing by the way. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN32EH5000-32-Inch-1080p-Model/product-reviews/B0071O4ETQ so if in the US this is the case, you can imagine what obtains here. how many people have bought a TV and wondered what panel was in it. I also found out that there were other technical spec differences...for instance for the Series 5 TV i bought then in 2014, the North American models had a CMR (clear motion rate) of 120, while that for the Africa & South-Asia market had a CMR of 60, ( i believe its been updated to 100 now) and i'm talking about same model number, same size, same appearance same everything. this affects the quality of viewing when the objects on the screen are fast-moving Big brands have different plants in different parts of the world to cater for different markets and i can categorically tell you that what comes out of many of these plants is never identical.... this extends to phones, cars, and the rest. Go to japan and buy any Sony product, then come home here and buy the same model and tell me what you discover. To service Africa, most of these big brands like sony, Samsung, even Schneider outsource their stock and logistics from south asia, that's why you'll notice most of thier representatives are Lebanese, Indians etc. So TV is not TV, even though its coming from the same Brand. We most likely wont notice the differences because you're not comparing side by side. I also bought the TV on sale at the time for about 25% off, and the home theatre for about half the retail price, manufacturer refurbished , came almost brand new with the box. most of the items/accessories still in wraps. Many "manufacturer refurbished goods are not necessarily damaged and repaired goods, most are items that people buy and return for reasons as simple as wanting a bigger or smaller option or not liking the user interface. So all in all i spent less and got an all round better value even after shipping. 3 Likes 1 Share

I think the standard issue main breaker panels that I've seen on here is either D6 or D8, Can someone that's bought one recently share the details with me such as Number of circuits Number of spaces Number of Amps Price Thanks. |

EgunMogaji: Following this topic closely as the considerations are weighing on me too. Be mindful that USA 220 volts are on 60 hertz while Nigeria is 50 hertz. The lower frequency may result in equipment/appliance premature failures. This is why I plan on sourcing, eventually, multi split unit A/C from China instead of buying the 220 volt Pioneer and other brands that are reasonably priced in USA. My food for thought! Thanks for raising this discussion. 1 Like |

Teebawse:Ask for the name of the company he intends to buy from. Get the numbers of some good companies here, call and negotiate prices with them, tell your roofer to go give them his cutting sheet/list. They would be glad to get it moved to your site but also factor in the cost of transportation. 1 Like |

In only the 21 years in jail threat will stop omo onile from grabbing and reselling land in Lagos. Their new method is to sell your land that's on main road and give u another one that's miles away from the road. Take them to court, you waste your time and money. |

I have reservations on its success even in Lagos, so no shaking for now for those outside Lagos. Also most of the ones in Lagos are just chancers, a lot of them are non-indigenous that some indigenous thugs have drawn a map for and given them the licence to operate. Even the locals self, thier antics are not official, its just for the sake of peace. EgunMogaji: 2 Likes |

Smoke igbo Drink Marry wife The funny thing is that the ones in my zone, when I finally met them I said to myself, are these the people causing me headache all these while, and that my engineer once upon a time so feared/revered, now we speak on a level, I command a lot of respect from them as they know/I have proven that "a quiet person can show them pepper as well". My only regret was not meeting them earlier, 80% of the problems I had with them would have gone away if I did, as I only now deal with thier Oga + Baale . EgunMogaji: 1 Like |
