MikeCZA: Take several seats with your Mwari! There's no way a slow single engined low payload would be used for anything but poaching/border watch ops!! Chinese8107,hold your peace, please. there are many similiar aircrafts like Pucara to chose from . Nemesis2u,as I thought you're the only one who could attempt what I'm looking for. If its not too much trouble could you attempt a ball park figure for this redesigned Pucara with the new parameters? Thanks. |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by MikeCZA: 7:52pm On Oct 29, 2016 |
kikuyu1:It's performance is competitive with aircraft within it's class like Brazilian Super Tucano. Both are powered by a single Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engine. The Pucara is powered two less powerful engines. Planned upgrades includes using P & W engines. Regarding payload the Argentine aircraft is only rated at + 6G. The other two aircraft have 5-6 hard points. The Mwari and the Super Tucano will have better sensor systems, EW suites, weapons etc Remember the Rhodesian Lynx aircraft? It is similar(To the Mwari) in design with twin tail booms. Used effectively in light strikes, counter insurgency, airborne communications relay, over watch etc. Armed with rockets, bombs (napalm, cluster etc), Twin 7,7mm machine guns etc. The small arms danger is reduced by the aircraft's capability to carry missiles and smart bombs with a bit of stand off range(4km+). |

MikeCZA: I think the hardest thing is the price, having smart muniton or not is an option, but with $ USD 5-7.5 mn price range and 3 tons payload, very little country can make this. Antonov An-2 An-3,Chinese Y-5 is cheap but payload not enough ,needs to upgrade to use composite material add some contermeasures against MANPADS. the same as Pucara. It won't be easy,as new plane needs lot of tests, adding to the cost.it's like re-design a plane The Austria Diamond DART450 is good trainer but payload not enough for COIN.This company has good experience making civilian air craft but not many expericence making military plane.it does not have to as civilian plane is their biggest market.if they want to enter militray plane field, they have to find partner.. |

MikeCZA:I am an observer only North Korea An-2 an acient antique still in service firing rockets ,machine guns, barrel bombs.or deliver special forces troops behind enemy lines for sabotage not including harbin Y-5 at least 18000 units built, probably the most built in history.

when south africa deployed its Gripen jets in uganda during the CAR incident, how could they south african's known if chads had also deployed its MIG-29's near its border with CAR |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Nobody: 7:15pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
africaken254: SANDF Gripen jets were deployed after they had be completely routed by the rebels in the CAR. There was also no way for Chad to have deployed any jets to it's border. The Tchadians had internal insurrections to deal with. |

"what your telling us is nigeria can't acquire this plane costing $80 million and with a operating cost of $2,000 per hour" What Patchesagain is saying is, Nigeria has other requirements to deal with, spending $80 million on a plane that is not needed is borderline madness, when troops require basic requirements. @Africaken254 1 Like |

africaken254: We wouldn't have known. However, Chad wasn't gonna get involved in the conflict directly. Remember this, Chadian SF were disguised as normal Seleka militia for obvious reasons. Having your valuable the Mig 29s (only 3 in total) going against the 4 Gripens is risky at all levels. |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Nobody: 7:31pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
tdayof: MI-35M which we are getting 12 examples of, cost $12 million a unit. It is also a proven and an advanced platform. The Z-10 on the other hand is an Unknown platform, modern but unknown. |

Henry240:so you dont have any other requirement that the $ 550 millions being used to purchase those satellite could be used for, dont tell me they are necessary.you could easily lease services from other satellite providers for a cheaper price |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by Nobody: 7:38pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
africaken254: We are buying those satellites because Nigeria requires those satellites for growth. Have you seen the economy of Lagos? The country requires these systems for those areas Main one and Glo1 fiber optic cables cannot reach. We cannot sacrifice economic growth for weapons, it makes no sense. Neither can we use leased satellites to transfer classified data. I don't see how an AWACS is a requirement for any country in SSA, the enemy is on the ground, not in the air. 2 Likes |

ActivateKruger:the Chadians would have used their own radars stations across the border to guild their Migs-29,who would have warned your gripens jet while on bombing run against seleka that some Migs were hunting them or you want to tell me that the limited gripen radar coverage of 4 gripens would have being sufficient ! |
Re: Technical Discussions On International Military Equipments Doctrines Tactics Etc by overhypedsteve(m): 7:41pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
africaken254:hmm.using leased satellites to transfer sensitive informations on national security, national emergency action plan, identities of officials in the foreign service and secret service. Hmm I think it is a good idea, For Kenyans. Here in Nigeria we ve seen what it means to be compromised. In 1984 members of the Nigerian secret service along with agents from the Isreali MOSSAD undertook an operation in British soil. The target was Umaru Dikko a total Scum Bag. The operation failed and it was time for the Nigerian government and the Israeli government to deny their assets in the hands of the British Government. Isreal denied their MOSSAD agents in the field and requested that they be repatriated on grounds that they were Israeli citizens bit Nigeria couldn't deny anybody because the person they called secret service had their information's in the British interagency fact book as Nigerian government officials. Never again would that happen. 1 Like |

africaken254: The MiG 29 is a limited platform that's why Hungary ditched it for the Gripen. If the two had to go head-on, the Gripen has a smaller radar signature so the radars on the MiGs wouldn't have detected it until halfway. That means the Gripen would know about the MiGs way before the MiGs knew about the Gripen.... So it would have been on the SAAF command to engage first or avoid. If it was to engage, the Gripen comes with EW, modern radar jammers in comparison to the MiGs so all their missiles would be jammed without counter measures and that would have been the end of the the MiGs. |

lionel4power:Buying a few AWACS isn't going to fill any loop holes in your radar coverage!! AWACS are offensive weapons deployed in active combat situations and not intended to defend your entire country's airspace........That's what fixed grounded based Radars are for and to some extent mobile ground based radars. Excluding the wide array of Ground Based Radars operated by SAAF, its also supplemented by all of our international and national airport radars(which we have over550 of) as well as 12 state of the art doppler radars operated by the SA weather service....All of these radar systems are also LinkZA compatible.........If so much as a drop of water enters our airspace we would know about it!! Yes AWACS would definitely help fight Boko Harm, but much cheaper mobile ground based radar would be just as effective! 2 Likes |
