In my opinion i think the farmers are self centered. Remember these herdsmen are Nigerians and they have the right to live and do their businesses any where in Nigeria. What's the big deal in allocating some portion of their farms for cattle grazing? If they were also rearing cattles, won't they graze them? The herdsmen are majorly the source of beef in the country and since everyone patronizes their meat, why can't we support the grazing bill so they can stop moving their cattles in the cities and instead have grazing fields? If every state creates grazing reserves don't you think it will limit clashes between farmers and herdsmen? I know there are bad eggs amongst the herdsmen but we can't throw away the baby and bath water. There has to be a compromise for the sake of peace.

The farmers should be ready to pay for their protection since they are doing their private business. They are not expected to buy guns to protect themselves. The government will provide security if they are ready to pay. The fulanis are not violent people, let's stop the stigmatization of herdsmen sad

Very well written and articulated. My main concern though with the self-funded protection is who the security contractors will be. What good is a government that can't guarantee the safety of its citizens.

Stupid logic. Why not cultivate hitherto uncultivated land? Why destroy an existing project when there is excess land for a new one?

Farmers should react. Neglect one farming season show this set of old people what their brains seems to have skipped. People who are as primitive as their ideas.
So cattle rearing is more important than crop production. GEJ we miss you die. TINUBU see what you have called us.

Re: Farmers To Pay Fee For Protection – Ogbeh by gabe: 11:51am On Jul 22, 2016
That man needs to remove his nose from whatever he is sniffing. Some farmers already pay tax on their produce and land. Even if they pay 1million for protection,is it the police that cant even secure Abuja that will patrol farmlands? Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Allow farmers buy guns to protect themselves or seize every single AK used by herdsmen...

This the most useless write up I have read this year. Farmers are citizens of this country and by right are entitled to the protection of the government. Why should they pay extra for security thereby subsidising a major function of any government. What happened to government providing an enabling environment for business knowing fully well that agriculture should be encouraged by all means. Imagine developed countries asking citizens to pay extra for protection when they pay their taxes while government officials enjoy maximum protection Something must be wrong somewhere. What kind of government is this. They should be ashamed of themselves. You say we patronise the meat from this Herdsmen so farmers should share their land with them will they also share their meat You are a comedian.
