I want to the general public to note that this news was totally unsourced, and false. It's pathetic And despicable to media agents to mention the unconrfirmed reports just to gain popularity.
The real story is that no life lost, those on the place witnessed that, it's only some amongst bricklayers got injured but currently they are under medication in varsity clinic.

Its soo obvious dey used substandard materials

My dear it is usually, more than likely, 'inadequate' rather than 'substandard' materials, specifications, etc. Structures are essentially composed insitu of cement, gravel, sand and reinforcing steel bars. These do not vary substantially enough to bring down buildings. What however often happens is that they are not provided in enough quantities to meet design requirements for materials.

Rebar, cement, granite and sand in typical decreasing unit costs. In that order will be gouged to recover monies paid as bribes. Incidentally rebar is the 'skeleton' of any structure so inadequate rebars is like a person with fewer and fewer bones.

There can also be inadequate specifications such as shallower foundations, thinner shear walls, inadequate dewatering, inadequate compaction, etc.

The peculiarity of engineering is such that you do not get to asses the product before purchase so if you cannot obtain quality while it is being made, well you may pay a high price.

Building colapses in a school of science and technology grin grin grin
Reason why the school should be closed down and people should withdraw their kids from that school unless of course like most Nigerians you just want the certificate and go cheesy

Kai Viviangist undecided Are you sure this building collapsed with people inside it? It seems like the building is uncompleted I'm confused
Its exam period. Students are fond of reading in uncompleted buildings away from noise and school activity. Such practice is dangerous and should be discouraged. Money is always set aside in preliminaries for fencing of construction sites. Some people must have diverted the funds for such.

I bet you all that some people will still be alive as at the time of this report but they'll go there and fold their hands watching. Useless country.

Terrible. 20 young lives snuffed out like that? No earthquake or hurricane o, just substandard structures in a university. May it never be well with the people who cut corners in the construction of this building and every other building that has collapsed and caused loss of lives.

You fail to notice one little detail. TETFUND. This is a centrally controlled agency that provides (not funds) facilities to educational institutions. Anything from buildings to books are 'donated' by 'the government' to 'the government'. So it is not the school fundamentally at fault but this brings me to the crown point.

The structure of things in this country is doing a disservice to Nigeria. Except you give these institutions a greater degree of autonomy these things will continue. You simply cannot award a contract in Abuja for a job in Kano and not have problems. TETFUND, sports (as we have seen at the olympics), JAMB, Public works, federating States, local government. Nothing works due to the faulty structure, with everything centrally controlled.

Have you noticed that every highway, every bridge, every water reservoir, every electricity pylon, every culvert, every transformer in Nigeria looks exactly alike. We are swimming in a stew of mediocrity with the way we are structured. In education there is no single centre of excellence, no Ivy league college all thanks to our educational system.

grin Very soon people living and working in public buildings will be mandated to buy insurance, 'special life cover for death from collapsing buildings'; with discounts available for loss of limbs, falling debris and incarceration for days awaiting rescue. Nigeria....

Blame it on corruption and nothing else. They shld hold the contractor in charge of the building responsible.

It's seems Corruption was used to forge every Nigerian during creation.

Corruption everywhere, and we are the ones suffering the effect.. Just as we are suffering the effect of massive corruption from the previous PDP govt.

Like you don't know less than half of the project cost actually gets to the contractor.
Wont be he walks free and nothing will happens.

just a look at the rods used for the pillars and you'll know the remaining parts are only bidding time
