#WhyTheyHateUs on CNN So, i just concluded watching this Fareed Zakaria programme on CNN, quite interesting programme. One thing i noticed quite a lot was the ISIS propaganda recruitment videos. I gotta to say, for a terrorist group, ISIS makes very sleek propaganda videos. Much better videos i've seen of any military in Africa, i'll say they are on the level of US military recruitment Ads. |

rugged7: Baba, I think the government have tried to dialogue with this NDA but they feel they are untouchable. Dialogue is what we all want but since it's not making any headway I think it's proper for the military to prepare for action. Dialogue didn't solve Ogun/Lagos militant problem, dialogue didn't solve herdsmen problem, dialogue didn't solve boko haram crisis. Instead, military did the needful and we are all happy about the out outcome of the operations. So how sure are you that dialogue will solve Niger delta crisis when they keep making the government look like a fool. I think it's better we give the military opportunity to show the NDA what they have for them too. 2 Likes |

So the Nigerian navy finally launched it's second Coastal Patrol Vessel. Unlike when NNS Andoni was launched in 2012, there was fanfare, the then President(GEJ) commissioned it, BBC also ran an article on Andoni and the commissioning. However, with this SDB, there was nothing, not even the Minister of Defence attending the commissioning, the Navy commissioned this vessel like "a thief in the night". How must unfortunate. NNS Karaduwa, a 40 meters, second domestically built Seaward Defence Boat of the Nigerian navy. Call sign P102. 1 Like

[quote author=rugged7 post=48670589]Bombing the Niger delta alone will not solve the problem Saro wiwa was killed, it did not stop it. It has to be a means to an end. That end has to be dialogue Do you honestly believe dialogue is the answer. I think dialogue has been over flogged. Hope you've seen how unrealistic their demands have been, it shows zero national interest. Or do you suggest we continue to pay them off. |

I will assume you didn't read my comments very well. I will clarify. I said: "Bombing the Niger delta alone will not solve the problem". Note the adjectival clause & qualifier "alone". He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.-1stly, government has been less than sincere in the so called "negotiations". And foolhardiness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.- we have been here before. For years, the Niger-delta "boat wars" in the 2000s did not solve the problem. Dialogue through Yaradua and GEJ finally brought some semblance of peace there. Large sections of the SS and SE remain disaffected. If you think a bloodlust and open slaughter of people in the Niger delta is the solution, by all means go ahead. Rest assured we are setting the stage for a conflagration that will consume everybody. @Tochex101 Yes, i do believe dialogue is the "final" solution. Controlled violence often only works well if there is a plan for negotiation at the end. iblawi: 2 Likes |

Bolstering East African Nations’ Capacity To Counter Terrorism We recently had the privilege to visit Nairobi, Kenya, to prepare for the third annual East Africa Joint Operations (EAJO) Capstone exercise. Funded by the Partnership for Regional East Africa Counterterrorism, this training exercise highlighted the U.S. Department of State’s role in building the capacity of partner nations to address terrorist threats. Held August 12 through 15, EAJO convened Kenyan, Tanzanian, and Ugandan security forces and first responder organizations to examine capacity building measures as well as ways to increase regional cooperation to respond to evolving threats by al-Shabaab terrorists and other violent extremists. The exercise included simulations and training with East African partner organizations.read more http://blogs.state.gov/stories/2016/08/17/bolstering-east-african-nations-capacity-counter-terrorism |

rugged7: What I can deduce from this is that dialogue alone can't solve Niger delta crisis since Yaradu and GEJ tried it before and we still came back to square 1 after spending billions to pamper them for almost 8 years. There is a big difference between people fighting for their rights and people trying to disrupt government for selfish interest/political gains. I don't pray for escalation of the war but when things get unbearable you can't blame the government. Every part of Nigeria was neglected by government not the Niger delta alone. The only thing that makes us different is how we respond to government's negligence. |

My meaning is crystal clear, no matter how you choose to obfuscate my premise. I have always advocated a carrot and stick. Words like "selfish interest/political gains" & "pamper them for almost 8 years" exposes the mindset that continues to position Nigeria at a precipice. You see these people as your cash cow rather than your fellow citizens hence the gravitation to bloodlust. Empathy, compassion and understanding is lacking in your assessments of the state of play and current dynamics.. Realistically, opening 2 major battlefronts at this time is not a realistic military option. We both know oil is the common denominator for the upcoming violence in the Niger delta. Oil is becoming increasingly irrelevant in the new world we live in. Nigeria either evolves and diversifies away from oil or dies a painful death. There are 200 million people. The shockwaves will reverberate across africa. iblawi: 3 Likes |
