From experience, since he said submersible. Must be a borehole. If na well, all you need is for a pipe to go down the well and you just need surface pumping machine to draw the water. NL1960: 1 Like |

Maybe one day Bosun can come and learn. 85 decking slabs under your belt, no complaints whatsoever. I am sure we can all take something away from that. spyder880, this last decking I do not see any plumbing pipes shooting out. Is there any reason for that ? the concrete biscuits, is it something that is charged for separately ? [/quote Oga spyder am looking forward to your kind response to maverick questions. Please is anyone familiar with road construction here? I've seen concrete roads and asphalt roads..but in the estate here...they did a concrete (with y6 mat)...now they are putting prime coat, the foreman is saying they will put geotextile next (asphaltic Reinforcement)... Then we pave with asphalt finally.. Kindly Enlighten. |

podosci: Hmm! I think Hajji is only disappointed that the people they left back home only ended up increasing the population without corresponding infrastructural development. Before Hajji left, there's pipe borne water in most part of the cities except for the rural areas. But now, 89% of the country do not have access to good water. Hajji is still in shock that Cocoa House built in 1965 still remain one of the tallest building in Nigeria after 5 decades. He's surprised that the last Dam Built in Nigeria was built in the 80s. The situation is very sad and pathetic because he cannot get water from your place in Suleja. |

podosci: Things are bad, extremely bad. Before I left Ibadan in 1986 there was hardly any area in the city with no running water. Even the poor barios had community water stations. Same in most cities in Nigeria of that era. It simply isn't just bad, it's that it went from very good to very bad. 1 Like |

NLresidentQS: Concrete roads are form of rigid pavement different from flexible pavement (asphalt roads). These pavement are more expensive to construct but maintenance is cheaper in the long run. The asphaltic concrete is replaced with a reinforced concrete but some of the disadvantages of this type of foundation includes the following. 1. Involve large sum to construct initially. 2. Can't be constructed in stages or use during construction, hence it required the route blocked throughout the construction phase. Advantages 1. Little maintenance 2. Last longer and require no maintenance cost over a long period of time. 2 Likes 1 Share |

EgunMogaji: I always argue this with my father, Nigeria has never been a first world or even a second world nation. We have always have majority of our population living in rural areas, well cut off from these infrastructure. Those days, fewer people had access to most of these infrastructure because a larger percentage of the population lives in the rural areas, the government do so little to expand these infrastructure to other areas to benefit the masses. Between 1900 to 1960 Nigeria only have a small narrow guage rail linking kano to Lagos and another small one running from the east to the maiduguri. We have fewer road, no serious water works etc. The problem is Nigeria as a state has never been great, we have massive population growing at a very alarming rate, serious desert encroachment in the north, a government that will rather subside for religious pilgrimage than education or heath care. I am always furious and angry if people belive we have the resources to build a good nation. We are a broke as nation with lots of low IQ people that will rather kill for superstitions than finding solutions to their problem 6 Likes |

abdulwastecx: We'll have to define what we mean by great. In my youth in Ibadan there were actually as such as brand new tear rubber taxicabs, running water inmost homes (I take shower on the second floor), I could get to ikeja, Lagos from oke ado, Ibadan in 45 minutes, electrify supply though not steady was predictable, no Okada or maruwa, the list goes on. The only thing of benefit is cellphones but even then that just added more to the trash on the street. |

abdulwastecx: Great Engineer, Your reply is epic as usual. The roads in the estate are constructed before work begins on the houses...so there is little or no obstruction to traffic. Meanwhile the concrete base layer is cast in intervals with expansion joints. My question remain at large.: Combining concrete-asphalt (subgrade-concrete base-asphalt wearing course).... Does it have any strength/cost advantage to using either exclusive concrete or exclusive flexible pavement? 1 Like |

EgunMogaji: Chief, Expenses rise to meet income. There is the theory of doom we learnt back in high school. That human population will always increase exponentially to consume the resources available. So if resources are not well managed, in a short period of time, they will become very scarce. When you were youths sir, you were still benefitting from the aftermath of colonial rule. Rulers who planned their kingdom with great foresight. But Nigeria fought for an independent she was not ready for. She didn't know how to plan, and very soon things went haywire. I pray we get it right soon. 3 Likes |

olumide4christ:There are lots of construction methods employed in this country that's not backed up by building codes or even textbooks. The strip footing we use in combination with an isolated pad footing is used to replace the splinth beam we ought to use. One funny fact, The spinth beam is more economical than a strip footing. 1 Like 1 Share |
