The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Mr Mohammed Dutse, says Nigeria is considering establishing a Development Bank. Mr Duste said the government is looking at boosting the economy with the bank, considering its benefits. “It will help provide funds to operators of small businesses in Nigeria at low interest rates,” he said. On how the project will be implemented, he explained that there would be a screening committee to look at those who had applied and they would concentrate on financing small and medium scale enterprises which were major components of the government’s diversification programme. “We will also ensure that the project succeeds,” he added Jobs For The Unemployed This, according to him, will provide jobs for the nation’s unemployed youths and boost other economic activities. The oil rich nation’s economy is in its worst period in decades and the Central Bank has said it is heading towards recession. To cushion the harsh effect of the economy on its citizens, the government said it would allocate 60 billion Naira ($180 million) more spending on capital projects, as part of the 2016 budget. The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, gave the figure on August 19. She said that the allocation was an addition to earlier releases, aimed at boosting the economy. Mrs Adeosun said that so far, the government had spent over 400 billion Naira on capital. SOURCE: http://www.petmaxflame.com/2016/08/nigeria-to-establish-development-bank.html 1 Like

Ignorance is a serious disease indeed! Development banks are especially created for businesses especially those for key sectors of the economy. I hope the govt can see it through. It will be a good development. |

Mr Duste said the government is looking at boosting the economy with the bank, considering its benefits. ---------------------------------------------------------- Another "future plan". Enough of propaganda! Tell us when it is being commissioned, not when it is being CONSIDERED. Hopefully by 2019, they would have finished "looking at". They think Nigerians are fools, right? 3 Likes 1 Share |

This's pure waste of time and resources. The goal of such bank (including the bank of industry) cannot be achieved, unless education is restructured to a situation where we have secondary school students possessing knowledge to make things like soap, candles, matches, paints, build small robots, toothpicks, e.t.c. That would be stage one. Similarly, until university outputs are able to possess such knowledge as build electric bulbs, radio, okada, generate electricity, manufacture drugs, e.t.c. Under such circumstance, entrepreneurship will sprint up on it's own across Africa, because Africans with real knowledge and skill would be everywhere on the streets manufacturing those things we import. Such are the right people who would necessarily need the development bank and bank of industry to fund their businesses. Therefore, only then shall such a bank achieve it's goal. Most Asian countries have done this, that's why they're developing!. In Asia, except Philippines, such banks work because Asian governments invested in EDUCATION a.k.a human capital development- real education to solve real problems. As long as we don't have our schools producing masses of educated people possessing the knowledge to literally ''MANUFACTURE'', such banks are dead on arrival.. Such bank are simply there to give money to traders and we'll go no where. Africa cannot develop, until we abolish the brainwashing education we inherited from Britain and France and re-invent education to learn on our own terms. Africa cannot develop without investment in grassroots science. 6 Likes |

there are a lot of development departments and development agencies already, they should make use of them instead of establishing new once. we have to be efficient with what we have now. |

The promoters of this Bank should read what happened to People's Bank and ask themselves if they can do better. A nation bereft of ideas will go nowhere |

Are you tired of meager interest rates on your regular savings account? Do you have excess cash which you do not need now saved up somewhere? Why not invest in the ROSABON TREASURY NOTE , ( RTN ), and watch your money multiply with ripple effect. This plan is a flexible tenor-based placement that offers highly competitive interest rates for individuals and corporate groups. That’s not all; you also get to determine your deposit, the tenor of your investment plan and your form of payment. What’s better is that you can negotiate your desired interest rates on deposits above N1,000,000 . |
