Back to your question; the current problem of nigeria or africa in generality is not christianity.

Christians are very innovative people. Take a cue from the u.s and the u.k, these guys are very well developed as a result of the much distinctive manner the christians operated. The church had a huge part to play.

Any good thing or idea a christian puts up for the development of a country always go a long way. Nigeria is the most religious country on planet earth, but do you know what's stifling our growth? GREED.

Take a good look at the attached. This is what Brigham said. Religion is not to blame for the problems. Its not to blame for our leaders looting us dry. Its to blame for the fact that we refuse to do anything about it. When we encounter one problem or the other, instead of solving it, religion tells us that it is one witch or uncle in the village that is holding back our destiny. See the thread where a woman with a rare disease that made her stomach to swell was burnt to death and called an evil witch. It is religion that tells us there is one la-la land waiting for us somewhere, therefore, we are content with mediocrity. That is how religion is a problem in Nigeria.
I concur but not convinced until you give me examples of what non religious people in Nigeria have done or are doing differently to change the system.

Non religious people in Nigeria are like a handful of sand at the beach compared to the religious ones small but not insignificant.

You religious folks will stifle their actions with your inactions and docile mantras.

In your heart of hearts, what changes would have happened in our society if both Christians and Muslims starts to act differently?

Not good enough. Non religious people have more freedom now compared to those that lived in the era when church hunted and killed them yet those ones weren't deterred. They were like a handful of sand at the beach and Yet they made a handful of positive impacts. Their legacy is still here.

There are stupid non religious people and there are stupid religious people. There are intelligent non religious people and there are intelligent religious people. The few intelligent non religious people we hve in Nigeria are too small in number to make on reasonable impact on society at large. However, if Nigerians were released from the shackles of religion, imagine what we could achieve! Why people blame religion (Christianity) for the state of the nation isn't because of lack of virtues promoting tendencies absent in religion, but the lack of adequate reactions and almost slavish it-will-be-well screams.

Of all the miasma of corrupt cases hovering around our country's atmosphere since the inception of Buhari's era, the suspension of Jibrin for exposing the rot in the 'house' is enough for hungry and church-dwelling youths to take to the street and lead a protest against organised and constitutional corruption that has bedevilled this country.

Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes"- Karl Marx, translated as 'religion is the opiate of the people', one of the long term effects of opiate is development of tolerance ; religion and its basic tenet that supernatural forces control the natural has imbued Nigerians with a vivid flame of tolerance that has aided the ills of political class.
I am a Christian and I am not cool with the level of tolerance Christianity preaches reason being that such level of tolerance is anti Christian.

When Jesus got angry with business men in God's temple, he reacted and drove them all away. Scripture says that he was mad, that shows how angry he was.

Let's take the Nigeria government for example, corrupt, clueless, redundant, and vision less.

If the non religious folks i.e citizens that rejects organized religion in anyway, take to the streets to protest against unemployment, injustice, corruption and the religious ones are going about their daily businesses, what would you think will happen?

They'll be absent from work and probably get a sack, they maybe arrested for constituting nuisance and disturbing public peace.

The Arab spring that toppled the almost everlasting and undemocratic government in the world was successful because of the huge population of religious folks involved, imagine a handful holding that type of protest.

Nobody is saying Christianity religion is the root of Nigeria's problem but when you consider it; it plays an integral part in furthering its woes.

We live in a country where people still pray to god for Electricity and beg The heavens to stop rains. Where people pray to God against imaginary enemies and have continous paranoia against demons.

Is your business failing? It must be the work of your grandmother/village people. Never mind that the recession is bad. Never mind that your business strategy is not good. After all, Shade is doing the same business and is succeding isn't she??

The roads are bad but I know it will not affect me and my family. After all, he has said that ten thousand shall fall on my left and right hand but shall not befall me. It is time it will affect.

The worst is when people give birth to litters of children; and when asked how they will feed them, they say "God will provide." Really Divine providence that has not fallen since you got married undecided

Many a christian today do not support Family planning.
Why??

It is God that giveth and taketh.

I understand that people still need religion. That people still feel the need to believe in a higher persona but don't pretend like it actually solves anything.

Cuz it doesn't.
The country that sold Christianity to us had that mindset and it didn't stop their growth.

Tolerance is good, should even be encouraged.

The tolerance religious people should be against is the sort of no electricity, no good roads, bad healthcare system tolerance, people shouldn't substitute revolts and protest with prayers, it doesn't make sense.

Another type of tolerance that shouldn't be encouraged is the non violence type even at the detriment of your live.

You guys are getting it all wrong

Religion is not to be blamed for the moral weakness and wickedness of our leaders.

Religion is a sort of system that provides an escape for real life issues and when the societal burden becomes smothering, religion teaches that unseen supernatural forces are responsible for our problems.

Instead of religious youths to protest against
unemployment or lockdown the street because of corruption, they go to church to pray and fast for non existing jobs.

Witches and wizards are blamed for misfortunes and for our wrong choices and misdeed.

NIGERIANS ARE THE PROBLEM OF NIGERIA. NOT RELIGION and to be specific, not christianity. not the government(because leaders are produced from the masses). if the citizens are greedy, self centered, and corrupt it will surely reflect in the government. Nigerians should learn To accept responsiblity, instead of pointing accusing fingers on everything and anything, Religion has done more good than harm, civilization modernization, education are all as a result of christianity.

Religion does not inhibits advancement, rather it promotes it.

SHALOM!

Tallesty1:
A lot of people on here believe that religion is the bane of nigerian problems. Seun once said that religious people need help and we always blame religion when someone does the unthinkable.

You should specify exactly what those "unthinkable" things are.

I personally think our problems is not caused by religion(Christianity) but by a lack of visionary leadership, colonization, and the fact that our Einsteins prefer to live and work abroad. But some are of the opinion that Nigeria will become heaven without religion.

The people who lead- visionarily or otherwise- have to have the respect of the Religious people.

The people led have to be in some religion or the other, or else they are out-of-control, and cannot be trusted.

So I am asking to know how Christianity as a religion contributes to our underdevelopment.

ALL ORGANIZED CHRISTIANITY IS CONTROLLED BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Even the Organized Christian Churches- especially the Organized Christian Churches- that are SUPPOSEDLY FIGHTING THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH are, in actual fact, CONTROLLED by The Roman Catholic Church.

.. 2nd KINGS 13:14-21.

14. Now Elisha was fallen sick
of his sickness whereof he died.
And Joash the king of Israel
came down unto him,
and wept over his face,
and said,
"O my father, my father,
the Chariot of Israel,
and the Horsemen thereof."
15. And Elisha said unto him,
"Take bow and arrows."
And he took unto him bow and arrows.
16. And he said to the king of Israel,
"Put thine hand upon the bow."
And he put his hand upon it:
and Elisha put his hands
upon the king's hands.
17. And he said,
"Open the window eastward."
And he opened it.
Then Elisha said,
"Shoot."
And he shot.
And he said,
"The Arrow of The LORD'S Deliverance,
and The Arrow of Deliverance from Syria:
for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek,
till thou have consumed them."
18. And he said,
"Take the arrows."
And he took them.
And he said unto the king of Israel,
"Smite upon the ground."
And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19. And the Man of God
was wroth with him,
and said,
"Thou shouldest have smitten
five or six times;
then hadst thou smitten Syria
till thou hadst consumed it:
whereas now thou shalt smite Syria
but thrice."
20. And Elisha died,
and they buried him.
And the bands of the Moabites
invaded the land
at the coming in of the year.
21. And it came to pass,
as they were burying a man,
that, behold,
they spied a band of men;
and they cast the man
into the sepulchre of Elisha:
and when the man was let down,
and touched the bones of Elisha,
he revived,
and stood up on his feet.

YOU KNOW THAT THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH CONTROLS THOSE CHURCHES FIGHTING IT, BECAUSE THEY NEVER GO "FULL FORCE" IN EXPOSING ROMAN CATHOLICISM FOR WHAT IT IS.

.. REVELATION 17:1-9.

AND there came one of the seven Angels
which had the seven Vials, and talked with me,
saying unto me,
"Come hither;
I will shew unto thee The Judgment of the Great LovePeddler
that sitteth upon many Waters:
2. "With whom the kings of the Earth
have committed fornication,
and the inhabitants of the Earth
have been made drunk
with the Wine of her Fornication."
3. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness:
and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast,
full of Names of Blasphemy,
having seven heads and ten horns.
4. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,
and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls,
having a golden cup in her hand full of Abominations
and filthiness of her Fornication.
5. And upon her forehead was a Name written,

"MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

6. And I saw the woman drunken
with the Blood of the Saints,
and with the Blood of the Martyrs of Jesus:
and when I saw her,
I wondered with great admiration.
7. And the Angel said unto me,
"Wherefore didst thou marvel?
I will tell thee the Mystery of the Woman,
and of the Beast that carrieth her,
which hath the seven heads and ten horns."
8.The Beast that thou sawest was, and is not;
and shall ascend out of the Bottomless Pit,
and go into perdition:
and they that dwell on the Earth shall wonder,
whose Names were not written in the Book of Life
From the Foundation of the World,
when they behold the Beast that was,
and is not, and yet is.
9. And here is the mind which hath Wisdom.
"The seven heads are seven mountains,
on which the woman sitteth."

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH HAVE THE GREATEST EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN THE WORLD.

It was THEY who transformed JAPAN into a Global Superpower- because they needed to use them to take over the World, as the Freemasons wrote in the PROTOCOLS OF ZION leaked document.

[See: SHOGUN, by James Clavell.]

They could have done the name thing here in Africa, but they desperately needed the Black Race suppressed, because THE FIRST PEOPLES OF THE WORLD WERE BLACK- including the EGYPTIANS and the ISRAELITES- YAHSHUA and his DISCIPLES.

The Oyinbos were a mutation, bred for Servitude, but finally escaped to the Cold Northern lands to breed like... well, mad.

Their True History preserved by their Secret Societies and their Mystery Schools- the public information subject to change whenever they want.

THEREFORE, THEIR PRIME DIRECTIVE IS THAT THE BLACK RACES MUST NEVER ESCAPE THEIR CONTROL, EVER.

Therefore CHRISTIAN ACADEMICS are under orders of THE POPES to CURTAIL AND OBSTRUCT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BKACK NATIONS- ESPECIALLY the LARGELY PROTESTANT and MUSLIM nations.

Therefore, they all tell their leaders- who are usually puppets themselves- that advances are not feasible.

They create FINANCIAL SINKHOLES to DRAIN resources.

The purpose of EMBEZZLEMENT has NEVER been about PERSONAL GAIN- otherwise the Thieves would use the money to start businesses and infustries that would launder their loot, and yield thousandfold returns, where no one would even be able to prove money was ever missing, and where their names would go down in History as Saviours of their Peoples.

There is this Church of the most Zealous and Self-Disciplined Christians in Nigeria, founded by a Mathematics lecturer.

Do you know what Mathematics is?

With all due respect, I don't believe you can- even if it is your profession.

MATHEMATICS is the Foundation of All Science.

If you cannot express something t Mathematically, it must not be a Science.

Mathematics is the Language of Existence.

There was a SCI-FI Novel I read as a youngster, that illustrated the true power of Mathematics, written by a Jew:

FOUNDATION, by Isaac Asimov.

The man was evidently hungry, at that time, and like the musical prodigy, AMADEUS MOZART, unwisely exposed a major secret of his people, which could have brought disaster to them, as YAHSHUA warned- but the Safeguards held, and nobody noticed what he had said. He taunted us with a sequel explaining this openly.

[See: SECOND FOUNDATION, by Isaac Asimov.]

FOUNDATION is about a Galactic Empire, whose most prominent Mathematician proved that he could predict the future with Mathematics. He annoyed the Emperor by predicting the collapse of the Empire, and a ten thousand year period of barbarism, in which their advanced technology would appear like magic to those who had forgotten how it was derived.

The Mathematician proposed that the Emperor should create a Galactic Encyclopaedia to contain all their Knowledge, so that, though the collapse was inevitable, the Barbarism could be shortened to a thousand years, instead of ten.

The Emperor was not pleased by the prediction, and cunningly ordered the "PSYCHO-HISTORIAN" to be the one to write this Encyclopedia- but exiled him and all his followers to a barren planet, devoid of resources, with a commission to build a University there, but cut off from direct communication with the Empire.

When they arrived on the planet, the Mathematician says to his followers: "Everything is going according to Plan!"

They began their Work- while the Empire did begin its decline as predicted.

Then it emerged, after the Psycho-Historian's Death, that the FOUNDATION, as it was called, was a FAKE!

The Encyclopaedia, a man who was running to become the new Director realized, was USELESS.

Whatever they had gotten themselves exiled to the outskirts of the Galaxy for, it was not to write an Encyclopedia no one was ever going to read, but them!

This shrewd man realized that the Pdycho-Historian had left no successors!

After he died, his one supposed professional heir had quietly CLOSED THE SUBJECT OF PSYCHO-HISTORY, so that, whereas they all knew what it was, in a general sense, none of them knew how it worked any more.

They had the original predictions of what would happen in the future, but no idea how to make such predictions of their own.

Therefore, they had no choice but to follow the course the predictions foretold for them, as the mere slaves of that genius Mathematician who had gotten them and their descendants imprisoned there.

Every time there was a crisis, an electronic vault would open, and a video recording of the founder appeared, and described the current major events, as if he were reading from a newspaper! This told them even centuries later, that they were correctly following the "correct" path the Psycho-Historian wanted.

HOWEVER, THERE CAME A TIME WHEN AN EVENT THE PSYCH-HISTORIAN COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE PREDICTED OCCURRED; A DICTATOR WITH SUPERHUMAN POWERS AROSE, AND CHANGED THE COURSE OF THE CIVILIZATION TO SUIT HIMSELF!

After that, the predictions were all wrong.

When people came to the vault, they would only hear nonsense, and the video would talk about things that were not happening.

So people stopped going because they knew they would near nothing important.

THEN, IT WAS SUDDENLY NOTICED THAT THE PREDICTIONS WERE ON-TRACK AGAIN!

Some thought that the Psycho-Historian had been so brilliant, that his predictions had been able to compensate for the deviation. A more shrewd scientist realized that that was impossible, and that the only way the predictions could now be correct, was because SOMEBODY UNKNOWN TO THEM WAS MANIPULATING EVENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PREDICTIONS WERE FULFILLED EXACTLY AS SCHEDULED.

This man proved that the only way this would work would be if someone had the power to directly control people's minds.

He built a machine to detect this tampering, and a weapon to incapacitate any such tamperers.

He uncovered a Cabal of FIFTY TELEPATHS, who roamed the Galaxy, targetting key individuals, and forcing them to take the decisions they wanted, while thinking that they were acting of their own free will, the whole time. They called themselves THE SECOND FOUNDATION.

The scientist was lauded as a hero, who had saved Human Freedom, and the 50 Secret Agent Telepaths were bundled somewhere, to die.

Much later, at the TRUE Second Foundation, a leader was explaining to a new recruit, how FIFTY OF THEIR MEMBERS HAD DELIBERATELY SACRIFICED THEMSELVES, so that their opponents would DISCOVER THEM, and think them totally defeated (NOT EVEN CLOSE!) even inventing weapons to use against them.

However, after the excitement had died-down, they would CONTINUE their work, AFTER EVERYBODY ELSE HAD FORGOTTEN THEY EXISTED- and the Weapons would be useless, because no one would even remember to use them!

It was not until the TV Show, "NUMB3RS,"came out, that I realized that this was not a fanciful idea, BUT ACTUAL FACT- even HISTORY.

The Oyinbos have had a means of MATHEMATICALLY-PREDICTING THE FUTURE.

Probably for CENTURIES.

It was not until the last century, however, that this Knowledge entered PUBLIC DOMAIN.

The Secret Societies learned the value of letting NON-MEMBERS refine their Original Ideas FOR THEM.

(That is a JAPANESE PHILOSOPHY, called "KAIZEN."wink

Whereas it may look like Protestants and Muslims are given equal educational opportunities, you will notice that NOBODY BUT NOBODY graduates OUR Universities with Knowledge that can save our country- EXCEPT THAT LEAVE NIGERIA TO SERVE THE OYINBOS ABROAD.

They were likely MEMBERS OF MYSTERY BABYLON the whole time, or else were told The Facts of Life, and Which Side of the Bread was BUTTERED.

It should be interesting to note which BRILLIANT GRADUATES died mysteriously after graduation.

People who would have saved the country- even all by themselves?

MOST CHRISTIANS ARE TRANQUILIZED BY FALSE FULL-GOSPEL PENTECOSTAL TEACHINGS, saying that they DON'T NEED to STRUGGLE to make the could try better, "BECAUSE JESUS WILL RAPTURE US SOON!"

Many FALL for HATRED OF THEIR NEIGHBOUR, by EXAGGERATION of their own Righteousness and Unbelievers' Unrighteousness. They don't want to do ANYTHING to make THEIR lives better. Even if that means that THEY suffer too.

This is how I see Organized Christianity as not helping the World in general, and Black Africa in particular.

Knowledge is a universal entity. Naturally, we are made to be very creative beings, all thanks to God. Adam was creative enough to even name the animals we see today. Science on its own is an entity created by human minds in a way to deviate from the fact that wisdom comes from God almighty. That's why it's inconclusive. Why haven't scientist been able to explain the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ?

He's actually the reason I singled out Christianity while creating this thread because he will use the word religion but everything in the post is directly or indirectly against Christianity. I have always wondered.

Before I go in to criticise religion, we must understand certain basic facts

1) The main problem of Nigeria is corruption not religion (religion is further down the list of problems)
2) USA and UK are secular countries. Their development has little to do with religion/christianity
3) In fact, the top 10 most developed countries (HDI) in the world are all secular and very irreligious (Norway, Australia, switzerland, denmark)
4) Religion is a tool like a gun- it can be used for good or bad. Guns are mostly used for bad.
5) Our colonial masters who took slaves from our country were christians.
5) As an atheist, islam is a worse religion than christianity with regards to tolerance.

How Christianity and Islam destroyed Nigeria

1) Slavery.
-We were first enslaved by Muslims as early as 12th century or even earlier. Then Western white christians came later. The first slave ship was called the "Good Jesus". Slavery is allowed in the holy books of islam and christianity. Muhammad had slaves and the bible tells one how to beat slaves

2) Destroying Nigerian culture
-most Japanese do not believe in Shintoism but you will see many shinto shrines being taken care of as the shrines make tourism money for the Japanese. Nigerians on the other hand have destroyed their ancestral shrines due to christianity and islam.
-Nigerian names used to have meaning. Now we have people bearing Jacob, Isiah, and Josiah- (Jewish names).
-Hausa language and culture has been destroyed by islam and replaced with Arabic culture- why would a Nigerian's name be Muhammad Mubarak? Is hijab a fulani/hausa dress?
-White wedding is now more important than traditional wedding. Church can now say that two people shouldnt get married because they are from different churches.

3) Promoting child-birth (against abortion) and therefore overpopulation and misery
-The catholic church hates condoms.
-Every child is seen as a blessing. Rather than preaching family planning, churches and mosques welcome children and baby dedication.
-Why would a driver that can't feed himself have 10 children?

4) Promoting ignorance
-Telling people that every problem in their life is as a result of people cursing them from the village
-Telling people that evolution is a lie
-Telling people that children can be witches
-Telling people that we are all descendants of adam and abraham (When Nigerian culture is older than Judaism/Jews)

5) Promoting bigotry and intolerance
-we hate gays
-we hate atheists
-we hate pagans (despite we all descended from pagans)
-We hate people from other sects (Protestant vs catholics- Sunni v Shia)

6) Wasting Nigeria's money
-Wasting government money on pilgrimages (both to Isreal and Mecca)
-Government officials tithing with stolen or government funds
-Churches buying private jets (Are jets, jet spare parts and maintenance done by Nigerians?)

7) Promoting inferiority complex to foreigners
-Christians undying love for one of the most racist countries in the world- Isreal
-White Jesus (99% of churches have a white jesus when Jesus is most likely dark skinned)
-Muslims undying love for Saudi Arabia
-Some igbos even claim to be Jews grin grin grin
-American pastors are the best
-Arab imams/clerics are the best

This and many more.

What's then the solution? Living without limits? That lame agenda. A world without christianity is doomed. We are spiritual beings and need that bit of connection with the almighty.
