giles14:Pilot training is the reason behind those looses. Russians are way better. Majority of, if not all modern BVRAAMs use active radar guidance. Putting out waves in search of the target mostly in the terminal phase of their flight. Meaning their approach isn't really quiet. SRAAMs mostly use IR seekers meaning they maintain a passive flight even in the attacking terminal phase. This method of guidance operates like an eye though looking out for IR signatures. I believe many air combat kills will still be WVR. |

New Delhi and Moscow purportedly have finally agreed to a work-share agreement for the co-production of a new warplane. By Franz-Stefan Gady September 12, 2016 After repeated delays, India and Russia have agreed to a detailed work-sharing agreement for the joint production of design and production of a new fighter jet under the so-called joint Sukhoi/HAL Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) project, known in India as the Perspective Multi-role Fighter (PMF), according to Indian media reports. “From a preliminary document that was barely two dozen pages, we have agreed on a 650 page detailed plan that specifies exactly what all will be shared,” an unidentified Indian defense official told The Economic Times. A final contract is expected to be signed in early 2017. The talks between Indian and Russian defense officials were allegedly accelerated ahead of an Indian-Russian summit to be held in Goa on October 15. As I reported in January, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to reach an agreement during a bilateral meeting in Moscow in December 2015. The FGFA/PMF project has been hampered by repeated delays since the start of the project in 2007 and the signing of a preliminary $295 million design contract in 2010. In 2015, Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar decided to make one last push toward reaching an agreement with Russia. I explained: Delays were caused by New Delhi and Moscow disagreeing over many fundamental aspects of the joint development project including work and cost share, aircraft technology, as well as the number of aircraft to be ordered. After evaluating the first PAK FA T-50 prototype (the Russian prototype of the PMF), the Indian Air Force (IAF) wanted more than 40 changes addressing, among other things, perceived weaknesses in the plane’s engine, stealth, and weapon-carrying capabilities. Russia announced in late 2015 that it would only induct a squadron (18-24 aircraft) of PAK FA fighter aircraft, and procure additional Sukhoi Su-35 aircraft instead. The original deal involved Russia procuring 250 and India 144 aircraft at a cost of around $30 billion by 2022. As a result, India threatened to abandon the project in its entirety. Russia in turn made a number of concessions including an offer to cut down its financial contribution from $6 to $ 3.7 billion for three PAK FA T-50 prototypes and substantial technology transfers. Despite the agreeing on a work-share plan, problems with the FGFA/PMF project nevertheless will remain. Russia’s defense industry is still facing technical (as well as financial) hurdles including designing a new engine for the aircraft, given that PAK FA prototypes are currently using engines also installed on Sukhoi Su-35S 4++ generation multi-role fighter jets, calling into question whether the PAK FA can genuinely be classified as an 5th generation aircraft As part of the effort to salvage the defense deal, Moscow has also agreed to let Indian test pilots fly the PAK FA T-50 prototype currently undergoing flight trials in Russia. Hundreds of flight tests have taken place over the last months and the Russian Air Force expects the first aircraft to be inducted into its ranks in 2017. Nevertheless, many senior officers in the IAF remain skeptical about the aircraft’s affordability and capabilities. ****************************************************************** BENAULIM (GOA): With military deals worth about Rs 60,000 crore signed and sealed with India here, Russia is hopeful that another big ticket agreement on Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft will be inked by year-end. "The agreement had been completed on our end, we are ready to sign it. It is now down to the Indian side. "There are some formalities to figure out, but I think it will be signed by the end of this year," Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation a Russian umbrella organisation of 700 hi-tech civilian and military firms, said here. After a hiatus of nearly a year, India and Russia had in February revived talks on the much delayed FGFA project after a clearance from Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. Since then, a lot of issues related to work share, IPR and technology transfer among others have been sorted out between the two sides along with the monetary commitments. Under the new offer, India will have to pay about $3.7 billion, instead of $ 6 billion, for the technological know-how and three prototypes of the fighters, defence sources have said. In 2010, India had agreed to pay $295 million towards the preliminary design of the fighter, called in India as Perspective Multi-role Fighter (PMF). "The FGFA project will produce a state of the art fighter jet, and it will be the result of the work on Russia's most modern technology done by both Russian and Indian engineers and constructors," Chemezov said. "As a Fifth Generation, it means fifth generation speed, ballistics and military equipment, avionics and stealth capabilities among other qualities," he said. "It shall be on a par with the capabilities of Russia's PAK-FA T-50 aircraft, a Fifth-Generation fighter but as it will be designed in the next few years, it is likely to exceed it in some specifics. "Our technology is always developing," the Russia's top defence industry official said.

IT SEEMS ON AUGUST 2015 AN IAF F16SOUFA WAS SHOT DOWN OVER SYRIA BY AN S300 SYSTEM it was not reported by western media. the way it shot down the jet is very interesting and as far as i am concerned is possible. first an SA-9 and an SA-2 was fired. this was only a ruse to occupy the ECM of the F16, the F16 ECM as expected initiated its counter measures to the incoming SAMs. basically what the Syrians did was to get the F16 jammers (PART OF ECM) attention by illuminating it with older generation SAMs and as expected the F16s jammers prioritized these (less potent) threats starting with the closest one when a missile was fired from the S300 , lol the S300 shot down the jet. It is a classical case of HONEY TRAPPING via false (low potency) threats, with concurrent overwhelming of the defensive system so that the end game (high potency) missile gets its kill with high probability. nice way to set and spring a trap especially for an Israeli jet - no easy task. guess the Russians were behind it. Israeli PM after this had flown to Russia , and agreed not to breach Syrian airspace |

Syria Shoots Down Israeli Warplane F-16 Bomber, Using Russian S-300 Air Defense System The shooting down of an Israeli warplane by Syria has not been reported by Western and Israeli media sources. According to Sputnik, on August 21, “the Israeli Air Force resumed airstrikes on Western Syria, targeting a government army base at Khan Al-Sheih in Damascus province and another in the al-Quneitra province after a six-hour halt in attacks that followed their multiple air raids over the Golan Heights.” Fars News Agency (FNA) also confirmed the Israeli attacks and the shooting down of an Israeli fighter plane The Syrian air defense system shot down an Israeli warplane violating the Arab country’s air space. The Israeli fighter jet was targeted over the city of Al-Quneitra on Friday. Israel regularly violates the Syrian airspace and it launches missile attacks against the Arab country. On Friday, the Israeli Air Force resumed airstrikes on Western Syria, targeting Brigade 68 Base in Khan Al-Sheih in Damascus province and Brigade 90 Base in the al-Quneitra province after a six hour halt in attacks that followed their multiple air raids over the Golan Heights. Yesterday, Friday, August 21, 2015 in the early hours, Damascus time, an Israeli US made F-16 fighter-bomber, flew into Syrian airspace brazenly and fired at Brigade 68 and, then, turned and flew back toward Brigade 90 in Qunaytra in order to insure a safe landing in occupied Palestine if the aircraft was struck. It was struck. An SA-9 from the Iftiraas Air Defense Base and an SA-2 near the Khalkhaala AB were fired. But, the technical wizardry was most on display when an S-300 (SA-10 “Grumble) super-air-defense missile was fired from the Republican Guard base near the Mazza AB at the foot of Qaasiyoon Mountain west of Damascus. This was done so that the F-16’s electronic countermeasures would first fix on the SA-2 and SA-9 while the S-300 plowed forward to exterminate the vermin inside the Israeli aircraft. The S-300 vaporized the Israeli bomber. No evidence was seen of the pilot ejecting. Instead, eyewitness accounts described a ball of fire over the Golan and the remains scattering into the air over the Huleh Valley in Palestine. Also, the Israelis lost 2 helicopters while flying missions over the Golan Heights in an effort to bolster the sagging morale of the Takfiri rats of Nusra/Alqaeda and Al-Ittihaad Al-Islaami li-Ajnaad Al-Shaam. The 2 helicopters went down over the area near Qunaytra City and were reportedly shot down by shoulder fired, heat-seeking missiles deployed throughout the Syrian Army. Syria’s Right to Self Defense It had to happen, sooner or later. The seeming diffidence of the Syrian brass had to transform into a bolder and more pugnacious articulation of Syria’s right to self-defense. With Russia now inevitably bound to the Syrian government for reasons discussed at length on our website; and Iran, now dazzled by a new role to play in regional politics; the green light turned on, finally, with Moscow withdrawing all restrictions on the use of advanced weaponry sold to the Syrian military. If you want to know what the former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Martin Dempsey, meant when he told Congress Syria had a “robust air defense system”, the Zionists just found out for themselves. Yesterday, there was despondence after Israel assaulted Qunaytra and killed civilians seated in a public vehicle. The Israelis also killed one Syrian soldier and wounded several others in the Brigade 68 base. But, the Syrian Army Chief of Staff, in consultation with the president and the Defense Minister, had no intention of letting this episode slide by especially in light of President Putin’s recent meeting with the Turkish ambassador in Moscow during which he flatly told the diplomat that relations with Turkey would be severed if Erdoghan did not stop supporting terrorism. It also came just after Sergei Lavrov called the Saudi foreign minister an “slowpoke” just as the latter was renouncing any intention to treat with the Syrian government. There is a new belligerency in both Moscow and Teheran and it is being translated into action over Syria. |

The Pakistani claimed US made use of terrain masking to access Islamabad. Nemesis what's your opinion? Terrain masking refers to a method of avoiding detection by radar, typically early warning radars or surface-to-air missiles. Essentially it consists of having the aircraft fly close enough to the ground that local terrain like hills and valleys block the line of sight between the aircraft and the radar, rendering the aircraft invisible. |

Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Nobody: 4:36pm On Oct 27, 2016 |
tdayof: lolzzzz the government of the last 10 years almost killed the air force. present strength is around 30 squadrons , officially sanctioned strength is 42 squadrons while air force requirement is for 55 squadrons. within 5 years 10 squadrons will go out of action without any immediate replacement. therefor there r talks of another restricted tender for light weight single engine fighters for 12 billion dollars . for these there r 2 contenders F16V and Gripen E around 120+ of them. these are in addition to the 40 LCA + 100 LCAMK1A ordered + another 200 LCAMK1A (unconfirmed) + 200-300 LCAMK2 (unconfirmed) production rate of LCA is 8 per annum shortly it will be 16 per annum which is too few . so long story short indian air force needs to do what ur trying to do personally i think along with the jf17 NAF should buy 12+ tucanos . it will double up as 2nd stage trainer, a step higher than the super mushak which will act as a 1st stage basic trainer. super mushak will teach the rookies basic flying skills only while the tucanos with the MFDS and weapons delivery capability will teach the advanced skills of combat maneuvering and weapons delivery. it will shorten the training time required for advanced fling skill in intermediate jet trainers and LIFTS (lead in fighter trainers). pros : less time spent in training, very cost effective biggest advantage will be the use of tucanos in COIN ops from unprepared fields with zero maintenance facilities with minimal costs. it will basically be an army asset managed by the air force . on call 24 hr from FOBs directed by army FCO (fire control officers) something which cannot be done with fighter jets without the penalty of huge financial/asset infusion. a quick response force to be precise which can be redirected within minutes of finishing the previous missions. BH will completely loose control to dominate the ground but pockets of them will exist inside and outside nigeria, engaging in hit and run tactics , so only way these can be interdicted will be through these tucanos , also helicopters r heavy on maintenance and take time to reach their area of ops in time. the recent failures in niger where army FOBs got wiped out , could have been saved if tucanos have been pressed in to service as a QRCF asset. 1 Like |
