I Am Losing My Fear Of Death As An Unbeliever In Christianity. by Truthman83(m): 2:20pm On Sep 16, 2016
I have noticed that compared to 6 months ago,my fear of death and hell fire is diminishing. This didn't come so easy after losing my faith. At first I was a bit scared but now that I don't think I have a blissful eternity waiting for me. I am somehow more comfortable with death than I usually was.

For the first time I traveled from Abuja to Lagos without praying for safe journey to and fro. I was completely at rest for the first time in my life. Usually I panic and spit out "blood of Jesus" at every given chance. I normally have sleepless night journeys but now it is completely different. Life can be beautiful for those who let it.

Christianity seems to planted in us the fear of death of death. It is seen as a divine punishment, rather than help us accept it as a very natural and neutral part of being alive.

I thought my fears would increase as a non-christian but instead I am enjoying a fantastic peace of mind.

Christianity is supposedly all about removing the fear of death for a promise of eternal bliss, but then it also says heaven is just a hope not a guaranty. One bible verse gives you hope and another one completely nolifies it. The Bible also failed to give the minimum requirement for a believer to make heaven. It seem to be a never ending cycle of fear

I want to thank the Atheist on this forum for relentlessly standing against the wave of religion, otherwise I probably will still be out there nursing my ex state of mind. Thank you!

Propaganda

The fear of death is a natural phenomenon and it applies to all living things. Whether you are religious or not does not matter. When you come face to face with death, the fear will come from within. its a natural response (probably due to the pain and discomfort associated with the transition and the body is wired/conditioned to always avoid anything that will cause pain or injury,)

So correct yourself, Christianity does NOT plant the fear of death in us.
Therefore your claim of losing fear in death because you embraced Atheism is a blatant lie.

Christianity offers hope of an afterlife no matter how vague it may seem to you, but as an atheist, you are hopeless and you are not even 100% sure that nothing lies ahead. you base your conclusion on a 2nd person observation of the cessation of life.

What if after death you find out that heaven and hell are real, how will you sort yourself out?

You were never a christian, if not why were you afraid of hell? believers aren't cast away to Hell Fire. I think you are trying to run away from the truth, fighting your conscience, rather than repent and accept Christ as your Lord. Anyway, at least your church cared about your soul for warning about hell. One more for you https://www.nairaland.com/3353236/knowing-therefore-terror-lord-persuade. God bless you.

I have scaled through the prison of fear which I believe is in every christian. Without fear it is impossible to be a Christian. This is my personal experience.

Christianity threatens its believers with eternal torture in a lake of fire upon death if they default.

How on earth does that NOT plant fear in the poor believers?

It does not threaten the believers, rather it moves us to share the truth of the Gospel with those who do not yet know Jesus Christ. This is the situation. God wrath abides on all of us because of our sinful nature and Jesus Christ is our only hope for salvation because He has paid the price already.

How does it move you guys?
How do you define threat?
Have you not heard several Christians say 'if not for one thing' I'd have done this and that? Bros, that one thing is 'fear of hell!

You do not understand what you are being brushed up on. A true believer does not fear hell but is afraid of it for the sake of the unbeliever as hell is reserved for unbelievers and not believers.

A true believer preaches to unbelievers because he does not want them to be cast away into hell which himself is not a candidate of. So why be afraid of a place not meant for you?

Hell is not for believers! Its too simple not to understand but you guys just have this need to say whatever out of ignorance.

Just a thought. The price that Jesus paid was a cruel death at the cross followed by a resurrection three days later. Is this the same price that awaits sinners? If no; what and why?

Tell me you never had the fear of hell and I'd know how big a liar you are.
By the way, answer me on this ; a true believer that dies in an act of sin goes where?

You are not serious, and why did you crop out the part containing the explanation i gave the op?
This is fraudulent of you, and completely out of phase.
The fear of death and hell are two different things entirely. Don't mix it up, the former is natural and instinctive. And has nothing to do with Christianity and Religion as a whole.

For the issue of hell, it's only sinners/ defaulters that see it as a threat since their guilty conscience is disturbing them.
It's not a threat to born again Christians and those doing the right thing.

it's more like an advice from a father/someone that cares about you. For example it's like telling you not to be promiscuous so that you don't contract HIV or telling you not to smoke/take alcohol so that you don't come down with lung cancer and kidney problems respectively.
How do you see those statements? Does it look like a threat to you or like an advice from someone that cares?

See you have to realize the fact that there is a consequence for every action that we take and there is a price to pay for anything you want to get.

You want to make heaven and you are not ready to pay the price, how is that possible? Remember nothing good comes easy.

Save yourself all those stories. Why are you worried about what I cropped off. I still quoted your statement; didnt I?.
Fear of death and hell are 5 & 6. You can't go to your hell until you die.
So according to your belief, if a real born again Christian just sin for once, and die in the act right before he have a chance to repent and plead for forgiveness. Where does he go to heaven or hell?

Because You quoted a context which is an incomplete information. And that was why you made a wrong assertion.

I still maintain that the fear of death and hell are completely different and not 5&6 or how do you explain an animal running away from death, are animals or other living things apart from humans aware of hell or heaven? Or how do you explain that of a little child?

Bro the fear of death is inherent/instinctive while that of hell is learned.

For your second question, i can also liken it to someone that has been abstaining and suddenly or mistakenly had unprotected sex with a high risk individual just once, does that mean he/she will not contract HIV or other STDs?
Because he has been faithful/abstaining for a long time and mistakenly did it won't spare him/her from facing the dire consequences.

You said you were afraid of hell fire when you were a christian. You were not a christian if so. A christian is not supposed to be afraid of hell fire because he isnt going there.
What you have done is equivalent to disconnecting the temperature guage of car whose engine is over heating. The over heating hasnt stopped by your disconnecting the temperature guage rather you are deluded thinking it has stopped since the guage is not reading.
That you stopped believing in christianity or in God does not mean there is no God, no heaven and hell. You are just deluded. By the time you find yourself in hell, if you dont repent, you will believe by force but it would have been too late by then. Repent and stop deceiving yourself.
