When your religion is giving you guidelines on how to treat slaves, and then promising you goodies in some afterlife, don't you think that's a perfect too to subdue the slaves? Religion is powerful, it made Egyptians erect the Pyramids. When black people are suffering, instead of revolting, they 'live with it'. Why?
