Do you think you are a free man in your own Land? A police man or military man would slap you and infringe on your rights an nothing would happen.
I think it is you that has self esteem issues that's why you are overly sensitive about this issue.
I could really care less who is in charge so far things get done right.
You criticize me for suggesting a colonial Rule but I bet you can't wait to travel to the white man's land to live under its rule.
Don't you think military regime was worse than colonial Rule?
To give you something to vent more about, I don't really believe the black man is ripe for democracy.
Anyways, we aren't in the politics section. I still retain the right to air my opinion but what I won't take from you is a condescending tone.
The very well off and exposed people are the most humble from my interactions on this forum and I continuously meet them regularly.
I think you need to go engage yourself somewhere else and don't bother with my self worth or lack of.
Well, first of all I'm not Nigerian, my fist instinct is not to flee to Europe or where ever as you put it, I'm firmly settled where I'm at

You call me condescending but it was you who was condescending towards black south africans, saying they've done nothing towards the improvement of their own country. Now that's an ignorant, lazy, careless statement to make, yes it's your opinion and you're entitled but opinions are challenged if they are flawed, and yours was so don't complain. For all your talk of being exposed my brother...I just doubt an "exposed" person would want to be re-colonised because an exposed person would know white people for what they are and not over-hype them to the level of gods

Has anyone noticed the recent drastic increase in the calling rates from USA to Nigeria, a result of the inept effort by our government to raise revenues from international calls. Bossrevolution rates increased from less than 3 cents to 10 cents per minute, effective Sept. 26. The $1 that yielded over 30 minutes, can only fetch 10 minutes. At 460 naira for 1 minutes, why should I not channel 99% of my calls via VOIP, using Whatsapp, FaceTime, etc? The mentioned ineptitude relates to the neglect of "elasticity of supply and demand" ( which even market okra sellers understand in practice) in price setting even in monopolies. A 500% rate increase driven by Nigerian FedGov. tariff increase shows a deplorable, self destructive price modeling, assuming any, particularly at a time of increasing availability of cheap internet based phone calls!

Change ( economic, financial, production, commercial, etc) is often measured in nominal and relative terms, both important! Illustrative is the fact that I usually spend about $100 a month on calling home. This change means a nominal increase to $500 a month, a relative increase of 500%, all of a sudden. Had they raised it by 100 % immediately, many will say , " I understand". The upto date dizzy devaluation of the Naira is still less than 300% YTD even on the back market. Guess what, 500% or 1 zillion % times of nothing is zero. They have actually done me the favor of compelling the discipline of making my calls via the internet. The savings can go to innumerable charitable ends back home. Lest you ask, I also pay, through family support, call receipt in Nigeria. Obviously, data is cheaper than voice at home. So why should informed persons not make individual decisions that collectively may turn Our Govt. policy-----self defeating!

Pardon any heightened passion and frustration about how we "move our country" forward-ly back!

Does anyone know which ISP is good in the Ikeja area? Thanks a lot smiley

At the bolded. (I dont want to quote the whole post, to save bandwidth).

This is what l think: At #450 to the Dollar, that means you are spending an average of #45,000 Monthly, to call home.
At 30mins to the Dollar, that would give you about 3000mins or 50hrs per Month
In days, that gives you an average of 2hrs, 10mins per day.

In a year, you would have spent on the average, $1200 and spoken to them for just over 2hrs, everyday!

Now, if you invest in a Laptop or a good phone with a large enough Screen ($400; one-off cost).
Broadband Internet/Data connection (#15,000 ($30) per month for 50Gb (recurrent cost, $360 annually).
One solid HD Webcam with Microphone ($80, one-off cost).

Total in first year: 400 + 360 + 80 = $840
Total for second year: $360
Total for third year: $360, ditto fourth and fifth year.

Total in five years (using laptop/Skype/ = (360 x 4) + 720 = $2160
Total in five years (makin GSM phone calls) 1200 x 5 = $6,000.

Plus the added advantage that you got to see your folks in VIDEO (as against audio only) and you can video-call for hours on end with your 50GB while having a record of the video-calls, you are spend LESS THAN HALF of what you currently spend!

This was "discussion" my own son had with me some years back due to distance/separation between us.
Just like you said, emerging situations can force us to ADAPT/CHANGE tactics which end-up becoming even more beneficial to us.
We need to always look at the positive side of things and make the necessary change, so we can take advantage of the good it presents

well, I don't find this post offensive at all, I find it rather sad, pathetic and shortsighted. I don't know if it's Nigerian mentality or what but you guys are always so eager to shower white people with praises, like wtf? Don't you have self worth? You even throw logic out of the window. At a time where the Arabs have made Dubai a success, the Chinese are a world power, Indonesia and Singapore are also success stories, here you are screaming for re-colonisation.smh. Lemme ask you a question, why are all your short- comings as a country attributed to the Buhari administration but all South Africa's progress is not a result of the South Africa's government? Aren't those double standards? Are you saying 80 percent of black population, who also the biggest middle class aren't responsible for the progress and direction of their own country? What are black accountants, lawyers, economists, architects, etc doing if they not part and parcel of South Africa's progress? The same South African government you accuse of not doing much has been responsible for the massive infrastructure expansion post 94, building roads, dams, airports, houses schools, universities etc and it's currently building power plants. You are the type of Nigerian that touches down on South Africa and see any positivity and go back to Nigeria screaming "Oyinbo this, Oyinbo that" what of Kenya then? Since they are also doing better than you? Come on bro, I know it's makes you feel better saying such things in light of your hardships but don't mislead people

Keep dreaming. blacks are incapable of governing themseleves thats a fact. wheather you accept it or not, it still remains a fact. Liberia had independence in 1847 and Haiti in 1804 both black nations with nothing to Show.

Colonialism us a crime against humanity and one the most absurd concept used by so called WHITE to steal and kill most third world nation.

White don't developed the indigenous population, they dominate, exclude and marginalized host community wherever they settled. Look at the native American in the state, look at black South Africans in South Africa, look at aborigines in Australia, look at native Canadian etc. The so called WHITE create all these mess all over the world.

Our biggest problem is the type and quality of education we inherited from the so called white, they rule us for more than 60years and leave us in a serious mess, with no infrastructure, an artificial nation build on divide and rule etc.

Black or dark skin people are also capable of building a great nation if left alone, we can build our roads, electricity, factory etc if allowed to live in peace.

South Africa is in trouble because of apartheid which discriminated against native.
How would you feel if you are not allowed to attend the University just because you are Black/dark skin?
How would you feel when you are systematically camped in a getto, all your ancestorer land taking away from you because you are black?

South Africa black are one of the poorest group in South Africa because of white injustice.

I will take up arm to fight any white or Chinese invader that want to take over my country

Clown i hope you know that without Colonization you would not have been able to write this your comment. Malysia ,India,Singarpore ,brazil,Chile a lot of nations are that were colonized are doing well. stop blaming your failure as a race on others.
Ethiopia and Liberia were never colonized So why are they not 1st World rated countries or aleast 2nd world countries.

It seems you both have an history. Perhaps this discuss may be moved to another thread in another section to get more contribution.
I personally don't have much to say on the issue again but I'm trying to make a restitution if you like seeing as I earlier derailed the thread from its main objective.

I supplied a limestone paint with some cool features like improved interior humidity control, breathable wall with slight antiseptic property and quick surface drying.
The client is a regular member of this thread and when I get the picture, I will post them and discuss further about the mineral paint ideal for areas with damp problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. Many a threat or challenge in life has embedded opportunities! Our most called contacts at home have laptops and we would explore skype opportunities with them. In the interim, my wife and I have started calling some folks via Whatsapp and will briefly use Bossrevolution for all other necessary situations.
To fully comprehend the enormity of the rate increase, following is an explanation from the head of Bossrevolution; I anxiously await the peer to peer web text/call application mentioned therein:

BossRevolution
September 30, 2016
Dear Clients and Partners,

BOSS Revolution was founded to provide our customers with a service that offers value, transparency and trust. All of our decisions are made with this in mind.

As you may have noticed, on September 26th, 2016, the price for calling Nigeria increased substantially.

Our decision to increase the price was difficult but necessary as Nigerian mobile operators increased the cost of calls to Nigeria by approximately 600%.

As an immigrant myself, I know from personal experience that higher rates to call back home can impose a real hardship.

I’m extremely grateful to the many Nigerians who use BOSS Revolution to connect home, and I can assure you that we are committed to providing you with the best possible rates and services. That is why we’ll soon have a new BOSS Revolution mobile app with peer-to-peer calling and messaging.

Also, during October, no fees will be charged on any remittance to Nigeria made from any BOSS Revolution Money Transfer store, bossrevolution.com or the BOSS Revolution app. In addition, each time you send money, you'll automatically receive 30 minutes of FREE calling to Nigeria on BOSS Revolution.

Thank you for your loyalty and understanding.

I just knew it.
Last week, all my call plans to Nigeria got cancelled, no notice nothing and this is despite paying for it already. I cant complain much as the deal only had a day or two left to expire. I knew something had changed in Nigeria, all of a sudden all the call providers said they no longer have bundles for Nigeria again and the call costs literally doubled in some cases. I think its some kind of directive from NCC, but this didnt get reported or picked up anywhere I think.

Its now whatsapp calls mainly, and voice calls to those with no data or old phones. The lady Abiki Dabiri, its worth writing her a note as she is supposed to be Buhari's adviser on Diaspora affairs, so this is how they are planning to plug the hole in the budget grin ? There is God oo.
