Restructuring Will Spell Doom For Nigeria - Wakili by MasterofNL: 12:23pm On Aug 09, 2016 |
Senator Ali Wakili, who represents Bauchi South in the Senate, has questioned the renewed call for restructuring of Nigeria by some prominent Nigerians notably former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. In an interview with Daily Sun in Bauchi, Wakili, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation, warned that any attempt to restructure the country would spell doom for its future. Rather than restructuring, he said the country’s leadership should be more engrossed in improving the worsening conditions of living of the citizens. http://sunnewsonline.com/restructuring-will-spell-doom-for-nigeria-senator-wakili/

A restructured Nigerian federalism will strengthen the Nation's economic base by diversifying it into the production of those resources that each state is endowed with and each state contributing to the centre and sharing according to their contribution. Not the other way round of waiting to share from the mono-economic product(oil) at the end of every month as is currently the case. Punch. It should be restructured op, we are not going back to the era of sokoto caliphate, or yoruba nation. You can't call us 5% then drill our resources, to develop less resourceful areas. 68 Likes 2 Shares |

why is it that only the northerners are against restructuring nigeria? even Tinubus had at a time clamored for it. we can understand their silence on that for now. but the northerners are vehemently against it. what're their fears? 5 Likes 1 Share |

We say no to restructuring. We have billions of barrels of oil in the Niger delta to explore so one Nigeria we shall remain till the oil is finished. Then we can allow biafra to go |

Nigeria as it is today is not working. Nigeria is an entity the people don't believe in. Everybody at the centre is grabbing as much as he/she could for his own ethnic group. We are more ethnic than we are Nigerians. We are more Igbo, more Yoruba and more Hausa than we are Nigeria. So that's why the Nigeria-concept is theoretical. That's why many are cutting and swallowing the national cake like 'tomorrow no dey' So I believe in restructuring. I believe in resource control. It is only then we can define the meaning of our unity and why we should come together and what our respective contribution for that unity will be. Let's not deceive ourselves, Nigeria is only a theoretical concept, it does not exist in reality. It has no common culture. But we have Igbo culture, Yoruba culture and Hausa culture. What is the Nigerian culture when the Igbo man does not believe the Hausa man in office will protect his interest and vice versa- which unfortunately plays out in reality. So it is better we restructure. So that we can really leverage the actual meaning of unity in diversity when each component controls it's resources and formats it's destiny. 16 Likes |

With people like this man making decisions on who Nigeria is ruled, the future is indeed bleak. I wonder how he hopes to tackle the more important issue of poverty and hunger with out working on the remote cause of the problem. A senator indeed. 1 Like |

Even if they restructure sef.. Some places won't still develop Those that enjoy shielding corruption for whatever reasons I still dnt knw.. It will only make their politicians more powerful with the ability to loot funds unchecked (days of slave trading comes to mind) Even the gifted ones who should be fighting for it are calm, hoping things workout. But let's wait and see. Whichever works fine in my own opinion 1 Like |

Nigeria is not restructuring. It is wasteful, anarchic and will destabilise the whole of Africa. It will make radical Islam very powerful and they will deep their Koran in the Atlantic. It is selfish politicians and tribalistic and unexposed youths who are fanning the flames of restructuring for nothing. Everything that is currently wrong with Nigeria can be corrected by suing the FG to the Supreme Court for judicial interpretation - from quota system to JAMB cut-off, to states power. Other things can be corrected by Constitutional Amendments arising from motions and Bill's in the National Assembly 1 Like |
