OBAGADAFFI: LTE band 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800) - EMEA LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 28(700) - Asia LTE band 4(1700/2100), 17(700) - T-Mobile LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 17(700) - AT&T LTE band 40(2300) - India I believe you are deliberately being mischievous, but I'll indulge you anyway. The above lte specifications are from gsmarena. It clearly shows that there are at least 5 variants of Htc one m8, made for different markets and networks. So I'll advice to find out which of the variants you own. 1 Like |

ican2020:Given the above specification, it should work. The easiest way to change your network mode to 'LTE Only' is to go to your dial pad and dial *#*#4636#*#*, then enter Phone information, scroll down and select LTE only. |

dustmalik: What do you mean by deliberately being mischievous. You probably dont know the difference between band and variant . Phones and CPEs can support multiple bands, irrespective of the variant. LTE bands are allocated to ITU REGION Networks on LTE-bands 1, 3, 7, 28 (FDD-LTE) or 38, 40 (TDD-LTE) are suitable for future global roaming in ITU Regions 1, 2 and 3. Networks on LTE-band 8 (FDD-LTE) may allow global roaming in the future (ITU Regions 1, 2 and 3) (Long-term perspective). Networks on LTE-band 20 (FDD-LTE) are suitable for roaming in ITU Region 1 (EMEA) only. Networks on LTE-bands 2 and 4 (FDD-LTE) are suitable for roaming in ITU Region 2 (Americas) only. http://www.spectrummonitoring.com/frequencies/frequencies1.html#Nigeria Just make you point clear without name calling. 1 Like |

@ obagadaffi and @ dustmalik, you guys should please chill, we're all here to learn and improve ourselves. Truth be told i've learnt more from both ur arguments than I thought was possible, but I think we should just chill. U both have valid points and truth, but truth be told u guys are saying the same thing just a differential in words and nomenclature. So please let's sheath our swords and shake hands, we're all brother in this course NTEL no fit cheat us on top this matter. And from experience most service providers will also tell you that ur device is not compatible in order for you to get their devices; which most times are bloody expensive for example the Tecno Camon C5 , the market is less than 40k, Ntel sells for 50k, the wireless router they sell at 36k is about 26k at most outside. Bad marketing strategy if you ask me but that's why we need pple like dustmalik and obagadaffi to show us how to use what we have to achieve our goals. So please let's share the love as well as the knowledge. One love brothers, cheers 1 Like |

alt3r3g0: Thank you, See arguments FDD TDD VoLTE, LTE+ Band, variant.. The baseline is the modem has Band 3 (1800MHz), That mean either 3 or 8 or even Both will work.. Some confirmed M5 with Band 3 works.. On checking all most all phone I have seen with 4G has Band 3 (1800MHz).. only the new models are coming with 8 (900MHz).... |

saint2ace: Abi oo, I wont be suprise if tecno C5 Band is 1 3 and 7 no band 8 This is most common LTE band (FDD LTE:B3:1800/B1:2100/B7:2600MHz) Edited..See below for the Band on C5,

saint2ace: Thanks my Oga, NTEL just is converting Nigerians to TECHIES in other to enjoy their service What is this *#*#4636#*#* nonsense they talking about, why is SMILE not giving us the same headaches on VoLTE service. The same mistake VISAFONE made when they entered the market with 800Mhz claiming some device won't work, until we start using QXDM and QPST to reconfigure our STARCOMMS, MULTILINKS phones to work with their networks. We will be getting ETISALAT,GLO and MTN with better coverage on 4GLTE before the end of the year. NTEL better wake up because the market in not smiling. Cheers . |
Re: Subscriber Options for UNLIMITED Internet - WORTH IT? by dustmalik(m): 3:39pm On Jul 25, 2016 |
OBAGADAFFI:I have tried to educate you on this issue, but you just won't take correction. I'll make it clearer. OEMs make the same model of phones for different markets, also known as variants, and they specifically make special variants for each of the largest American telcos because they are the largest consumers. Now, these variants look the same on the outside, but might defer in terms of SoCs, and they usually support different lte bands depending on the market or network they are meant for. I hope I've made it more understandable to you. |
Re: Subscriber Options for UNLIMITED Internet - WORTH IT? by OBAGADAFFI: 4:09pm On Jul 25, 2016 |
dustmalik: You just love to argue. Do you know most of these variants works well outside their market and regions, due to similarity in frequencies and bands. The reason most UK/US phones sells more in Nigeria, is because they work with our frequencies. Even in the same US you can use AT&T variants phones on Verizon network, after unlocking. What matter most in phones are frequencies they support, irrespective of the variants. Cheers |

The bootom line is that 4g network in Nigeria is still very much a pipe dream |
Re: Subscriber Options for UNLIMITED Internet - WORTH IT? by dustmalik(m): 4:49pm On Jul 25, 2016 |
OBAGADAFFI:I never said phones meant for other markets wouldn't work in Nigeria or elsewhere. There is a good reason why 99.9% of phones, no matter where bought, work on our 2g and 3g network, because our telcos use the most popular 2g/3g frequencies. For instance, our telcos use 2100mhz/3G frequency, which is world's most popular frequency, and present in virtually all phones worldwide. What I'm saying is that, 4G lte bands/frequencies are the most scattered across devices and telcos. No network in the world supports all lte bands/frequencies and you can't find a phone or device that supports all fdd and tdd lte bands. Now, you talked about the US. When OEMs, such as Samsung make a phone for telcos in the US, they usually restrict lte bands to each network in order not to be able to use them vice versa on those networks, hence different variants. I brought up the issue of variants because it's very possible that the variant of htc m8 you've doesn't have lte band 3 or band 8 support. By the way, restrictions of lte bands on a device has nothing to do with network locks. I've tried my best, and i won't argue any further. |
Re: Subscriber Options for UNLIMITED Internet - WORTH IT? by dustmalik(m): 5:09pm On Jul 25, 2016 |
MaryWest:Do not be misled by our argument. These are facts you need to know about lte. 1. No telco in the world supports all lte bands. 2. Most telcos support just one. 3. ntel supports two, which are band 3 and 8, and band 3 is the world's most popular lte band, present in most devices meant for EMEA countries and other regions. 4. MTN plans on supporting only band 20, for starters, and band 20 isn't that popular compared to band 3. 5. All 4G lte chinco devices that are popular in Nigeria, including Infinix, Tecno, doogee and others support lte band 3. Bigger OEMs, such as Samsung, LG, Sony tend to make variants for different markets and specific variants for US telcos. You just need to buy the variant that support the lte bands your telco uses. |
Re: Subscriber Options for UNLIMITED Internet - WORTH IT? by Udezer69(m): 10:54pm On Jul 25, 2016 |
dustmalik: I'm getting tired of people calling our phones chinko devices.... We all know what chinko is and it's not Android... Chinko phones are copies of original devices... Like chinko IPhone... chinko Nokia... Etc...they are copies... The only phone I've seen that is chinko and android and not a copy is the Elephone.. I think I got its spelling right.... That phone even copies the layout of iPhone and the software is a basic Android design..... So you guys should get your facts right... And as for the LTE issue... Why is it becoming an argument? Just get your Ntel sim card...find an LTE device that will work with it.. No stress no drama.... Band 900 or 1800 or whatever... Just chill |
