Hello everyone,

I recently began a sack farming project to see how possible it was to grow cucumbers in sacks. I'll like to announce that it was a successful endeavour. For those who don't have land to farm on, you all have no more excuse. It's as easy as just putting soil (which is free) in a sack and that's it. I thank all the agric, vegetables and cucumber lords of this forum. Una don try and una still dey try. Please enjoy the pics...they speak better.

1. It conserves the manure
2. The water holding capacity is high in the sack as there is no infiltration .
3. No weed to compete with the plants for nutrient.
4. Minimizes the land span used.
5. U can do it in your cemented, inter-locked, land-scaped compound.
6. Etc.

I try using this sack method and it not efficient (just my opinion and it not objective)
It conserve manure.. Yes
Water holding... No, it only manageable if there is proper irrigation
There is no weed.. Little weed and you still av to weed sometimes during cycle (it not worth it)
Minimize land... Not necessarily.... You can minimize land too on just normal ground planting... I have tried both and I can objectively say in my opinion traditional way is far better and labour effective

But there is a place you stated that we should not use poultry droppings, rather you advocated for cow dung! Please why can't we use poultry droppings? Because I think Jasper uses it

Definitely... I was short on irrigation
I didn't use manure and inorganic fertilizer didn't seem compatible with sack farming when I tried and am not guru just a starter too but almost a year trying this cucumber farm and experimenting

@vanpee. congratulations. I have started my own farm with just 900bags but my fear is market for cucumber. I am thinking of planting water melon. what do you think? I am at Ibadan.
