illmatic101: LOL It sounds easy until it comes to changing the sensor. Overall, you need a good experienced mechanic. I have taken cars to a dealership where their so-called licensed mechanics could not figure it out even with all the high end tools at their disposal. The problem is that some apprentices run away from their masters after about 2 years without completing the training. He will set up shop and claim to be a knowledgeable mechanic until you entrust your vehicle to him. Also, I found out that a lot of people drive cars in Nigeria without the slightest clues about cars. Then they wonder why quack mechanics take them on merry-go-round. Just like in any profession, there are good and bad ones. Heck! There are surgeons you wouldn't want in the theater near your loved ones. 1 Like |

Like who cares? Can you perfectly fix my car is the question here. Doesn't matter if educated or not. what's the essence of your education if you eat and drop wraps on the street and an uneducated still be the one to sweep them off? |

Each to some extent has an edge. An uneducated mechanic that has been in d biz, and has enough knowledge to gain mastery in his art is good. An educated mechanic that has also been in the biz, and has enough knowledge to gain mastery in his art is definitely better. If u carry ur moto go give one fine boy like dat because he just graduated from skul with a first class degree in mechanical engineering, bros u de find trouble. Experience matters. |

femmykenny:Honestly there is no need for comparison btw d educated and uneducated mechanic coz there is a wide gap. Uneducated mechanic can kill u unknowingly coz he lacks knowledge, forget experience such uneducated might have,it doesn't count. I took my car to my old mechanic for ordinary servicing, guess what happened after servicing,d car refused to start and d car need to spend 2 days in d workshop, something just tell me to Google and Google told me d oil filter was wrongly fixed. I went to my mechanic and told him to check d fixing of oil filter, honestly d oil filter was wrongly fixed. It was after refix that d car start. |

I use two mechanics. One educated who works on the engine and the order not educated who does the electrical work. I like the uneducated one more cos when I call him to work on my car he even does the one I didn't send him. Lol. He ensures that every thing is checked and working and can price spare parts like a woman pricing tomatoes. The educated one is real ajebo. To come wahala, Oya fix this. He will fix it and then two weeks later something else spoils. When I complain he will say he saw it but since I didn't mention it he didn't try to fix it. Also instead of him to go to Ladipo to buy parts he buys them from resellers around him for a higher price. But I must confess he is good with engines. |

GAZZUZZ: Bro, I salute you o! But free scan is not enough to be awoof na.. Just add one free service or even epp the guy rotate ehn tyres.. Meanwhile, since i have your attention, I have an 05 Honda City that keeps having ignition issues. You can drive the car all day today without wahala, park it for 1 minute, return and kick it and would not even as much as cough. Leav it for like 1 hour, return and kick it again and it would just start. I know its not the batteries as I just changed them. I know its not the alternator as that one is working well. I know its not the kick started as I also just recently changed em. I was told by Honda place a while back to change a 'gear cable' which I did but the problem still persists.. Sometimes I have to move the gear to neutral for the engine to start. Other times, that trick does not work. Any advise? Free one o!! AT topic:: Mechanic na Mechanic.. But I prefer to go with educated mechanics with established garages because their repairs comes with a 3 - 6 months warranty and if the problem persists, I can always go back to them to fix it free of cost. 1 Like |

illmatic101: (educated mechanic) did you read this part in the paragraph (The car is currently with my auto-electrician (Very educated Auto-electrician) who said something needs to be changed in the gear. He said the speed sensor (which is perfectly ok) is not being turned by the gear and hence speedometer still stagnant at zero reading. When he turned the speed sensor with his fingers, the speedometer responded but when connected to the gear, it remains stagnant. He has checked everything every other electrical faults/signal/sensor that may be responsible but none of this seem to be the problem.[s][/s]) |

muller101:Yes I stand by it ,I don't need to edit it cos I know what I am saying ,though u might have gotten bad experience with some certain individual that act educated with nothing upstairs ,That doesn't go against the fact that there are some area in car repair that if you are not educated u can't do any thing except to guess. Modern cars give out data which u can collate with your scan tool that you will need to make analysis from ,to make accurate analysis ,your knowledge of physical science most be sound ,infact u must be a A1 physics student to understand some.Th educates ones are still struggling to understand all this concept ,so where does the illiterate ones now come in . |

GAZZUZZ: lol.. The Hyundai isn't a freebie request.. I just wanted to know if you fixed that brand so I could bring to you for a check up and a quote to bring her back to her old self again. She generally has no real problems, but I have been working out of Port Harcourt for over a year now and have barely driven her. In that time, being parked under the sun, the dash cracked up, my power Windows got bad, e.t.c... I just don't feel comfortable driving her around anymore. I am looking for a good reliable mechanic that can fix her up real good without charging me Stallion Motors money. Do you fix that brand? If not, then its cool. |

lonelydude: You have been rolling with QUACKS. Educated or Non Educated. A professional is a professional. FORD was not educated but invented ford motors. Nothing pains me like quacks handling any of my jobs, that is why i know a little about everything. From design to construction to auto diagnosis. The guy who fixes all the Lexus, Landcruiser, Prado and Hilux in my state governor's convoy is not a graduate. |

I think Op means a certified mechanic. From the write up it seems the topic came up because the certified mechanic installed the new engine but the car still did not drive well. I am guessing he was told there is a problem with the gearbox as well but said it was OK (because he can drive the car)....the reason why he did not return to the mechanic after discovering the problem. Untrained mechanics do not get to the root of a problem.... they treat the symptoms and that treatment usually cause other problems. If you can't afford a certified mechanic....it is better to park the car until you can. 1 Like |
