What you've said is very true. I know of someone who's lecturing in a college of education, a PhD holder in Chemistry after HND, PGD and MSc, and looking to cross over to the University. She's currently running a BSc programme in Chemistry because of this, it also affected her promotion. That's how funny the system works. The logic is how can you lecture university undergraduates when you yourself didn't pass through the system?

In Nigeria anything is possible. Ideally, it is not possible. You have to go for post graduate diploma first. What people should understand is that the curriculum of the polytechnic is not the same as that of the University. For instance in Engineering, the depth of studies of core courses like mathematics is not the same for both institutions. I am not saying the University graduate is necessarily more intelligent than the polytechnic graduate. What I am saying is that they are not subjected to the same academic rigors.

So, for his or her interest, the graduate of polytechnic even though he scored distinction should first go for a PHD.

That's a big point. Polys are not known for research, as the highest degree given there is HND unlike a university where you study up to PhD. With just an MSc as a lecturer in a Poly, you could rise to become an equivalent of an associate Prof (Reader) in a university in terms of rank and pay while the highest an MSc can fetch you in a university is Lecturer I which is two levels lower than a Reader with a wide gulf in pay and respect and that is even obtainable after many years of teaching experience and research publications. So a polytechnic can never be equated with a University whichever way you look at it.

No University will admit her, unless she enrol and have a PGD. This discrimination has to stop in Nigeria.

If you are truly a university graduate, you would not be making this statement. You would have realised that the curriculum for both Bsc and HND

Polytechnics don't offer chemistry courses.

My advice goes thus.... He/ she has to enrolled for a top- up course . It's run by some UK universities. It's specially for equating HND to BSC in a duration of one year. From there I'm sure she can secure scholarship grants. Pls. Don't go for Pgd if you want to be fully accepted into the academia ......... There are some groups of cabal who would do everything to keep peeps without BSC from the academic lime light.

MBA is a professional master. Professional Masters is a terminal degree while Academic Masters is a step towards a PhD.
It depends on what you want to do afterwards. If you intend to leave the university environment completely and work in the industry then go for Professional Masters. If you intend to continue in the university/academic environment, doing research and teaching then go for Academic Masters

If u can ask the same question concerning NCE, ND and SSCE only then will you be fully sensible. Ask yourself why there is "discrimination" between Camels, horses, donkeys and cows.

it depend on the university some required with upper credit, some with professional certificate . Did mine with professional certificate@ National open university

Not always true, many poly lecturers are now PhD holders.
