With the spate of cult killings in Ikorodu increasing by the day, residents in the community continue to live in fear. The community, formerly known for its serenity is now ‘unofficially’ the headquarters of cultism in Lagos if not Nigeria. This is due to the number of cult related attacks in Ikorodu Community in the last few months. Investigation by InsideMainland reveals that over 200 cultism-inspired attacks had been recorded in Ikorodu since the beginning of the year.

Ikorodu is now the hot bed of incessant killings by cult groups, daylight robberies, rape, kidnapping and land grabbing. Unfortunately, the residents have been caught in the middle and now live in panic and constant fear of being attacked by the different cult gangs.

But the cult war is a fight for territorial supremacy between two deadly rival confraternities known as the Eiye and Aiye cult groups. In the course of the gang warfare, the cultists have also latched on the mayhem they created to wreaked havoc on businesses and residents in the community, these two gangs were responsible for 22 attacks in October 2016 alone. These attacks led to nine deaths.

To ensure sanity, one of the most dreaded local vigilante group, Onyabo was formed to provide a intervention. It seems to have paid off as the group has arrested over 150 cult members thus far. In an exclusive chat with the Provost Marshall of Onyabo, Mr. Olanrewaju Olabinjo, InsideMainland extensively gathered that the group has been tracking the kingpins of the various gangs as well as their field soldiers.
