Just a hunch....... you're from the SE, smallest landlocked region in Nigeria. 50% erosion, 50% dust. Not economically viable. No seaport. Not agriculturally viable, else you wouldn't have lied about hawking ugwu. The most neglected region in the South. The region that offers nothing to Nigeria, but claims "SS/SE" oil - even though SE produces 3% oil, while SS produces more than 60% of Nigeria's oil. ..Back to the topic,@op the size of Lagos compared to the economic viability it enjoys just goes to buttress the fact that human resources and not landmass alone is key to how wealthy or poor a nation will be...e.g compare the GDP of Western Europe and Africa bearing in mind their landmass as well.

Most ahithophels aka Yorubbas actually think Lagos is big especially when they bring SE in the equation. Not knowing that the smallest state in SE...Anambra is 3x of Lagos in actual landmass considering half of Lagos is water. If Lagos houses nearly 30 million today at only 20% usage of its actual landmass, Anambra will house over 200 million at 20% usage of its landmass with existing high-rise building plan. It's currently only at 10% usage!

Quick facts for the Ahithophels

Israel is only the size of Cross river at roughly 20,770 km² yet powerful and successful.
Luxembourg is only 2,590 km² which half of Anambra yet successful.

The guy below is an illiterate...doesn't know the difference between a nominal landmass and actual landmass. Lagos Nominal landmass is 3345km2 but Actual landmass excluding water is 1670km2. HALF OF LAGOS STATE IS WATER. ONLY 1/8 OF ANAMBRA IS WATER!

omg....u anambra people are sooooo insecure!!!'how did dis ur stupid discussion enter his thread. must u always drag nonsense??'if Lagos is water, is Anambra not the most erosion-laden state in Nigeria. I dey shame for u, u lack sense!! And yes I'm proudly igbo!!

Switzerland is just roughly as big as Abia and Enugu States but has a GDP of $650 Billion

As Big as Nigeria is, it has a GDP of just $500 Billion.

Switzerland is far richer and more productive than Nigeria even though Switzerland has just a population of 8 million people.

The lesson here is that nobody cares about your landmass and population, it is all about what you have to offer.

Your comments does not make any sense.

You do not divide federating districts by land mass. The vast majority of the North is occupied by nothing else but empty space, land mass, etc.

Try looking up the GDP of the Northern States vs that of the Southern States.

This is how states are divided up in most other countries....e.g. Alaska in the US is more than 12x bigger than New York State and more than more than 80x bigger than New Jersey State....but New York States GDP is more than 11x bigger than that of Alaska's and New Jersey's is more than 4x bigger than that of Alaska.

Giving more states to the North, means diverting more Nationally Resources to them compare to Southern States that puts more money into the federal government coffers and that have more population centers.

Africans with their mentality. Sane countries were busy improving on their human resources and capacity building, these ones here are busy talking about empty landmass in this 21st century. RUSSIA with the largest landmass in the world can't be compared with the United States in all ramifications. SAUDI ARABIA with the largest landmass in the Middle East cannot defeat ISRAEL in any field of endeavor.

As small as Ghana, Djibouti, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, Nigeria is not better than them in all ramifications be it power supply, health system, good infrastructures, GDP growth, etc.

Nigeria should focus on improving the standard of living of its citizens, capacity building and infrastructural development. Lastly, you are not invited or a member of the world's most developed ECONOMY (G8) because of your 'landmass' rather based on your TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENT, HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX, GDP GROWTH, EXCELLENT HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

As you compare the two smallest states Lagos and Anambra with citing that half of Lagos is water, you note that not every square inch of Anambra is habitable as there are areas dealing with the erosion menace likewise communities that are flood plains.

Take Nkwoaku in Achalla town for example, that area is thousands of hectares but a flood plain as it gets to some months during the course of the year the water level become neck-deep and from October it begins to recede and becomes dry from late November till about April. This is borne from personal experience there as l was involved in some Agric projects there for 2 years.

Size is not the issue but the output. Lagos which is the smallest State is still almost 5 times the size of Singapore which is a first world economy!

See the North with about 80% of the Country's landmass but their ignorance convinces them that they must destroy farms in the South in order to feed their cows. When knowledge is not linked to natural resources it becomes worthless.

Very well then.

The GDP of Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra combined is same with Kano which is still larger by land mass, how do you reconcile that. The SE doesn't have the commensurate GDP and land mass to request for more state.

If Abia's GDP is not anything close to twice the GDP of Borno that is several times the size of Abia, why should it be asking for more states?. Even the GDP and population of Bokoharam infested Borno is higher than that of two SE states.

The whole of Nigeria is not as big as Alaska, a single state in the USA. South Africa is bigger than Nigeria by land mass but has just 9 province, a technical term for state there.
The present 36 states are already too lazy and a burden to the centre and you're requesting more states.

Why create more states that can't cater for themselves? SE states don't have the size or GDP or population to pursue more states, thats just the truth.
