emmaliver:Before your head falls off from the vigorous shaking, it might interest you to know that acute bacteria meningitis sometimes is a complication of poorly treated ear infections, and can itself lead to, amongst others, hydrocephalus ("excess water" ) and subdural empyema ("pus" ) which might require surgical drainage (Craniotomy, Burr Hole, craniectomy, etc) **** But that is not even my point. My point is, they are asking for something very radical for a simple problem which they managed to escalate within such a short period. 3 Likes |

HARDDON:"May your road be rough" - it another way of saying that not all that glitter are gold. We enjoy smooth ride and never what to face little hardship. I know that Buhari never establish subsidy , or enact law that place embargo on importation of rice, or tell the past govts ( Jonathan ) not to save for a time like now. Justfy your accusation by telling us how the last govt help our situation. |

Osyabj:Where were we before the commencement of the "16yrs"? Where we in a state of El Dorado during the military regimes? I am very sure you have very short memories or maybe u were not even born then. The 16years of PDP brought hope and prosperity to a majority. Workers started earning "living" wages. Jobs were created. Sectors like the gsm, created wealth and opportunities to millions. Many indigenous companies sprang up in Construction, Oil & Gas and manufacturing. More roads were constructed and dualized during these "16yrs". A strong middle class was created. There is nothing like "16 years of PDP plundering". If APC wants to work, they should work and stop giving excuses 4 Likes |

The economic team, it was learnt, gauged the mood of the polity and decided that unless there is an urgency which some of the extant laws will not permit, “the recession may be longer than expected and Nigerians will not get the desired respite, which is the goal of this government”. It is a shame most commenters don't get it, that our archaic laws coupled with corruption, are the major clog in the progress of this country! This should have been done the very first month this admin took over, if they were truly prepared for the job. I went thru the amendments they are seeking, and felt like weeping for this country, that we still run on those barbaric laws in a time of economic EMERGENCY! . . . watch the 2 houses make a mess of this though, just as they are doing with rehabilitation/upgrade and PPP of the refineries. 1 Like |

smellingmenses: You made a very powerful point my brother of which I so much appreciate. However I just feel we should start from somewhere to get ourselves out this economic quagmire in the shortest possible time. Restructuring is good but can we combine it with this proposal without running into problems? So that is why I feel it should be one step at a time.. .. If FG can pull this off then we can now move to the second stage of dissolving power as to ensure efficiency. 1 Like 1 Share |

The day Nigerians can put aside excessive primordial sentiments like ethnicity and religion will be the starting point of our greatness. Here, we see a government ready to use desperate measures to tackle desperate times and here Nigerians are more concerned with ethnic bickering. We are all aware of the cumbersome bureaucratic processes that hinder businesses and investments in Nigeria and I see a concerted effort by the govt to reduce this bottlenecks to allow investments and business thrive in this economic recession so we don't end up like Venezuela. 1 Like 1 Share |

Pidggin: The point is you might not like the man and his policies. But this particular news is a way forward. Finding a way to fast track projects is not a bad thing. Helping states with money to develop education is not a bad thing. Most of those states can't pay their salaries and you expect them to come up with their 50% of the money. How will they do that. When Buhari is wrong, I won't support him. But I see no sense in criticizing him even when he's right. I had to read the news again before posting this. I repeat this is a step in the right direction. And it's not he's forcing it down our treat. At least the house will decide if it's worth passing or not. Have a nice week ma'am. 1 Like 1 Share |

What is this govt talking about, what did the executive do with the powers it already has? It took this govt a whole six months to give us a lack lustre cabinet, took longer to pass the budget and in between there were a lot of flippancy in govt policies that aggravated the problems on ground ,now it wants sweeping powers that looks to me like trying to usurp the powers of the legislature. What this govt should be doing is pushing for reforms in consonance with the national assembly not looking for emergency powers like we were in a war situation |

kahal29: The president is reputed to be tyrannical hence empowering him as such will only aid that aspect. Already security agencies are disobeying court orders at will.... Ridiculous judgments abound.... The mere prospect of Buhari wielding additional power is scary.... Rather we need to devolve power to the grassroots to encourage a healthy competition among Nigeria's constituent elements...which will engender positive developments and a cessation of the current feeding bottle arrangement. Charlatans will think twice before running for public office... Democracy will be complemented by our community check and balances... As it is now our democracy is divorced from our local institutions and common men.... Most don't see how they fit in. Restructuring will ensure you and I have and know our stakes in this country. Youths will know where to key in. I can go on and on. 1 Like |
