* Continues* I walked gingerly down the stairs, admiring everything about the house. It was so big and magnificent. The photo of a beautiful dark skinned woman and a man in a garden caught my eyes. They looked so happy, so alive, so... " She had a lovely voice too" I whirled around in fright and Emeka caught my hand before i could collapsed on the floor in sheer fright. " Easy, didn't mean to frightened you." " Its okay. Your parents?" " Yea." " Do you still miss them?" " Sometimes. They had the virus, actual my dad had it and they only discovered when they went for their medical test as required by the church for their wedding" My eyes drifted close. " Despite dad testing positive to HIV, Mom insisted on marrying him, her family cut her off and they ran away together. They lived in happiness for five years until a condom accident one night, it either slipped off or broke" " And they had you." " Yea" " So how come you also have it? didn't she have you through a C_section?" " In those days the stigma was much worse, she was rejected at many hospitals when the news got around and she had me on the way to the hospital" " Am so sorry" He shrugged. " Dad sold off his business and properties and put the money in a trust fund for me because he knew his family would try to take them away from me. None of them wanted me anyway, one day dad met doctor Debola and recognized the kindness in him. He made the doctor my legal guidian and for a while i was glad to have a home until his wives found out i had it and they became mean. " " What did doctor do?" " He sent me to a boarding school and always came for every open days and parents meeting. When i turned 18, i made Ada my surrogate, her only child and son was my best friend but he died before we graduated." " So much death" " Yea" He walked away. Before i could see his tears. * Continues* Ebere It took Kofi another three days to find an old Togolese woman traveling to Nigeria in the park. He had called her aside that his daughter in Nigeria had a terrible illness and he wants to send the vials across to her. At first she was stricken when she heard i will take them from her once we get to Benin republic. She insisted on inspecting the vials to see if it wasn't cocaine. After much plea she accepted to carry the little vials. She went to the rest room and put them inside her tight pocket ( the tight with a pocket in front of it mostly worn by old women or traders to hide their money and other valuables). I almost kissed her with Joy, she declined the money we offered her and we started the journey. There were three of us at the back and a couple in front. Ifeoma was all i thought of during the journey. I hoped she was alright, the old woman nudged me and gave me a weird looking food wrapped in leaves, i accepted it and thanked her. " This one very good. Chop, chop, ablo" " Thank you." I pinched little of the white cake like food and put it into my mouth. It was soar. But I forced it down with a smile. Just like Kofi said, i was thoroughly checked at the border, my bags were scrutinized by the officials with utmost care. I almost shouted in frustration. Being a Nigerian doesn't make me a fraudster! We are all not bad, there are so many good people in Nigeria but why are we treated like low lives and scums at embassies and check points? the old woman was allowed to pass without a blink. " Thank you so much, God bless you." i said when we got to Benin republic motor park. " No wahala. Me i stay for Benin today, tomorrow i come Nigeria". She said after giving me the bottles. " Tell the little girl say God heal her" " Amen. Thank you" The journey after that was smooth and by 4 pm i was already in Lagos, Nigeria. I almost screamed with joy, i hurried home and showered. I went by the restaurant to check how sales was going and i was impressed when i checked our sales book. " Good evening ma" i knocked on the door and entered. Ify' s mother was reading a devotional. " Welcome, how are you?" " Thank you, am fine ma." I sat down on the settee because i knew she wouldn't invite me to sit down if i didn't . " Is Ify sleeping? " " Am glad you came now, Mr Ambrose is out of Town and i needed somebody to talk to.......i am confused." " About what ma?" " Although i have read it up on the internet i still want to know more about the HIV virus" " Okay. What do you want to know about it?" " Is it contractable by touch? Although i read it's a sexually transmittable disease but one never can be too sure" she said with disgust. I sighed. " It is not only a sexually transmitable disease, you can also contract it at the salon, by touch, by breathing the same air!" I stood up in anger and marched towards Ify ' s room while she gaped at me. " She's not inside" " Where is she?" She looked perplexed. " I don't know.........." " You honestly don't know? how could you sit down comfortably when you don't know where your own child is! What sort of a mother are you?!. I swear you will definitely regret this someday but it will be too late for you!" I went out of the house in anger, lord please let her be alright. Where could she be? i pondered over this until i heard a loud bang and realized i had rammed my car into the one in front of me. My God! the driver came down, strutting towards me in anger, i opened my door with shaky hands and came out of the car. Our eyes met and time froze. He had aged well, he was still as handsome as he was years ago although he was a little thick around his midsection now. This was the man i had foolishly given my heart to. " Ebere " he paled like he had seen a ghost. " Dayo" " S*hit!" He exclaimed in a hoarse voice. TBC 14 Likes 2 Shares |

* Continues* Ifeoma " Here" Emeka dropped a bulky shopping bag on my bed. I looked up from the joke i was watching on his Tab. " Where have you been? " " Shopping! God do i love shopping?" He groaned in mock ectasy. I laughed and pulled the carrier bag closer. " What's this? Oh you shouldn't have bothered...... I could have gone back home to pick some clothes". He laughed. " Consider it a Christmas gift" " Geez! Christmas is still months away but thanks" He grinned. " Are you up to tonight ' s meeting? besides today is Doctor' s birthday." " Yea. Oh really?! I didn't know and i haven't gotten anything for him! " " I got something for him in our names. Get ready, we are going to dinner first. You like Chinese?" I smiled. " Ebere won't recognize me when she comes back! Yea Chinese is cool, thanks" " That's my aim" He saunters out of the room, he looked so young and healthy, i found it hard to believe he also had the virus. We went to Mr Ying yang and had giant lobsters with rice before going to the Support Group. Doctor Debola kissed my cheek, complimented my look and gave us a knowing wink. We wished him a happy birthday, Emeka brought in the gifts from the car and placed it on the dining table where others had kept there's. There was a little party for Doctor and the atmosphere that night was joyous and fun filled. I noticed Racheal wasn't cheerful and i excused myself from my company. " Racheal what's up?" " Ify i don't know. I feel so scared, am afraid, something is about to happen to me." I touched her arm gently. " Try to have fun tonight, call me up tomorrow and let's b.itch about life but let's just have fun for once, Okay? " She nodded. " I see you came with Emeka, Ebere is not back yet?" " Yea, i miss her so much." " You look good together.......don't let this slip through your fingers please." " Racheal!" I admonished. " He's so young!" " Oh Yea? tell me something else please! he' s so handsome, rich and educated! F*uck young! life is too short to waste!" I looked back, Emeka was laughing at something Doctor said. If only he wasn't so young. " Your eyes tells a different story Ify, you have the hots for him!" She sighed wistfully. " Can't remember the last time i rode a good deek" We both laughed. " You know Doctor is a free man now" She blushed. " Am dying and am worried about the future of my little girls......i don't have time for romance besides i look so ugly" " Oh no! you look so delectable " i lied and actually believed the lie. She had a beautiful face and smile but she was so bony and i could still see the beauty in her. After all they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in that very moment Racheal transformed before my eyes, she was definitely beautiful. " Mind if i steal her for a moment?" Emeka asked. He led me onto the dancing floor which was the living room and we swayed gently to the soft music being played. I saw Doctor took Racheal into his arms and i gave her a thumbs up, she smiled at me and gave me a thumbs up too. I had my first dance that night. TBC No criticism so i take it every angle of the story is clear. 19 Likes 2 Shares |

Chapter 11 Ebere I recovered first, he kept muttering under his breath. " Sorry about your car, i could get it fixed for you" " Hell no! Ebere! Wow! it's been so long!" " Yea. " An awkward silence registered between us until other motorists blared their horns at us angrily. " F*ucking Nigerians! always in a hurry! . let's find somewhere to talk please, there's a cool hang out spot just around the corner." I nodded and got into my car, i trailed my car slowly behind his until he parked in front of a cool lovers joint and i did the same. " What will you have? Waiter!" " Water is Okay " A thin and pimpled face waiter walked to our table. " Geez! what took you so long?" He moaned. " Sorry sir" " How does that answer my question? get me a bottle of white wine if you please. " " Which one sir?" " I said a bottle of f* ucking white wine! " The waiter scurried away. This Dayo was so full of himself, he reminded me of his bleaching body mother. He gave me a smile and i faked one too. " You look so beautiful! still standing ( still working)?" I felt like punching his face, my hands folded into a fist on my thigh. " Still a mummy' s boy?" He looked surprised. " Wow, wow, touche." He laughed. " What's up with you?" " I have my own business now and am doing well for myself." " That's good. Not married? are you?" " Are you?" I retorted. " Actually i am and we have four beautiful kids. My wife is a cousin to the current president." Who asked him? " That must be such a privilege, I' m sure you are so happy" " Yea i am." He said, struggling to believe the lie that just came out of his mouth. " I heard you came to look for me, my mom threatened to cut me out of her will if i continued with........" " So you chose the money over me, that's cool " The waiter brought the wine with two wine glasses, he poured the wine into our glasses and fled before Dayo could call him back. " No, no, it wasn't like that." " Dayo what if i told you i was pregnant when you left and i had the baby." He blinked twice. " Oh hell! you can't be serious please! i have so much to lose now! my wife and kids, my business, my......." I smiled and he relaxed. " Its okay. Did you ever love me?" " Believe me i loved you......i wanted a life with you but i was so young, hell! we were both too young and love is a word that doesn't exist in my world. In my world we marry for political or business reasons and never for love. Ebere i could write you a check, you know for everything. " A toad doesn't give birth to a snake. Dayo was truly a son of his mother. I sipped my wine. " I don't have any use for your money Ekundayo." I stood and he gave me his card. " Please call me if you ever need my help or ......" he said. " Thanks". I turned around and left. I sat for a long time in my car playing our conversation over in my mind. I tore the card into bits and threw it out, the wind took hold of the tiny bits and blew them about. I drove off into the night, my soul was at peace. TBC 20 Likes 1 Share |

* Continues* Ifeoma " Pearl, Doctor just called me...guess what?" he kissed me softly on my nose. My hand strayed to his wet hair, he had just come out of the shower and i felt like wrapping his body into my arms forever. It's the wine, i must have had too much at the party. " What?" He laughed softly and leaned in to claim my lips. " I wanted to do this all night Ify." I pushed him back a bit playfully. " What did Doctor say?" " Ebere called him, she's back and she's been worried about you". " Wow! where is she? can i use your phone? " " Sure." He went out of the room and came back with his iPhone. I dialed Ebere ' s number and sighed happily when her voice came on. He walked out to give me some privacy. " Ebere!" " Ify! how are you?" " Oh Ebere! have missed you so much!" She laughed. " Have missed you too! how's Emeka?" " He's fine." " Uh uh! " she giggled in a girly way." Say me hi to him." " How was the journey? are you alright?" " Yea am fine, am sleepy baby. See you tomorrow " I blew her kisses and we disconnected. I went into Emeka ' s room and settled on his bed. He walked in to the room and smiled. " Done with your call?" He sat on the bed and gently pulled me into his arms and we kissed for a long time, tongue met tongue and we became one. I reached for his short but he gently removed my hand. " Am old fashioned. Let's do this the proper way" I blinked in confusion. " I thought you wanted me." " Yea i do." He took my hand and placed it on the bulge in his short. " Feel it? but it's more than that, i want more". " What's more than that?" " There's more sweetheart. A life together, please say you will marry me". " But......but we barely know....." He cut me off with a kiss. " We have our whole life in front of us to get to know each other." " You are too young to become a widower, i could die anytime." " We wiil all die someday Ify" i sighed. " Where's your ring?" He laughed softly and pulled me closer. " Is that a yes?" " Yes" He licked my lips and gently pushed his warm tongue into my mouth. Would i ever get enough of his kisses? " We could buy a ring tomorrow or you could wear my mother' s ring, it's quiet old but it's ........" " I will wear it. " He kissed me softly on my forehead. " Thank you" We pulled the duvet over our bodies, holding each other tight. I had found my home at last. This was where my heart belonged......this was my home. TBC 18 Likes 1 Share |
