@tanimola22 @pato504 What chances do I have as a graduate of international relations? I'm actually thinking of Lecturing in international relations, Sociology or Law as a career. Law to me isn't a possibility as i'll need to start from scratch...Sociology on the other hand, to me might be possible if I decide to take BSC in it starting from 200 level applying with my poor grades from international relations...I really need to you to put me on track. I sometimes feel I've waisted those years. Advise me please...Thanks! Email is damolux01@gmail.com

Going through this forum, u v read stuff like going straight from bachelor's to phd and this is sth I wouldn't waste time to grab if it d opportunity presents itself. Please is it possible and are there schools I can apply for funding for a straight phd? My focus are Canada, UK, Germany and Europe. I I'll be interested in d field of international relations with emphasis on peace and conflict studies. I v a B. A in international studies and history with a cgpa of 4.49. I read that Canadian universities normally look at the last two years of one's transcript. Mine was 4.76 and 4.58. Please is the future bright for me with this and must I take gre alongside ielts if I intend to concentrate on Canada and Germany? Please how feasible is UK? Man, I can understand how you feel abt graduating with 4.49 cgpa. Still, I must commend ur effort cos u've got a sterling gpa. Register for gre and toefl and get 320+ and 100+ respectively. With a profile like this you should be able to get into a good phd program in US with full funding and stipend

@bettywonder, tnks for your input. V registered for ielts already. I don't know if USA I'll accept that. I I'll consider gre after d ielts. But please I'll Canada accept ielts without gre and between Canada and USA, which do you think I'll be easier to get?

Fellow diplomat. I also have the intention of delving into lecturing after my youth service. I have to decide quickly and I need you guys to kindly advise.

I graduated with a good grade in a Private University in Nigeria major in International Relations. The University is offering myself and a lady the oppurtunity to lecture as graduate assistant after service with a condition that we commence our MBA programme in the Uni.

Seriously, its a good way to start once career but my plan from onset was to study Law (graduate entry 3yrs) and then put in for Masters in Law and International Relations in Australia.

I'm at crossroads. Do I accept the offer or I gain two yrs experience with the Uni,have my MBA before I proceed on my intial plan or I reject the offer and go ahead with my plans?

Kindly advise. Thank you

IELTS is good, but some US unis don't accept it. Nonetheless, u're on point as quite a gud number of US unis still accept it. Both Canada and US are great destination for international students. As for me, I prefer US to canada, though there are better opportunities to stay and work after studies in the latter. However, I must let u knw that most top universities are in the US. If u would want to get into a direct phd program with full funding and opportunity to work as either TA/RA/GA then US is the BEST destination for u.

@bettywonder, tnks for your response. Though USA remains my top priority, is it like difficult to get into phd with full funding in Canada and like wat kind of job do you think one can get with a degree in my field in Canada apart from academia? I so much adore the idea of staying put after studies and not coming back to Nigeria.

You have not wasted time, you just need to re-strategize. What's your CGPA? Get your transcript ready. We can take it from there.

Most institutions now insist on a PhD certification before you can start lecturing. Entry point is Lecturer II. It's pretty easy to get into any of the institutions once you have a PhD. The starter pay however is poor...just slightly above 130K. So think again if it's what you really want to do.
