africaken254: Has more to do with the Americans trying to avoid having to design a new tank until the 2030's - the arrival of the Armata has caused all the major players (Brits, Germans, Americans) to start thinking about new designs and the Americans are trying to buy time the SEP v3 upgrade is basically the last upgrade they can do. The French and Germans have allready formed a company to build their new tank (I think). Marines cant do all SEP v3 upgrades because it will be to heavy for their core role - amphibious assault - until they get their new heavy transport thingys into service. Infact, I dont think the Marines have had most of the SEP upgrades that the Army has done - pretty sure many of their Abrams are M1A2 legacy. Fact is that there is nothing new about the ATGM's in existence - Kornet is now 20 years old. |

ActivateKruger: That's incorrect, those with berets were always CAT. I'm guessing part of the reason to change their uniform was probably informed by this misconception |

patches689: The officers in the photos are all PPS members. An easy way of ALWAYS distinguishing between PPU and CAT is if the officer is wearing a ballistic helmet or a beret. Officers wearing baseball caps are strictly PPU which means they're close protection and don't stay around for shootouts. That is a job for CAT hence the ballistic helmets, vests and smoke grenades etc. CAT members do at times wear civvies, so as to blend in however there is always a mixture of civvies and uniformed members in advance and close in capacities. In addition CAT assists the Reserve Bank with in transit security. If you live in Gauteng I'm sure you've seen those massive slow moving motorcades of 18 wheeler trucks with security. The NIU or TRT as far as I know NEVER assists with close or parameter protection of VIPs more especially the president. What I have witnessed myself is that local police stations will be asked to avail a few officers on dirtbikes etc to patrol an area a PPS protected VIP will be visiting. But that was 2011 and things may have changed because TMPD now permanently escorts PPS motorcades. |

are they poaching sailors from the navy or they are training their own? Again have u noticed that civilian government departments tend to buy "European" equipment something they will not do with the military? Police airbus Helos and the fleet of fisheries patrol/research vessels from the nordic countries come to mind Namibia's fisheries fleet

C295W MILITARY AIRCRAFT: AIRBUS HOLDS DISCUSSION ON SALE PROPOSAL The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar today played host to His Excellency, the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfonso Barnuevo Sebastian De Erice, who led two executives of Airbus Defence and Space Company (Spain) to Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to hold further discussion on the company’s proposal to sell the C295W military aircraft to the NAF. The company, earlier in January this year, had made a presentation on the aircraft and submitted a sale proposal to the NAF. Based on its operational capabilities, the aircraft was considered suitable to meet some of the operational needs of the NAF including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and airlift operations. The NAF has recommended the aircraft for acquisition and provisions have been made for this in the 2017 budget proposal. Meanwhile the Chief has urged the visiting team to start looking into training areas for NAF pilots and technicians on the aircraft. This, the CAS said, is with a view to ensuring a smooth take-off for the operation of the aircraft in the event of its approval by the Federal Government. The NAF is interested in the variant of the aircraft that is capable of undertaking multiple roles. 3 Likes

jteku: Fuvcking Awesome bro!!!!!!. I've had dreams about this aircraft, infact my dreams have had dreams about the C295. I always wondered why we hadn't considered it. Beautiful!!! More and more good news for NAF, it's incredible. 1 Like |

jteku: This is fantastic news! This aircraft would fit in well into NAF's requirements. If Badeh and Amosu were not such morons, some of these orders should have taken place along time ago. This aircraft could replace the G-222 and Donier DO-228 in NAF service. We mount a FLIR pod like we do on virtually all our aircrafts these days and we got a decent multi-role aircraft. It can carry 71 troops, performs excellently in hot & humid conditions and is powered by two powerful Pratt & Whitney engines. Excellent choice by NAF. A minimum of 6 Aircrafts should be our start-up order, and a further 4 in the years ahead. Nice! 1 Like |

africaken254: Again, no Abrams with the DU layer has ever been penetrated. Big difference between the M1, M1A1, M1A2 and M1A2's with SEP (1, 2 and 3)... As well as the other half dozen upgrade systems floating around (TUSK, HA+ etc) Iraqis use the old M1A1 (no DU, no SEP, not fully digitised), Saudis use mainly M1A2S (degraded SEP v1) which have chobbham but no DU. The DU is the key. |

Henry240: Work out the flight costs. Remember when RSA got offered a lease of those 5 MPAs? It worked out to an operational cost of R155 million per year with one flying every 2 days, excluding acquisition costs. Your budget is shrinking not growing, with the war against Boko winding down its going to be harder and harder to get money from Govt who would rather use it to buy votes. |

Patchesagain: Brits have never exported it. People call all composit armour chobbam these days and that is wrong. America use there own composit armour developed in America. South all so uses it's own composit armour. Chobbam is britsh only used by them. It has become a word used to describe all composit armour but this is wrong. 1 Like |
