W/Cup qualifier: Rohr lines Moses, Success
as jokers

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is not
pretending that all is well with his team as he
wants to employ everything at his disposal
against the Desert Foxes of Algeria to ensure the
all important 2018 World Cup qualifying match in
Uyo ends in Nigeria’s favour.

Rohr has disclosed that only match-fit Eagles will
be made to face Algeria in Uyo and his ultimate
target was the three points at stake.

A camp source disclosed to Sports Vanguard that
the Franco-German tactician has his joker against
the Algerians who will feel contented with
watching the Nigeria vs Zambia.

“If they think
after watching that match alone is enough study
of the Nigerian team then they should be ready
for surprises. The coach intends to rejig some of
the players that did not feature against Zambia
and some who were excused because of injuries."

We can confirm that the trio of Leon Balogun,
Victor Moses and Isaac Success who were
excused from the game against Zambia, because
of reported injuries copped during their
respective club engagements and who have since
returned to action would be unleashed on the
North Africans.

Rohr confirmed this when he said Victor Moses,
Isaac Success, Leon Balogun and Odion Ighalo
would be part of the Uyo encounter.

There had been some reported controversy
surrounding the withdrawal of Success and
Chelsea winger Victor Moses, with some
suggestions they had dropped out over a dispute
over a flight ticket.
However, Rohr insisted that the injured players
would get their chance when Nigeria host Algeria
on November 12.

“Yes, we should expect to see some new players
join us for the game against Algeria,” Rohr said in
Abuja, on return from Zambia.

“The three injured players Leon Balogun, Moses
and Success] and the one that had a family issue
and had to be excused will all be back.

“We shall also look at other players who play
regularly in their clubs who may join the team.”

Tottenham Hotspur, unbeaten in nine games. Very interesting.
all these draws will come and bite them in the asss in the second half of the season

Something my brother once told me, it's better to lose 3 points in a couple of games than pile up draws with the title of unbeaten.

Appeal on behalf of Guardiola to the Nacho fans.

You guys know I am a big Nacho fan. However, I do not understand what is up with the forwards at the Etihad but Guardiola is not satisfied. Most of the weight fell on Aguero with Pep Guardiola Dropping him from the starting line-up against Everton and Barcelona.

Against Barcelona, Guardiola dropped Nacho and played De Bruyne upfront as a false 9. Even though City did not score, we created 10 chances against Barca. Even created some good chances when we were down.

In the game against Everton, I pointed out Nacho should learn how to skip past players like Sane. It seems Guardiola sees the same thing.

I do not know if Guardiola will opt to start Aguero or Nacho. He might start any or drop both. I want Nacho fans here not to feel disappointed because Guardiola wants both to add something to their games which I am not sure what it is.

It is about making them better. Aguero and Nacho showed they are ready to score the goals. That is not the problem. With time we will understand.

Maybe if he hadn't dropped natural finishers, y'all would have gotten at least 1 of 10 chances in the net, rather than leave Spain with such an embarrassing score line.

Anyway, when he sees what he's looking for, we'll know by the play.

The last time City looked brilliant, the front 3 were Nacho, Sterling and De Bruyne. You don't need to skip past players to score goals.

With a prolific scorer from our forwards (Nacho and Aguero) we might not create as much. Them scoring is not the problem. However, Guardiola wants more. I am not sure if Guardiola has a problem with Nacho's overall contribution but reports suggest Guardiola told Aguero to watch Suarez. (Haba)

Mikel urges Nigeria officials to embrace
'proper planning'

John Mikel Obi skippered Nigeria to an Olympic bronze medal in Brazil

Chelsea's John Mikel Obi has urged Nigeria's
football authority to embrace 'proper planning' and learn from recent mistakes, as they bid for a third successive World Cup appearance in Russia.

The Super Eagles landed in Zambia barely 22
hours before their 2018 World Cup qualifier on 9
October after financial problems delayed the
squad.

Nigeria, captained by Mikel, won Olympic bronze despite arriving just hours before their first match in Manaus because of transport issues.

"I don't think anything can beat the problems
that we faced at the Olympics. I don't think any
team or country can go through what we went
through in Brazil and perform the way we did,"
Mikel told BBC Sport.

"I think it's a miracle [their unorthodox journey to Olympic football bronze] and I don't think it will ever happen again.

"To arrive at a tournament a couple of hours
before your first game and still end up with a
medal was an outstanding team performance.
"I wouldn't say it's the same problem [arriving on match day] we are facing now, but it is still the same issues that need to be sorted out," said Mikel.

Three-time African champions Nigeria are top of
Group B in their qualifying race for Russia after a
hard-fought 2-1 win in Zambia.

But Mikel, who made a scoring debut for his
country at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations against Zimbabwe, believes hitch-free preparations will boost their chances of clinching the group's sole ticket.

"For us to succeed we need to put things in place as early as possible and let the players focus on football, and not dealing with issues like flight and other things off the pitch," he said.

"This is where my experience comes in and make sure I keep the team together. I don't let
whatever is happening outside distract the
team," Mikel added.

Pay rows have often surrounded Nigerian teams
with players boycotting training at major
tournaments over unpaid bonuses.

As the most experienced player in the current
squad with 72 appearances, Mikel is keen to avert such an embarrassing situation.

"I try to take in all the problems, I deal with it
myself and I only speak to the players when there is good news.

"I'm sure that's what they always want to hear
from me, I listen to them, we make decisions
together - at the end of the day I have to have a
final say on what we have to do.

"Sometimes you only need one voice, with a
single voice I think everything goes smoothly.
"With the experience that I have, I will make sure whatever is happening off the pitch doesn't affect us in these qualifiers."

Olympic bronze medallist winner, Mikel has played for Nigeria at four Africa Cup of Nations
tournaments in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013.
He won the 2013 Nations Cup title in South
Africa and was a member of the team that reached the second round at the 2014 World Cup.

We do not know what is going on. Remember, Guardiola started Iheanacho against Everton. So we can not use Big personality. He talked big of Nacho before highlighting Nacho and De Bruyne as the ones that help the team.

So I am not sure if Nacho is affected but we will wait for tomorrow. If Guardiola starts Iheanacho or brings him as a Sub, then we know Nacho is not affected.

If Nacho does not start or does not come in as a Sub, we need to exercise patience because it is about improving the forward line.

I doubt. I suspect (personal opinion) Aguero misbehaved recently. Maybe partying late at night or tactical instructions. I do not know.

With De Bruyne up front, we saw so much movement like you get when Neymar, Suarez and Messi play. So there is also the movement problem.

I do not know if it is just the movement issue, lifestyle issue or both. Aguero on the bench in two games is unheard of.

We will judge from the next game. If Guardiola returns to normalcy and starts Aguero with Iheanacho coming in as a Sub, then we know the problem is not that serious.

However, the final verdict is the next Barca game.
