With a population of over 180 million... Nigeria should have at least 3 mega cities. It's a shame Only Lagos looks anything close to city, let alone mega. But even so,the size of Lagos state is only 2000Km² while other cities in the world are way larger . in order for Lagos state to expand and become a true megalopolis , nearby states like Ogun,Osun, parts of Oyo must merge as part of Lagos City.
Let's compare the size of a few Nigerian states to the size of some American and Canadian cities . California is over half of Nigeria. Texas is almost same size as Nigeria. California is just a little bit larger than Japan.

Lagos State - 3,500 Km² (population :20 million)
Akwa State - 7,000 Km² (5 million)
Kaduna State - 46,053 Km²( 7 million)
Anambra state -4,844 Km² (5 million)

Atlanta Metropolis - 21,694 Km² (population : 6 million)
Los Angeles Metropolis - 87,490 Km²( Population :18 million)
Toronto
Metropolis - 9,000 Km² (population: 6 Million )
Seattle Metropolis - 15,209.3Km² (population: 5 million)

This means Atlanta is 6 times larger than Lagos state or the same size as (Lagos state + Ogun +Ondo+Osun state ) .
Los Angeles is almost twice larger than Kaduna state
Toronto is one and half times larger than Akwa ibom .
Seattle is over 3 times larger than Anambra or the same size as (enugu+imo +Anambra)

Those cities you mentioned are the equivalence of Warri,Port Harcourt, Enugu, Calabar,Onitsha, Ibadan, Kaduna and Kano
You probably never even noticed that all the American cities you mentioned were NOT the nation's capital or former capital. Yet they developed those places because they were part of America and should be as great as the national capital.

In Nigeria, the plot is to use the national resources derived from other areas to develop Lagos and Abuja, while other parts of the country are left desolate.

How do you imagine such a country that operates like Nigeria will ever have enough peace to attract businesses to grow into the type of cities you pointed out? Nigeria will Never look like those places because we are operating on a cheating mindset.

Alaska is a city in USA and USA has been free from British colonial since 17oo compared to Lagos whose country gained independence recently.so then how do you expect Lagos to be better by the way you don't compare a developed country with a developing one

Lol I think Enugu state is trying in terms of serene environment

when I newly visited there I was amazed I must say jtd more beautiful than abuja and Lagos and pH and others to me oooo!

and a city doesn't necessarily have to be filled with skyscraper its meant to have a standard infrastructure @op

I think Lagos is developing real quick bcux back then in 2005 Lagos was a total slum buhh take a look at it noe its the apple of Africa

so I think states shouldn't depend solely for FG to develop their state

they shud the the developing then FG do the ones they can do!

I haven't been there ,but judging from the pics . and videos ,80 percent of lagos is slum. Even the areas that are suppose to be highbrow are below average ...

u are really smart I've toured round Lagos and I'll tell u its only the island that make brain and that may just constitute 10% of Lagos which means 90% are slums

I still retain that Enugu is way more beautiful than Lagos any body should comman dispute that with me

I created this thread for a reason. I want Nigerians to see a bigger picture . No need for 36 states in a small country like Nigeria. As you can see,Lagos state,Ogun state ,Ondo state and Osun state can be one world class mega city . Imo state ,Enugu state ,abia state, ebonyi and anamnra state can be one mega city. Akwa ibom and calabar can be one city.
Ah, but according to the last CONfab under GEJ, the people want 18 more states for "equity sake".
