Iheanacho Speaks On Manchester City Winless Run After Rescuing Them From Defeat Against Southampton

Manchester City saviour in their 1-1 draw against Southampton Kelechi Iheanacho has given his opinion on his team recent poor run of form, which has seen them fail to pick up a win in over a month.

Iheanacho rescued City from defeat with a goal in the 55th minute after coming on for Kevin De Bruyne in the second half of the encounter, that saw City go one goal behind as early as the 13th minute.

The draw against Southampton leaves them without a win in the English Premier League in their last three games, after two draws and a loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Their poor form also extends to Europe, where they have failed to win their last two games in the UEFA Champions League. They drew 2-2 with Celtic before their midweek 4-0 thrashing by Barcelona.

”We’re playing well still, but not quite getting the chances. It’s football” He said in the post match conference after their game against Southampton.

AF Nigeria 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers - Africa Gent
New 30 million Naira car lands Ahmed Musa in Eagles trouble

Ahmed Musa

by Samm Audu

It can exclusively be reported today that national team selectors were seriously crossed with Leicester City star Ahmed Musa when he opted to drive to training camp with a new 30 million Naira (more than $66,000) car.

He further drew the wrath of the coaches when he was almost mobbed after he gave away cash to fellow worshippers after Friday Muslim prayers, all these before a crucial World Cup qualifier in Zambia.

The 24-year-old forward, who finally opened his Premier League goals account on Saturday, sensationally lost his first-team place to Gent star Moses Simon in Ndola with the official explanation being that it was because he has struggled to play regularly for Premier League champions Leicester.

However, it has now been scooped he was really in hot water because he did not seem to be focused for the all-important match in Zambia.

A top official opened up: “The Eagles coaches led by Gernot Rohr were very unhappy with Ahmed Musa before the match in Zambia because they felt he was not concentrated for the game by what he was doing off the pitch.

“He drove into camp with a 30 million Naira car he had just bought.

“And for Friday mosque, he almost got himself badly hurt when he was giving out cash to other worshippers around the mosque close to ICPC office in Abuja.

“Bystanders said he had to run into his car for his life when the crowd became very uncontrollable.

“It was very comical because he had to tear away from the crowd, like a common thief running away from an angry mob braying for blood.”

KILLER KELECHI IHEANACHO STATS SUM UP
MANCHESTER CITY IMPACT

The Nigeria international bagged the equaliser as Manchester City were held by Southampton on Sunday.

Manchester City may have missed out on all three
points when they hosted Southampton in the
Premier League on Sunday, but things would
have been a lot worse had Kelechi Iheanacho not
struck a fine second-half equaliser.

Saints took the lead through Nathan Redmond,
and after labouring for an equaliser, City finally
found a way back into the match when
Iheanacho reacted quickest to fire Leroy Sane’s
cross past Fraser Forster.

The strike was the attacker’s third of the season
in the Premier League—to date he’s also
contributed three assists in seven appearances—
and he looks on course to beat last season’s tally
of eight goals in the top flight.

He’s also struck in the Champions League,
averaging a goal every seven minutes (!) so far
after marking a late cameo appearance against
Borussia Monchengladbach with an effort at the
death.

With the forward having found the net eight
times in his last 11 Premier League outings,

he could stake a claim for being one of the
division’s most in-form frontmen, and Pep
Guardiola must surely begin to consider whether
the poacher deserves more of an opportunity in
his starting XI.

Indeed, Aguero’s failure to find the net against
Southampton means that he’s now gone three
EPL games without a goal for the first time since
December 2015, and the Argentine appears well
short of his best form.

However, perhaps the most fascinating Iheanacho
stat—and certainly the most telling when it
comes to understanding his recent impact—is
that the Super Eagles hitman has netted 11
goals from just 17 shots on target
during his
Premier League career since making his debut at
the beginning of last season.

It’s remarkable evidence of his consistency in
front of goal, and considering Iheanacho is still
only 20, it’s tantalising to imagine just how
dangerous he will become.

It is better we cap Tyronne and Ehizibue now before Holland does it.

They are aware that we want them.

I don't think we should use Moses as a right back because he is better for us at the RW and I don't think he can play it.

"Cap them now". As in against Algeria?

Victor Moses is in the form of his life.. Maybe we should play him at RB...

In football u dnt only set up your team to counter your opponents tactics, you also set up yr team to maximise ur strenght and potentials.

Victor Moses is one of our forward Arsenals, leave that RB position for a defensive player. Moses can occassionally track back to support hu ever plays at RB.

We need to setup the team against Algeria to win and not to avoid defeat.

Ighalo,Balogun, Victor Moses, Etebo Return As Super Eagles Coach Drops Five For Algeria Tie

Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has already compiled his list of players for Nigeria’s next World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria in Uyo.

The coach according to well informed sources has dropped five players from the team that defeated Zambia 2-1 away in Ndola, ahead of the November 12 tie.

As exclusively reported by Owgoalnigeria.com three days back, the five players axed from the team have now been confirmed to be three home based players while two players based abroad were axed.

Jamiu Alimi, Chisom Egbuchulam and Godwin Obaje have all been dropped by the German with the foreign based duo of Kingsley Madu and Musa Mohammed completing the list.

Meanwhile in form Chelsea forward Victor Moses has been handed a recall by the manager, same as Leon Balogun who has recovered from the injury that ruled him out of the team last game.

Nigeria’s Rio 2016 hero Oghenekaro Etebo has also been penciled down for a return to the team after injury and work permit issues stopped him from making the list, last time out.

Man United Legend Blast- Pogba Is Not As Good As Mikel

Former Manchester United star Paul Parker has reservations about Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba, believing that he’s not even as good as Chelsea Nigerian midfielder Mikel John-Obi.

Mikel made a sly dig on Pogba shortly after his record breaking move to Old Trafford by posting a video on his Twitter handle of an incident at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he nutmegged the French midfielder during Nigeria’s game against Brazil, side by side with a message welcoming him to the English Premier League.

“Can he be as good as Roy Keane or Bryan Robson? I wonder about him playing that midfield role,” Parker said, speaking to 888Sport.

“I worry about him making tackles and getting across to close players down because he is rangy.
He doesn’t have quick feet and his game is about going to ground.

“That’s going to be a problem. In a holding position it would be a waste because he’s not a (Claude) Makelele or even a John Obi Mikel because one thing Mikel can do is close people down.

Ehen. I got worried when days ago I saw Shehu Abdulahi as one of the dropped players. He is a utility player that can play both DMF and RB.

I suspect Amuzie would be called in place of Madu. I dnt really know what happened to that Madu guy. He started very brightly under Keshi(Nigeria vs Chad). We thought we had seen a new LB. But dude jst ..... i don know. undecided

Maybe it's an opportunity for him to go sort out himself. He can still work on himself to get noticed by the National Team handlers.

Troost-Ekong opens goals account

William Troost-Ekong scored for Haugesund in the 2-1 win over Bodø / Glimt in the Eliteserien
(Norwegian top flight) on Sunday.

Troost-Ekong opened the scoring for Haugesund in the 35th minute off an intelligent ball from teammate, Kristoffer Haraldseid.

Ole Jurgen Halvorsen temporarily levelled the
scores for the visitors a minute before half time
but Haugesund enjoyed the last laugh at
Haugesund Stadion when Filip Kiss plundered the winner just before the hour.

The goal scored by Troost-Ekong, who is the
captain of Haugesund, represents the third he
has scored for the club in the Eliteserien this
season.

Haugesund currently sit in fourth place in the
Eliteserien standings with 44 points from 28
matches.

EXCLUSIVE: CHIKATARA PREFERS ESPERANCE TO WYDAD CASABLANCA

According to leaks picked up by owngoalnigeria.com Nigeria CHAN 2013 highest goal scorer Chisom Chikatara is favourably disposed to the idea of joining Tunisian giants Esperance than Morrocan side Wydad Casablanca.

Owngoalnigeria.com has since reported Esperance interest in Chikatara but Abia Warriors chairman Emeka Inyama who can easily pass as Chikatara’s father caused a furore when he went to Morrocco and agreed a transfer fee with Wydad Casablance of Morrocco.

Although they have already agreed a transfer fee with Abia Warriors for the transfer of the 22 year old but the personal terms on offer for him is nothing in comparism to what Esperance reportedly offered him.

However Abia Warriors are skeptical of doing business with Esperance of Tunisia even though the Tunisians can pay more in terms of transfer fee but their poor records in terms of paying agreed transfer fees to Nigeria team is giving Abia Warriors cause for concern.

Chikatara on his part is insisting on Esperance or a move abroad as he will earn more unlike a move to Wydad Casablanca.

For now reports of interest from a team in Russia is wide off the mark as the only team presently pushing to sign Chikatara is Esperance and the player for that singular reason is stalling on the already agreed deal with Wydad Casablanca.

World Cup: Mikel Cautions NFF Against A Repeat Of Rio Olympics’ Experience

Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi has cautioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to embrace ‘proper planning’ and learn from recent mistakes, to ensure a successive World Cup appearance in Russia.

The Eagles landed in Zambia barely 22 hours before their 2018 World Cup qualifier on October 9 after financial problems delayed the squad.

Nigeria won Olympic bronze despite arriving just hours before their first match in Manaus because of transport issues.

“I don’t think anything can beat the problems that we faced at the Olympics. I don’t think any team or country can go through what we went through in Brazil and perform the way we did,” Mikel told BBC Sport.

“I think it’s a miracle and I don’t think it will ever happen again.

“To arrive at a tournament a couple of hours before your first game and still end up with a medal was an outstanding team performance.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the same problem [arriving on match day] we are facing now, but it is still the same issue that needs to be sorted out,” said Mikel.

Three-time African champions Nigeria are top of Group B in their qualifying race for Russia 2018 after a hard-fought 2-1 win in Zambia.

But Mikel, who made a scoring debut for his country at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations against Zimbabwe, believes that a hitch-free preparation will boost their chances of clinching the group’s sole ticket.

“For us to succeed we need to put things in place as early as possible and let the players focus on football, and not dealing with issues like flight and other things off the pitch,” he said.

“This is where my experience comes in and I make sure I keep the team together. I don’t let whatever is happening outside distract the team,” Mikel added.

Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier: Eagles must improve, NFF tasks Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has demanded a technically improved Super Eagles from the technical adviser, Gernort Rohr, ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifier match against Algeria on November 12.

Apparently not satisfied with the technical depth of the Super Eagles in the 2-1 win against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in their Group B qualifier game in Ndola, the NFF technical committee, has tasked Rohr to work on the weak departments which were glaring during the match at Ndola.

A member of the committee said the Franco- German coach was told in clear terms to juggle the team to give Nigeria a formidable squad capable of beating Algeria convincingly in Uyo, to maintain the country’s lead on the group table.

“We are very glad we won the match against Zambia. It is a morale booster. The players’ confidence is high, but there is still a lot of work to do in the team.

We should not be carried away by the three points. Our target is to win all our matches and drop no point on the road. We have made our observations known to the head of the technical crew, Rohr.

We have been talking to him on the need to fortify the team,” the committee member who pleaded anonymity told breakingtimes.com.

Describing the Algerian team as a good side, he said the North Africans are in a tight situation after the home draw against Cameroon in their first game.

“Algeria are obviously under pressure following the draw with Cameroon, resulting in the sacking of their coach.

“They are coming to Uyo to play the game of their live. They have their back on the wall and are ready to throw everything in the match against the Super Eagles to keep any hope of qualifying from the group alive.

“We are not resting on our oars. We are working. We have the players but not yet a team. You don’t get a formidable team in a week. It requires time and positive inputs. The technical crew are working. They have the support of the NFF and the technical committee. We are optimistic Rohr will present a stronger squad against Algeria,” he said.

2018 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER: Algeria Plots Eagles’ Downfall, Contacts Wilmots, Courbis

By Olawale Ajimotokan in Abuja
The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has placed former coach of Belgium, Marc Wilmots on top of its wish list for the 2018 World Cup showdown between Nigeria and Algeria in Uyo on November 12.

The other favourite is Rolland Courbis , who coached Niger in 2012 and was recently in charge of French club, Stade Rennaias.

The former defender is also familiar with Algeria having coached local club USM Alger between 2012 and 2013.

Algeria which is in a tough Africa qualifying Group B in the race to Russia 2018 along Zambia, Cameroun and Nigeria, has been left with an Mount Everest to climb, following Serbian Milovan Rajevac’s departure in the wake of the 1-1 home draw with Cameroun.

Various media reports in Algeria last night said that FAF President, Mohamed Raouraoua, met Wilmots in Brussels on Thursday to sound him out on the prospect of the national team job, while he held further discussions in Paris the following day with Courbis.

The board of FAF is expected to announce a new coach as soon as possible after studying the reports of the technical committee to galvanise the Fennecs preparations for the must-win clash against old adversaries, Nigeria.

Wilmots, who was at the helms of Belgium Euro 2016 campaign in France where they were eliminated in the quarter final by Wales, is reported to have demanded a monthly salary of 100,000 Euros from FAF to take the plunge with Algeria.

The two technicians have been presented with a mandate to qualify Algeria for the 2018 World Cup and at least a quarter final berth at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

But there are fears that Algeria may not be in position to afford a wage bill of 100,000 Euroes because of decline in government revenue arising from the sharp fall in the international prices of crude oil, the mainstay of Algeria’s economy.

Apart from that Algeria is competing with German club Schalke 04 in the race to lure Wilmot and may match the Belgian’s monetary demands.

I would argue that it shows his lack of inventiveness, as a striker you need to be taking shots not being conservative, seventeen shots on target from eleven games isn't a good return

I would counter-argue it shows how little he gets the ball and especially how little the City players seek him out.... smiley

He saved their sorry asses yesterday and was super inventive enough to have set up Silva and Gundogan who blew their chances and also to have had another shot blocked away for a corner after scoring his goal in the 55th minute.

He saved their sorry asses yesterday and was super inventive enough to have set up Silva and Gundogan who blew their chances and also to have had another shot blocked away for a corner after scoring his goal in the 55th minute.

I am not necessarily saying that you are not correct, I am just saying that a players has such a poor shot ratio should try to improve it and it shouldn't really be a great thing. I meant it more in a general term, a striker should be trying to shoot most times

No be when such striker see ball??

Nacho no dey see ball most times. His teammates, most of them, don't seek him out... Na him fault??

Besides, I prefer a striker who, when he strikes at goal, is guaranteed to score than one who continuously shoots and converts just 1 outta 15 attempts.

It is the system, last year he shot the ball more, we all remember him against this same team last year.

Yesterday Sterling felt he was Messi and kept on ignoring Iheanacho's runs for the final ball. I get angry at my guy KDB cuz sometimes he just looks the other way. Silva only looks for him after all is lost. The only guys i trust as of now are Sane and Navas.

disagree with you. that stat just shows how scarily efficient he is and his level of football intelligence. he has no time for useless dribbles with no end result. just feed and see him score or assist

Mickael2:

I would argue that it shows his lack of inventiveness, as a striker you need to be taking shots not being conservative, seventeen shots on target from eleven games isn't a good return

It's obvious the public voting was to determine the top 10 from among 40 candidates.

The main voting was done by 30 accredited Media houses across Europe. Nacho, Iwobi, Donnarumma, Rashford (or Rashfraud- Courtesy of Safarigirl wink ), and Coman all made the top 10. But Renato Sanches takes it... smiley Well deserved. *applause*

EUROPEAN CHAMPION BEATS IHEANACHO, IWOBI TO 2016 GOLDEN BOY AWARD

European Championship winner and Bayern
Munich midfielder, Renato Sanches has been
named winner of the European Golden Boy award beating the Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi. The European Golden Boy award put together by Italian newspaper, Tutto Sport listed an array of exciting young talents in the shortlist of the award last month.

19-year-old Sanches is to be handed a trophy at a Monte Carlo ceremony after beating off
contenders like Manchester City starlet, Iheanacho, Arsenal’s Iwobi. His Bayern teammate, Kingsley Coman and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma were other contenders.

The winner was decided by votes from journalists representing 30 newspapers across Europe to name the best player in 2016 under the age of 21.

The goal scored by Troost-Ekong, who is the
captain of Haugesund, represents the third he
has scored for the club in the Eliteserien this
season.

Haugesund currently sit in fourth place in the
Eliteserien standings with 44 points from 28
matches.

We have other dangerous options from the wings plus he can support them with his overlapping runs.

exactly, Pep wants his players to shoot more, De Bruyne shoots a lot and he is the only main figure of Pep's city, Sterling too is shooting more. that's what Pep wants so Iheanacho should start shooting more

it shows that he doesn't take risks, Messi under Pep took risks, Xavi and Iniesta and the lot of them took risks, high risk high reward that's his game. so waiting until you are one on one with the goalkeeper to take a shot isn't Pro's game right
