vanpeele: Looks amazing! You mentioned Tokyo for areas with a lot of rainfall cos it's highly resistant to downy mildew but what is the yield and size compared to the F1 Murano you've planted? Thanks. How about your potato experiment? |
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 7:59am On Sep 06, 2016 |
SenseiAri: Regarding yield and size, you can try it and let us know. I don't have all the answers. The potatoes sprouted couple of days ago and they're doing fine. 1 Like |

SnowJay92:well, from the thread I learnt the following: 1. It conserves the manure 2. The water holding capacity is high in the sack as there is no infiltration . 3. No weed to compete with the plants for nutrient. 4. Minimizes the land span used. 5. U can do it in your cemented, inter-locked, land-scaped compound. 6. Etc. 2 Likes |

Op thanks for this thread. Most especially the area you gave the cost estimate. That has been my fear! Once again, thanks! But there is a place you stated that we should not use poultry droppings, rather you advocated for cow dung! Please why can't we use poultry droppings? Because I think Jasper uses it |

Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by Adegbem01(m): 10:42am On Sep 07, 2016 |
Preciousseed:I try using this sack method and it not efficient (just my opinion and it not objective) It conserve manure.. Yes Water holding... No, it only manageable if there is proper irrigation There is no weed.. Little weed and you still av to weed sometimes during cycle (it not worth it) Minimize land... Not necessarily.... You can minimize land too on just normal ground planting... I have tried both and I can objectively say in my opinion traditional way is far better and labour effective |

Adegbem01:Hmmm, with all these testimonies about sack farming? well, am heading thus your version for the first time oooo. @Vanpeele, @world1, @Jasper7, @Jethro, and all the gurus your voice is needed here. Not withstanding, am going to do my own experiment on sack farming asap. Don't you think there might be something you didn't get right? May asking the gurus will help. |
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 8:44pm On Sep 07, 2016 |
Preciousseed: Poultry droppings haven't worked well with me and my cukes, even the most composted ones. With that said, others have reported it works for them. So I maybe unlucky with it. |

Preciousseed: Different strokes for different folks |
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by Adegbem01(m): 10:55pm On Sep 07, 2016 |
Preciousseed:Definitely... I was short on irrigation I didn't use manure and inorganic fertilizer didn't seem compatible with sack farming when I tried and am not guru just a starter too but almost a year trying this cucumber farm and experimenting |

Hi all, I harvested 23 bags from my 2K sacks (1st harvest). I can categorically say that cucumber sack farming is a very very very lucrative business. I urge you all to try it. I'll be moving unto a more lucrative crop and scale down on my cukes but they'll always be a regular in my year-round growing season. 2 Likes |

Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 11:40pm On Sep 11, 2016 |
atanda2001uk: There are a lot of farmers in Ibadan, so you guys can come together and open a farmers market where everything is sold by the kilos. The excess you send to Lagos. I'm not the one to tell you what to plant. You've to tell yourself. If you don't try anything, you won't learn anything. atanda2001uk: It all depends on how well you take care of them. 1 Like |
