You seem to under-estimate African militaries. We would deal with the same sort of terrorists, our militaries would simply evolve. Before the revolution, only Egypt in Africa had a better military than Syria. The Syria military interms of men and equipment eclipsed any in Africa.

African countries do not require a big over-bloated military. We require militaries which combine modernity and quantity in the right amount to ensure security.

Africa is poor, we have resources, yes....... however countries on the continent lack the technology to harness the resources.

African countries aren't the only ones with border security issue. Israel was only able to ensure security when the Israeli government built a wall.

UNPKO killed African militaries. UNPKO turned armies on the continent to common police units. I don't see how UNPKO helped us.
we are not poor ,compare pakistan a country with GDP of less than $ 300 billion can afford to have nuclear weapons,F-6 jets, ballistic missiles with range of more than 2,000KM ,Submarines e.t.c jordan with a GDP of $39 billion dollars is equiped with F-16,challenger tanks , Javelin anti tank weapon e.t.c and military industry that could rank among the top african military industries.dont forget jordan is the second water poor country in the world,90% of their wheat is donated by america(bread in jordan is subsidized by the government ,basically its like they are given for free)

we dont even have border security agencies or are too poorly equipped, funded and under manned to even secure our borders.most of our armies are poorly trained, equipped e.t.c to even participate in peace keeping

The only security guarantees we have a high HDI for Africans. Bombs don't bring peace, if it did America won't have spent 15 years in Afghanistan.

Jordan struggles to keep economic fires burning

Following last week’s parliamentary elections, Jordan’s King Abdullah on Sunday made his priorities clear when he asked Hani al-Mulki, formerly the country’s caretaker prime minister, to form a new government with a focus on economic growth, introducing reforms and diversifying the economy.

The kingdom is one year into Jordan Vision 2025, a 10-year blueprint for economic and social development. The plan is based on two scenarios: that Jordan’s economy will grow by 4.8 percent or even 7.5 percent over the decade.

But both figures are a long way off for a country with a stagnating economy and few resources besides its strategic location. There’s no oil, and despite a wealth of sunshine, little solar energy. Jordan is the world’s second water-poorest nation, making agri-business challenging and expensive.

Exports centre around potash, phosphates and labour. Despite importing a third of its domestic labour force, Jordan exports 40 percent of its workers abroad. They bring in around $3.8bn worth of remittances into the country, which make up at least 20 percent of GDP and, according to analyst Fahed Fanek, provide a vital monthly income for around 350,000 families.

A vibrant private sector might make up for national financial shortcomings, but Jordan’s largest employer is the state. Excluding the military, Jordan’s large public sector employs 13 percent of the workforce to the cost of 37 percent of GDP. Although they are widely seen as a career-long ticket to security, state jobs pay poorly: the average public sector paycheque puts a single-income family of four below the poverty line.

With bare cupboards at home, Jordan has long relied on tourism, foreign direct investment and hefty US budgetary aid. But the flow of foreign money into Jordan is slowing.

According to government statistics, foreign direct investments dropped by 35 percent in 2015, while exports declined by 10 percent. Tourism has also crashed due to the wars in neighbouring Syria and Iraq. Revenue for Jordan’s most crucial industry sector dropped 12 percent in the first quarter of 2015, and has fallen since.

Pakistan is a dirt poor country which has no business owning nuclear weapons, that huge amount of F-16s or that much equipment. Why don't you leave Kenya and go live in Pakistan.

Jordan a country with no natural resources has the best educated people in the middle-east, and a very high standard of leaving. They didn't get there by spending all their money on F-16s. Jordan receives considerable aid and security guarantees from the US. Jordan is no Yemen.

Southern Turkey is No safer than North-East Nigeria. Infact many areas of Southern Turkey are considerably worse than N.E Nigeria, despite massive defence spending.

For the so called big countries in Africa, Defence spending, a Defence cap of $4 billion is adequate for our security requirements.

Africans are in a worse state, and you think spending more money on defence remedies the situation. Like i said previously, $4 billion is more than adequate for the big countries in Africa, half of that for medium level.

Any military that cannot work around $3.5 billion - $4 billion a year would still fail even if $700 billion is provided for defence.

not being able to maintain a MIG-21 is now a political problem or a poorly protected border or coastline ! we simply dont know how to run a country let alone an army

Yes, absolutely. As with most African countries maybe those migs ended up that way because military appointments were made by tribal or perceived loyalty rather than merit. Or the money was misappropriated by officials who were appointed politically. Don't you think Africa would benefit more by not having any borders?

Don't be so pessimistic with good governance all this issues can be fixed and Africa can thrive. It would only take one generation to catch up with Europe.

can't solve insurgencies and terrorism from groups poorly funded in our continent (just imagine an african country facing well funded insurgent groups like assad is facing.how long would it take before such a state collapses.we can't even maintain simple airframes like MIG-21,most air force in this continent have air crafts rusting on backyards of their air bases

africa is not poor but stupid, incompetent, subservient, non progressive e.t.c problems that can be solved a high school graduate can't be solved even by a university graduate.the rest of the world have transformed their agriculture sector, but we are still starving to death.in the past for every 5 peace keepers in africa only 1 was african. with help from foreign countries now its for 5 peace keepers 2 are from africa. border security is non existence in most of our countries.we can't protect our coastal waters from illegal fishing, let along piracy. proliferation of small arms is serious problem due to porous borders, failed states, civil wars e.t.c
I'll support this.

a defence cap of $4 billion is enough !what if tomorrow you become the next ghadafi or ukraine,is it that time you would be looking for arms dealers !jordan is no yemen but the threat still exist ,jordanians aren't getting handouts and sitting on their a$$.they are doing a lot to improve their country.even if they receive military AID from america, jordan has done a lot to be self reliant .from manufacturing their helmets, boots, uniforms, drone,Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MRE) Pakistan is a dirt poor country but could be ranked as the fourth richest economy in africa
at least they envision progress in their countries,we on the other hand.just want to sell oil, minerals e.t.c just to buy weapons off late we are buying from this same countries.

i can conclude by saying we are the rich man living in a mansion, with a guard at his gate who he pays peanuts.during the libya crisis ,AU had no say even neighbouring countries on what was going on in libya but today those same countries are paying the price for a crisis started by outsiders
