MIKEL CLEARS THE AIR ON CHELSEA FUTURE AND WHY CASH GIFT BY JAPANESE DOCTOR IS YET TO BE SHARED

Captain of the Nigeria senior national team John
Mikel Obi has cleared the air on his future with
English Premier League side Chelsea as well as
the cash gift given to the Nigerian Olympic team
in Rio.

Recent reports has it that Mikel has plans to leave Stamford Bridge after 11 seasons at the club with his contract set to run out this summer, with some reports even speculating he could leave as early as January.

Speaking at the media parley of the Super Eagles, the current Chelsea longest serving player said although he is willing to listen to offers. He has no plans of leaving Chelsea in January.

” I’ve not said I’ll leave Chelsea in January. I only said am open to offers, but I have to wait. Things can change very fast in football, so you never know” He said.

On the reason why the cash donation of $390,000 made to the team by Japanese doctor
and philanthropist Katsuya Takasu is yet to be
shared by the team that won bronze in Rio, with
him as captain. Mikel said the cheque is yet to be cleared.

” There’s absolutely nothing wrong in accepting
cash gifts from Dr. Takasu, but you can’t stop
people from talking. They have their opinion” He
said.

” The cheque is yet to clear, so we haven’t gotten the money yet but as soon as it is cleared all players will get their share as agreed by the team”.

Rohr Backs Musa Muhammed… ‘ He
Impressed'

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has defended his decision to pick 19-year-old , Musa Muhammed who is yet to feature for İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. this season in the Turkey Super Lig.

Musa who won the FIFA U-17 World Cup title with the Golden Eaglets in 2013 featured in the dead rubber Afcon 2017 qualifier against Tanzania and impressed the Coach.

Speaking on Friday, Rohr said the right back has proven his quality despite he lack of game time with his club and the 80 minutes he put in during the Super Eagles practice game against Plateau United was part of his conditioning.

‘ Musa Muhammed was the only player who
played 80 minutes in the test game the others
played 45 minutes and we saw he was very good.
He did well against Tanzania and training with a
top team in Turkey must keep any professional in top shape.’

Meanwhile, the 63-year-old Manager said there
was a short supply of right backs available hence his assistants have commenced scouting routines to find capable legs to fight for a place in the team.

‘But of course we’re looking at options in the right back spot because we don’t have a lot of them.’

First, the news is a rumour and I was sad at how quickly I saw people tore into the young man without even asking how true the story is. It was not until I wrote of my reservation of the accusation that those antagonistic to him started using the clause "If it is true" in their comments. It shows some are nursing hatred for the man beforehand.

Second, Success should not be blamed AT ALL. If anyone has anything to say, let it all be directed to the NFF. It is this attitude of asking players to 'sacrifice' that has held us back for so long. How far would we have gone in the Olympics if instead of asking Siasia to sacrifice, we had put fire on the clueless Pinnick? Look at the World Cup, with the little support Keshi got, look what he did. What would have happened if instead of looking for his faults, we had taken swipe at the Federation.

I for one, will actively support it if all players refuse to fly until their monies are paid. I know some people here will blame them and call them unpatriotic while leaving the old-for-nothing men at the NFF alone. That's why we are where we are, not just in our football but in all areas of our national life. We accept a few lording it over the rest, and exalt mediocrity.

I repeat, sacrifice is not telling someone that is being cheated to accept being cheated. By doing that, you ACTIVELY encourage corruption on the part of the cheat.

This will be my last comment on the matter.

Theoretically, they are minnows. I remember the Uyo game where Amokachi brought Oboabana on as a right back and few minutes later, he was at fault for the goal. It was not a competitive match and We played with some second string players.

GFA did an NFF and Black Stars paid for it. Read a fan's comment. This is typical of the NFF. Dem fit carry our next Match after the one in portharcourt go borno just to prove to the world Dat bokoharam has bn defeated. Dey went to kaduna after all...

this team is simply shitty! just shit! casual,
lackadaisy...no competition so players feel
entitled. i really want to see which new player
avram grant has dicovered since his tenure ---and
what competition has he brought into the team
by inviting other players? twiaaa....and u say we
dont need sulley or kevin? seriously? ...and there
are other ghanaians and foreign borns playing in
and out in Holland or other places? By the way,
who are the fools at GFA who DECIDED that the
match be played at TAMALE? Smh....the fools
didnt know that all the players play outside
Ghana? So of what benefit was Tamale to te
match? Did they want a win or they wanted
support, or both? Cos if they wanted a win, it
should have been in Kumasi...cos even behind
closed doors, we would have won in Kumasi or
Accra ----but the North? The heat? Seriously?
Referee was giving breaks for water after 30
mins? Mennn...we have idiots at the ministry and
GFA...period! These toons will not have their
world cup dollars anymore....yeah, we won't be

Somebody has to be at fault for a goal to be scored that takes nothing away from them winning the match. They are in the AFCON so even on paper they are not minnows. U can't compare Uganda to Djibouti.

NFF OWES VICTOR MOSES 8.7MILLION NAIRA. Moses is said to have incurred costs of
8.7million Naira (£22,000) while travelling to attend events for the Nigeria national team.
Website AllNigeriaSoccer claim he is yet to be reimbursed by the governing body and has not written off the expenses. The Chelsea winger, who picked up an injury against Hull before the international break, was reportedly set to travel to the Nigerian capital Abuja. There he was due to be assessed by medical staff from the national team, but he did not attend as he could not guarantee reimbursement for the journey.
The 25-year-old has instead remained in London for treatment and will miss the Super Eagles' World Cup qualifier against Algeria on Sunday.
Moses' Chelsea career has been invigorated since the arrival of new manager Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge. The winger has been deployed in a new wing-back role by the Italian and, prior to his injury, Conte has sung the Nigerian's praises. "Moses played an incredible game [against Hull] in defensive and offensive situation,"Conte said. "It is fantastic because he is working very hard. He deserved to play and he showed me that my choice was right."

Zambia can't stop all our stars - Iheanacho

Super Eagles attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho believes
Nigeria possesses too much quality for Zambia’s
Chipolopolo and has predicted a win in Sunday’s
World Cup qualifier in Ndola.

Iheanacho scored the winner in Nigeria‘s last
international – a 1-0 victory over Tanzania in an
Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja on
September 3.

He is keen to repeat similar heroics at the Levy
Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola on Sunday and
reckons his teammates will be too strong for
Zambia.

“It’s an away game for us and is going to be a
difficult one. We have great players that will make
the difference against Zambia.

“We have to overcome Zambia first before we can
talk about Cameroon and Algeria.

“However, it’s not going to be easy and nobody
knows what’s going to happen. We will keep
fighting as a team to get to the World Cup,”
Iheanacho told www.cafonline.com.

The Manchester City who turned 20 on October 3
also revealed that failure to qualify for the 2017
Africa Cup of Nations will serve as motivation for
Nigeria to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in
Russia.

“It’s unfortunate we missed out on the 2017
AFCON but we are not out of everything. We have
all put that behind us and our focus is on the
next games.

“We have to take that as a lesson and come back
stronger to qualify for the World Cup.

“I will also work hard for my country as an
individual; and we are going to put in all hard
work collectively as a team.

“To play in the FIFA World Cup will be a dream
come true for me and is going to help my career
as a player too,” he said.

AINA SHOULD SWAP ENGLAND FOR NIGERIA - MIKEL

The Super Eagles' captain has asked his Chelsea team-mate to consider departing England Under-20s to represent instead the country of his parents' birth

John Obi Mikel has called upon Ola Aina to switch allegence from England to Nigeria after he impressed in pre-season and made his Chelsea debut against Bristol Rovers.

The 19-year-old has been named on the bench many times this term after signing a new deal with his club in the summer, and currently plays his international football in the England youth ranks.

The young full-back was born in London to Nigerian parents and Mikel admits that he rates his team-mate so highly that he would love to line up alongside him in the green and white of Nigeria.

"I keep asking him: 'When are you going to come and play for Nigeria?' and he jokes: 'Whenever you come and invite me I will play!" Mikel told Goal. "I think it is something that we would have to discuss.

"If he wants to play, we would have to speak to the federation and make sure that he really wants to play for Nigeria. If he is ready, we can talk about, but in the few times we have talked about it, he hasn’t given me a very positive, decisive answer to take back to the FA.

"I need a positive answer for me to take the case forward to the FA. We will see what happens."

Aina's performances stood out to the midfielder during Chelsea's pre-season tour of Austria and the United States, where the youngster made three starts and several substitute appearances to force his way into manager Antonio Conte's plans.

"Aina is a very, very good player," he added. "He has improved quite a lot after playing in a few friendly games and he played really, really well. I was quite impressed by his performances and it is only a matter of time before these kids break into the first team."

The 29-year-old Mikel is expected to start against Zambia as Nigeria attempt to qualify for the World Cup in Russia after missing out on the African Cup of Nations, which will be played out this winter.

He'll be a great competition for Musa Mohammed in the long run if he chooses Nigeria.

Same with Moses Odubajo pending when his international switch is finally done.

Tyrone Ebuehi and Kingsley Ehizibue seems far from us right now in terms of "reaching out to them".

Aina is a natural right-fullback who can also play as leftback. Meaning he can play in either fullback roles but his primary role is on the right.

He's a gifted young lad. Full of power and dare. Hope he chooses us. Mikel abeg, nail him for us..

Mikel is a legend though. Upon all the wahala to play for Nigeria, he still encourages youngsters like Ola Aina to commit their future to Nigeria. That's really cool.

DETAILS OF SUPER EAGLES SHOOTING
PRACTICE WITH IWOBI, MIKEL AND
IHEANACHO IN FOCUS

The Super Eagles of Nigeria had a shooting
session yesterday as manager Gernot Rohr tried
to bring accuracy to the shooting abilities of the
lads ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Zambia in Ndola.

As usual Owngoalnigeria.com was at the session
and can from our observations, the shooting
abilities of some Super Eagles players still need lot of works judging by their perfromances.

William Troost Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo were wayward with their effort, as some will say as expected from defenders but Musa Mohammed excelled with almost all of his effort on target.

New invitee Uche Agbo also had decent efforts
that were all on target and among the midfielders captain Obi Mikel came top with almost all his efforts troubling the goalkeepers.

Anderson Esiti and Eddy Onazi were also on point with their efforts but, same can’t be said about Elderson Echiejile and Chisom Egbuchulam, while among the forwards Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon had weak efforts which was sometimes wayward.

Kelechi Iheanacho could easily pass as the best
when it comes to hitting the ball from range for
the Eagles with Godwing Obaje not too far from
him. Brown Ideye was good in using technique
instead of power as instructed by the coach.

When Teslim Balogun signed with Peterborough United in 1955, he became the first Nigerian footballer to sign for a professional club in Europe. Although he had to wait a season before playing his first games in the English league, doing so with Queens Park Rangers, he could not have foreseen at the time how he paved the way for generations to come.

When Nigerian technical director Gernot Rohr announced his side's squad to face Zambia in the Super Eagles' first 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ match in the group phase of the CAF qualifying competition, all but two of the seven forwards selected by the German currently ply their trade in England's top flight. A sixth, Brown Ideye, spent a season with West Bromwich Albion before transferring to Olympiacos.

Kelechi Iheanacho is undoubtedly one of the rising stars, not only in the Premier League, but in world football. Last month the striker joined an illustrious club of just 16 players who had scored 10 Premier League goals before their 20th birthday.
What makes Iheanacho's record even more remarkable is that he needed just 30 games to achieve his tally and only four of the 16 players needed fewer matches. And if those statistics are not enough to convince everybody of his precocious talent, his 10 goals came from just 14 shots on target.

The Manchester City starlet said that the Super Eagles needed to put the disappointment of failing to qualify for next year's CAF Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon behind them. The west Africans have been drawn into the so-called 'Group of Death' for the World Cup qualifiers and will be competing against two other multi-World Cup veterans: Algeria and Cameroon.

“Our focus has to be on the next games. I will also work hard for my country as an individual; and we are going to work collectively as a team. We have to overcome Zambia first before we can talk about Cameroon and Algeria. However, it’s not going to be easy.

“To play in the FIFA World Cup will be a dream come true for me,” he said.

A Premier League line-up
Like Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa (Leicester City), Victor Moses (Chelsea), Isaac Success (Watford) and Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) all earn their daily living by playing in the Premier League. To that list, Odion Ighalo should be added, but the Watford striker was left out of the squad to face Zambia as he will be in Nigeria following his father's passing.

With a forward line of such calibre, it is as much surprising as it is disappointing for Nigerian fans that the Super Eagles managed to score just two goals in their four matches in the AFCON qualifying campaign, which saw them finish second in their group behind Egypt. Rohr, who took the side over after they had already been eliminated, is aware of the issue. “Goals is what we need to triumph over Zambia. But we have the players to score them,” he said.

One of the players whom the coach will be hoping can provide the goals is Musa, who only joined the Premier League at the start of the season, when he signed for champions Leicester City from CSKA Moscow. After two break-out seasons with VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie, he already had the opportunity to sign in the Premier League in 2012. He explained recently why he decided against the move. “At the time I was only 19, and I felt that I was still too young to play in England, so I joined CSKA Moscow instead.”

When Leicester City approached him earlier this year, it was another former Nigerian Premier League player who convinced him to make the move. “Nwankwo Kanu is like a role model for me,” he said. “We always have contact with each other and I spoke to him before I came to Leicester. I was in Russia and he called me, because he always advises me what do do. He told me that I would enjoy it in the Premier League and England.”

Playing in England is not the only thing that combines the group as all but Iwobi of the Premier League-based players have already appeared on the global stage – be it the FIFA U-17 or U-20 World Cups or as is the case for Musa and Moses, at the senior level. And although Moses and Success have had to withdraw from the squad with injuries, it seems likely that Nigeria's line-up against the Chipolopolo will have a distinct English flair to it.
