Some weeks ago, there was a post here stating that facebook now charges Nigerian advertisers in Naira. Due to the excitement generated by this news, I proceeded to change my billing currency on facebook from USD to NAIRA. And my account had to be reset!

I started seeing my adverts served in Naira and it was easy for me to estimate how much I was spending on ads. After spending a certain amount in NAIRA, I decided to offset part of the amount I owe facebook, only to discover that I could no longer make payments with the same first bank Naira Master Card which I was using to pay for my ads when my account was in USD.

It's about a week now and I have been unable to make payments for my facebook adverts. All my ads have been rendered inactive because facebook says I owe them.

Please does anyone know how I can go about restoring things back to normal?

I have tried changing the account billing to USD, but I can't still pay in dollars. It keeps saying The Card was Declined.

Hello, I have the same problem too with my Facebook advert manager account.
What I did was I visited my bank to complain about this same issue. Their suggestion was not helpful. They said the reason why the payment was not going through was because the card has been programmed in such a way that when initiating an international transaction it is charged in dollar and Naira can't be converted to Naira. which means I have to change my billing currency to Dollar but I can't even edit my currency. . Please let us raise an awareness our banks are too hard on us.

You can't change your account back to USD. Infact, before anything else can be done on the ad manager account, facebook will always require the outstanding debt to be paid first.

I had to find a way round it, because it was seriously affecting my business.

This could potentially make facebook loose some good revenue from Nigerians because a lot of people will change their billing currency to naira, not knowing the limitation that awaits them.

I just saw this, so let me quickly tell you what I knw which has been working.

1) Basically, switching currencies means ur ads will be reset and you'll start afresh, so don't be surprised when that happens.

2) You can not switch until you balance your initial payment, which means if you owe in dollars, you have to clear ur bill first before switching to Naira...and vice versa. So u can't go back to paying in dollars until u clear out ur outstanding Naira payment.

3) To the bone of contention... To pay in Naira, you need a Stanbic IBTC account and their Master Card. They'll debit you the Naira you owe directly from your account.
It's not FB's fault that they can't debit ur first bank card, all those banks intentionally blocked that option out because the preferred people paying in dollars so that they can set the exchange rate and make inordinate gains.

Only Stanbic and UBA debits in Naira now directly as at now ( can't say what will happen tomorrow).
But Stanbic in better than UBA because UBA still removes some extra charges after debiting the real money, something Stanbic doesn't do.

I don't work for Stanbic, I only use their services because their exchange rate is one of the lowest in the country now...from what I know.

Terrible. I couldn't do same yesterday. My own problem is that my account for ads was flagged. I have appealed though and I hope to get it back because the paypal used for that account couldn't be used again.

It's always a huge problem whenever ur FB account is flagged. Facebook dosnt have a good customer support team like Google.
It may take upto 2 weeks before they even answer you, and they may not even lift the suspension.

Facebook dosnt really like it when you use PayPal, they prefer credit cards. But then what's your offence? Is your ad against their policy or what.

I pray u get it resolved and ur account reactivated else, that may be the end of u ever advertising on FB.
You should knw u can't open a new account, open 10 accounts and they'll knw it's you and still flag it.

WOW! thanks for this info. In that case I better head over to Stanbic bank to get their card. I had to look for an alternative by adding someone else as an admin to my page and using their ad Manager account to pay for my ad in dollars.

Why exactly was your account flagged? Because I also added paypal as a payment option but I have not made use of it yet. I think I need to be cautious here, since paypal is involved.

Ok. so it has to do with the approval of your ads. Good to know it was not as a result of your paypal payment option.

nope... it was second ads that I had wanted to create that had this problem, even after using almost same content from the first one.

@op i have been using stanbic for payment of my facebook ads and they normally debit the remaing balance of the dollar rate since facebook dollar xchange rate is $1/199.50.

recently, my facebook ads failed on stanbic and firstbank card i later found out is an issue of DCC.i stumbled on this thread when i was looking for solution.also upon seeing ur complain and other complains as well, i complain to facebook that other advertisers in my country are experiencing this issue as a result this.

i was equally exchanging mail with facebook as well to proffer solution.according to them they received "CC delined" as error message while trying to charge all the cards added.

i found solution on gurubest.com which is to pay using dollar mastercard obtainable in any bank. as i do not have 2 referee to open a dorm acct, i narrowed my search to banks that offer prepaid USD card, i found only 2 but none has the card at the moment. they complained of low patronage .

I kept on pleading with facebook to give me an alternative or accept my suggestion to pay up my outstanding payment.at a point they told me that they dont have solution for me. I breakdown but not completely,to me losing an acct with over 20k likes is unbearable when considering my efforts.

Lo and behold, my joy knew no bound when in the process of trying to obtain USD card, i received an email from facebook that my acct has been reinstated and considering the amount spent so far that my sins have been forgiving lols meaning, i will not pay a dime and i should change my currency to USD.if this happen again, their favour will not be repeated. now i am running a USD acct.

update: I created a another facebook account and added my GTB card which was accepted.

I recommend Stanbic any day anytime. GTB is also good, I just fear their exchange rate. But make sure ur card's MasterCard. That'll give you less headache.

Apologies but I really don't get your post. Were you trying to add a payment and was declined or trying to switch from Naira to Dollars.

Stanbic has always worked in both cases. But if you are only trying to add a new payment option and Stanbic was rejected, then you might want to try GTB.

You can only use GTB for Dollar payment tho, but their exchange rate is something else...another reason I dropped them.

But no harm in trying.

Hey don't worry it will be reactivated if you provide a valid ID bearing your your real name and date of birth as you use it on the Facebook account. I had similar experience and i open another account with my same real name and DOB so when i was ask to submit my ID for verification I quickly submit it and with 3hours it was opened for

Quite easy and not different from the way you added others. If it's a corporate account then no way of using it but if a personal one, you're good to go adding the digits at the front end of the card and that's all

OP its not easy solving it earlier but there is solution now

Many people argued that the Naira account stuff is not working off which they are not far from the truth but am here to tell you that its not true. How did I know? Because have been using the Naira dominated account for months now, paid and readvertise on it several times. As a matter of fact am oweing Facebook around N11,000 which will be paid within few days now so I can resume my ads again.

Hello bro. Please help with how you got your flagged account reactivated. I had my facebook advert account deactivated today for no particular reason. Please help.

I successfully boostes a post but after 24hrs it was stopped because I couldn't get billed, when i got to Diamond bank they told i cant pay through them. I tried stanbic Ibtc card it was declined. Can someone who has used other bank's card pls help

Use gtbank master card, but u will change the currency of payment to usd. It works that way.

Very effective. That is wat I have been using for my page and my higest budget has been $2. The sales order I do get pass the item I have. Make sure u have enough item u want to sell sha. And your targetting is very important too.
