You asked for an African striker in the 20th century or even 21st... And I gave you Hossam Hassan and Abou treika. Didn't Mido play in England?

The Glory of the latter just have to outshine the former. There are no excuses.

Things may look easier now to you but it's the same hardwork and effort a player must put in to be counted among the best.

After all, Finidi was in Yekini's 94 Eagles Golden Era and he won the UCL with Ajax.

This excuse of Yekini didn't feature for a big side na wa ooo..... He left his mark at Setubal... Yes, a modest side but that was his path.

Finidi started playing for Nigeria in 1991
Yekini started playing in 1985

Two different generations. In 1994, Yekini was already in his 30s. Finidi was a young player and the tide was changing for Africa players.

Not a good comparison.

How many Egyptians play in Europe?? Mido is an outlier not the norm.

This is rhetorical..... I have indirectly answered this sef.

Nigeria's greatest striker of all time is NOT EQUAL TO Nigeria's Finest and most successful player of all time. Tu comprends? smiley

Are you switching the argument to finest and successful now? I thought the argument was on legendary status? Why shifting the goal post?
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 8:03pm On Oct 03, 2016
Tide was changing but Finidi still needed to work his socks off. Till today, it's not a walk in the park for African players to reach global heights in the game. Wasn't comparing them by the way.... I know Yekini was before Finidi by six years in the national side.

Mido is an outlier but is an Egyptian all the same. Even Amr Zaki starred at Wigan.

El-sharawy is Egyptian but of italian citizenship.

Hossam Hassan and Abou Treika chose their paths. They were big guns but yet never starred for a Big european side.

Besides, you ask how many Egyptians play in Europe? I ask this, "How many big sides came for them?" Did Arsenal or Manchester Utd make concrete enquiries about Hassan and Treika??

What happened to the changing tide with respect to these guys?

Hossam and Abou Treika are larger-than-life Figureheads in Egyptian football folklore and came after Yekini in the "era of changing tide". They achieved records that beat many on the African continent but never got the attention of the "massive clubs". And you say, "if a player/striker had done what yekini did, they would make it to a massive club in this era"

Well, Abou treika and Hassan belonged to "this era" and never made it to a massive club.

Mido did. Amr Zaki made it to Europe. A certain Ramadan Sobhy (scorer of that goal in alexandria that knocked us out of afcon 2017) is now in Europe. Salah is in europe at Roma. So what are we saying then?

because of goals? So Finidi wasn't feeding him eh?? Finidi didn't stand out eh? Amuneke nko? Amokachi that was his foil nko??

Yekini wasn't even our stand-out performer at USA 1994. Or u wanna say the contrary?

Was Finidi there when he was the 2nd highest goal scorer in 1990?

Was Amokachi there when he became the highest goal scorer in 1992 AFCON?

Was Amuneke there when he scored all the goals to become highest goal scorer in 1994 AFCON? grin

Was Amuneke, Amokachi and Finidi there when he became highest goal scorer in the Portuguese league(top 3 league in world as at that time)? grin

No be fluke, na talent. Peak, it is in him. grin

I think the idea of putting European titles side by side is not a fair assessment. Yekini scored 90 goals in 114 games for Setubal. That is close to messi/ronaldo standard. He was obviously better than the league but none of the big teams in Europe came for him. Kanu was never that prolific.

I believe the he is among the top three Nigerian players.

LOL.

TheSuperNerd needs to shout Yekini is a Super Legend 500 times for some to get it. He agrees Yekini is one of Africa's greatest but Kanu is a bigger one. So telling him Yekini is great justifies TheSuperNerd's stand.

He respects and adores Yekini. He just points out Kanu is greater.

Kanu did not play top nine. At Ajax, there was Kluivert. At Inter, there was Ronaldo De Lima and Ivan Zamorano at Arsenal, there was Wiltord, Henry and Bergkamp.

He was more of an architect of the brilliant attacking plays of the teams he played for.

I am not even comparing the two players but i believe Yekini is easily in Nigeria's top 3.

You believe if given the opportunity, Yekini would perform up to the level of the top three. Not that he is easily in top three. We are talking of players playing at the highest level and recognised by many all over the world.

When we talk of Finidi George, he was the best winger in the World. Undisputed. During his reign, no winger in the World came close.

You are talking Prata de Bola, Kanu is talking winning multiple trophies, including FA Cup with Portmouth.

And who told you Yekini did not win FA Cups, leagues in Africa and played in Africa Champions final in the 80s? Then add it to Prata de Bola. grin

We are not talking about laurels won by attachment but laurels won by individual impact. grin

The difference is clear.

Oga. Kanu played as a top nine. He sometimes came from the bench to replace Kluivert.

At Inter Milan, he was just a ball boy because of his heart disease. He added nothing to that team..

At Arsenal, he was just part time player nothing more. He holds the record of 115 substitution from the bench. The 3rd in EPL history.

Nigeria's Greatest and finest of all time is based on all parameters which encompasses most successful, most decorated and more.....

So is it I who is shifting or you who asks for Nigeria's greatest striker?? What sort of question is that sef??

We are talking Nigeria's finest legends of all time and you select just "striker"... Who's the post shifter then?? Loolll

You guys just love to drag a dead argument. Kanu is no.1 so live with it!!! smiley

I could ask similar questions as to where Yekini was when Finidi and Amuneke were hitting big heights themselves but that would mean I am putting down a legend. I refuse to do that.... smiley

I don't wanna talk too much. The records and accolades and achievements in both "Green&White" and "Club football" are there for all to see.... KANU IS TRULY NIGERIA'S NO.1... MIKEL IS EASILY NIGERIA'S NO.2 AND FINIDI IS NO.3..... YEKINI, OKOCHA, KESHI, ENYEAMA, AND THREE OUT OF THE MANY SUPER LEGENDS WE HAVE MAKE UP THE REMAINDER OF THE TOP 10.

I do this by combining all known parameters. The records put together do not lie... smiley
