Iwobi is a special kind of winger that brings to the table more than wings play.

He is not the stereotype kind of winger like Walcot, Chamberlain, Moses, Or Simon.

Some times I even imagine what he can do in the CMF position. Iwobi would have been AM but because there is an Ozil in the team he was converted to a winger. He plays so effortlessly and has brought a whole new dimension to wings play.

He looks a mixture of Kanu and Finidi to me. That back heel was straight off Kanu's footballing text book.

So what role do you think is most suitable for him in the Super Eagles?

Yeah, a hybrid. A Finidi that passes like Kanu. Na die be that o.

See how Wenger has really mastered how best to utilize that boy. He plays the typical Arsenal kind of football. Now it is left to Rohr to know how best to utilize him.

He and Iheanacho keep improving with each passing game. We must be at Russia o.

Ah! U are mixing things up. I think u need to know the difference between a number a 10 & an 8.
In a 4-5-1, 4-2-3,1, 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-1-1 the player behind the CF is the number 10. While in the 4-4-2 formation the second striker (supporting striker) is the number 8. Iheanacho and Etebo can function well as either 10 or 8 depending on how the team is set up.

Iwobi has mostly been played as a winger for the national team.Although he can also play the number 10 role.

According to positioning along the field, attacking midfield may be divided into left, right and central attacking midfield roles. A central attacking midfielder may be referred to as a playmaker, or number ten (due to the association of the number 10 shirt with this position).[27][28] A good attacking midfielder needs good passing abilities, vision, the ability to make long shots, and solid dribbling skills.

These are the functions of a no 10 according to these association.

You're right about Onazi. In fact, At Afcon 2013, Keshi played Onazi as a Right Back against Zambia in our second game.

A game that saw Grisha as referee and behold, The same referee has been appointed again for the battle of "Ndola"

TheGoodJoe:

Musa Mohammed had back up with Onazi drifting to the right back role when he overlapped.

Seems Rohr saw Onazi's game under Keshi, I think Congo where he played as a right back. When Musa Mohammed overlapped, Onazi covered during counters.

It looks nice. Against skillful and fast Algerians, that is a different question.

EXCLUSIVE: Rohr Holds Positive Talks With
Germany Youth International Over
Switching Allegiance To Nigeria

According to leaks gathered by
Owngoalnigeria.com, a new face could be in the
mix when the list of players for Nigeria’s first
2018 World Cup qualifiers is released next week.

Head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has
kept the names on the list close to his chest but
news coming out has it that, he has asked the
Nigeria Football Federation to be on standby as
they could be needed to file a case to FIFA over
Kelvin Akpoguma who appears to have had a
change of heart.

Akpoguma has in the past maintained a strong
desire to continue playing for Germany after
progressing through their youth ranks but after
talks with Rohr and his parents. The 21 year old
could be included in Nigeria’s list for their World
Cup qualifiers.

Rohr and Akpoguma have come a long way right
from when he was in charge of the youth set up
of Germany. A tie he has used in good effect to
force the on loan Fortuna Dusseldorf defender
into having a rethink about his senior
international future.

So far, Akpoguma has been a stalwart at the back
for second division German side Fortuna
Dusseldorf playing every single minutes of their
first five games of the season.

Wow. Very interesting news. If Rohr pulls this off, then my hats off to him. Maybe Icon4s might get his wish of a solid defensive right back with Leon Balogun. With Akpoguma going go the central defence with Ekong.

[b]The Hoffenheim defender, who has a Nigerian father, is part of a talented side that is one of the favourites to win the U20 World Cup in New Zealand
Tall, strong and imposing, Kevin Akpoguma has been favourably compared with his idol, Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.

Apart from both being defenders, their fathers hailed from Africa, migrated to Germany and were born to German mothers – Boateng’s father went from Ghana while Akpoguma’s left from Nigeria.

While Boateng has won the biggest diadem in football, the Fifa World Cup last year in Brazil, Akpoguma’s path is just being laid and it could be as illustrious as the older player. They have both won gold Fritz Walter-Medals for their impact in German youth football.

20-year-old Hoffenheim defender Akpoguma has already started building a good foundation for himself in the German game where he has played in all their youth teams – U16, U17, U18 and U19.

Last year, he won the European U19 Championship in Hungary where they defeated Portugal 1-0 in the final.

As captain, next week he begins the journey to deliver the Fifa U20 World Cup thereby adding it to Germany’s senior title. He would hope to lead the Europeans to their first title since 1981 when they won as West Germany against Qatar in Australia.

“His 1.92 metres (6'4in) are perfect for a centre back. He has speed, good technique and is a dynamic player. In 2013 he got the Fritz-Walter medal in gold from the DFB, which honours every year the best German players of U17, U18 and U19. He has said that the coaches want him to become more stable, to play a whole game without errors,” said Goal Germany’s Christoph Kockeis.

Akpoguma is the modern day defender – big, nimble footed and intimidating. He used to be a forward before he was converted by a former youth team coach.
Even though he has not really made his mark in the Hoffenheim senior team, Akpoguma hopes that New Zealand would be a good tournament where he can show himself to the world. Early in May he committed to a two year loan deal at Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2 Bundesliga.

“After the season we have put together a timetable and plan for the future, because next year I want to make the step into professional football. That's why I'm always glad to be at the U20. Here we can show ourselves internationally,” he told the official DFB site.

He is a veritable asset that could have played for Nigeria, and still could if he fails to make it into the German senior team.

In a 2014 interview with Goal, Akpoguma talked about playing for Super Eagles not being an option if he makes it into the German seniors.

“I have been to Nigeria twice,” Akpoguma told Goal. “When I was very young, about four years on holiday. Life is just much different than here.”

The defender said that the the Nigerian Football Federation had not yet approached him, however, his first allegiance is to Germany.

“And since I was born and grew up here in Germany, I see myself as a German, I would prefer to play for the German senior team, if that is possible,” he said

“Until then, it's probably still a few years away - but as long as I see that the opportunity is there somewhere, Nigeria is not in anyway an option for me.”

Still, Akpoguma could have an early reunion with Nigeria depending on the way things go in New Zealand.

With Nigeria’s Flying Eagles drawn in Group E alongside Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR, the second placed side would most likely meet Germany who are drawn in a relatively easy Group F which includes Fiji, Uzbekistan and Honduras.

As much as not all the chances fall to the striker, the conversion rate of the strikers is poor. If you count our missed chances in recent games, you will find out that from Emenike, Ideye, Ighalo, we have wasted a lot up front.

With Iheanacho, we have the striker with the best conversion rate in the EPL. Why waste that because we want to create more chances when we already create enough?

This argument has gone stale but I don't think anyone is playing Iheanacho in defence.
Hes playing right up the pitch for the super eagles.

A look at the goal and assist he got in the last game. One will notice he started the move right inside his own half, before sprinting to tap it in.

Iheanacho can never be a standing 9 like Van nisteroy or Inzaghi.
He was never trained to play that way. Even if Rohr play him as a top 9,he will still drift in the midfield and aid in the build up.

After all, he's an attacking midfielder being converted to a striker of recent.

Our young defenders should take not. Football is evolving and most top coaches want ball playing defenders.

Defenders that play like Midfielders.

With Leon Balogun and Ekong, we have that but coach Rohr will need a back up. Akpoguma brings this.

Defenders should watch the likes of David Luiz, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Pique, Mascherano, Stones, Jerome Boateng, Mustafi, Kompany, Kolarov in defence, Leonardo Bonucci (the Baba) etc.

No more John Terry.

Well, I hope Apkoguma lives up to his rating as a centre back good enough to break into the Super Eagles starting back line.

I went tactical over this one. Let it not seem as if i am always against the introduction of new or foreign groomed players. Just like you pointed is he better than Omeruo at present?
Akpoguma may also jst be invited to secure his international future.

On issue of Balogun, I believe Omeruo and Ekong can marshal that CB for Balogun to play RB. Balogun played RB under Keshi.
