we ie Nigeria don't have to re invent the wheel.I think we just need to partner with companies like norinco, poly to produce spare parts and munition in Nigeria. For example our 105mm howitzers we can partner with Italy,Israel or China to make ammunitions for them, and for our hmgs/aamg import machines from China or Russia to manufacture .51 caliber machine gun rounds.

the pressure created by the first IED detonated ,would trigger any other device beneath it

a poor clone of a IED designed to launch an explosively formed effector , main target military vehicles.

my guess here the shape and material of the plate used (looks steel to me) indicates that the idea is to ensure that the blast is focused upwards like a shape charge rather than launch a explosively formed effector.

primary IEDS, secondary IEDS, tertiary IEDS can be linked together and each can be operated at any moment of opportunity in any desired sequence.the IEDS will be in proximity to each other.
secondary IEDS and tertiary IEDS can be buried at greater depths or made using materials that evade detectors and can be detonated by different means .
it is also possible to isolate secondary IED and tertiary IED from primary IED blast by making certain changes to the containers.

posting such pictures of soldiers standing near recently cleared ied sites might give ideas to militant groups who might exploit it later.

Some thoughts:

1. Do you really have to wear the blue helmet is you are wearing the blue BPV? I understand the importance of ensuring that you are easily identified as a UN P.K., but at the same time, in a high risk offensive context like in North Kivu... wouldent it be better only to wear the blue BPV, or, even better, some sort of blue arm-band like some nations MP's do (pic)

2. Uniform standards are slipping - SANDF needs to look into developing a blouse for tropical climates, or ensure the proper roll-out of short sleeved blouses. Guys running about in their PT shirts does not convey the proper image of professionalism. Also... missing helmet covers... this triggers me so so very hard [Yeah, I know that this is all aesthetics and largely irrelevant]

Also... great to see the Yankee Threes mounted on the Nyalas shocked shocked

Finally, what is the name of the bullet sheild we see on some of the gun mounts of the Nyala, its the same as the ones we see on the Hornet, very unique and I cant find its name.

1) Depends on the bolshiness or otherwise of the SM re regulations.

2) It's one of the arguments against 1-year deployments: bad habits start creeping in.

3) An anecdote re the Y3: during FIB 1 the guys humped 8 hours through the jungle and hills, with a company of FARDC carrying all the heavy weapons. Bitching and moaning all the way. When they engaged the Mai-Mai rebels and the Y3s started wreaking havoc, the smiles on their faces!

4) Haven't a clue the name of the shield.

Nigerian army Squad units use a similar type Drone in combat.

Finally, i can see that. Thanks for posting Frum, if you hadn't posted, we probably won't know that. Please are there any more SA commando(Recce) photos with the new R5( polymer, foregrip, torch), tricked out R5, please do post.

Your Casspirs and Nyala need to be replaced, they are looking quite old. Is the SA Army considering the Casspir2000, or are they already in service?

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting.

The Army has 2 projects under way - one for the replacement of the MRAP's the other for the replacement of the SAMILS. I think its proj Vistula and Proj Saucepan (??). Both seem to have been stalled by the defence reveiw... money seems to be going towards re-orientating the Army rather than equipping it.

But at the same time, Denel did just "break the bank" to re-aquire BAE Land-Systems (RG series), I suspect it is in preperation for that in the long run... we have over 800 MRAPS to replace and that will be a big job.

However, I suspect that in the next 6-12 months the Reserves are going to be heavily restructured and re-organized. 10 000 were deployed this year, and it sounds like Yam wants to increase that numbers as well as how long they are deployed for... that will be expensive.

Casspir 2000 is the same vehicle as the ones we use, just with a different suspension (i think 3X3) and engine (ural). It wouldnt justify the expense except for specialist vehicles that may need a 3X3 format due to weight - like recovery vehicles.

6 month deployments just too difficult to pull off?
