Good question. I have always maintained that most of the Benin tradition and history is based on falsehood. The most outlandish is the falsehood that the Oba of Benin is not Yoruba and originally from ile Ife
[s][/s]

Stop being garrulous with your ridiculous inanities all over here. The press statement of course is unappealing to every sane resident of Benin city especially those who have burial ceremonies already planned. But for you to bring in irrelevant issues into this is irritating. Grow up!

is this one a monarchictatorship or what? this is simply wrong. even the Queen of England doesn't have such powers.

Even the Olu of Warri's demise last year didn't let for anyone raise any canopy to celebrate anything from about August till December. My mom couldn't get job to do her catering in the town for more than 2months. All these over hyped thrones built to keep the people in bondage.

The Oba must be high on ikoriko weed. Will he pay for the days a corpse will spend in mortuary or embalming? I dare any reasonable Edo indigene to bury their corpse and sue his ass in court. In my area a monarch died and the old cargo chiefs declared a curfew for Oro festival. Ambode warned them not to try that nonsense in his state...but Oshiomhole can't talk because the Oba helped him rigged the election
first off, I am amazed at how certain people wrap politics around everything.
secondly, whoever acts against the order may not live long enough to take him to court. Benin people bad ooo

It is. But trust our people to defend it in the name of culture. That is the way we are.

Ambode did that? Where? That man keeps earning my respect! Yet the Benin king is a former ambassador who has travelled wide. You can take a camel to the river. . .

Respect tradition.

The Oba must help the poor in his community and develop the area. in order 2 gain real respect.

And also build shrines and spread the faith of the ancestors.
You think it's okay for the king to ban burial for many moons? You think this yeye stipulation comes from the gods?
Re: No Burial In Benin Kingdom Till January 2017- Oba Of Benin by duro4chang(m): 10:37pm On Oct 29, 2016
Hmmmm. It means nobody should die until that time.If somebody dies and the relatives has no money to keep the decease in the mortuary then what will happen? Perhaps the corpse will be taken to the nearby state for burial. This aspect of our culture should be abolished. The big big pastors will not complain about this now.

Mk the oba sef no die b4 then cos them no go burry am too

Lol. I know English is not our mother tongue. But it is not forbidden to bury or inter people who have died. Only the dance, party and elaborate owambe that is forbidden and it has been so for centuries. Some discard their culture, others keep theirs.

Not even that those who discarded their tradition in the name of aping oyinbo have turned into Dubai.

Without this palace order, people in Benin already routinely put corpses in mortuary for up to a year to plan an elaborate funeral. It makes no difference.

A Muslim would have no problem with their simple funeral.

MAYOWAAK:
The Story of three foolish men - Arajamasanwo, Afipagbaowo and Aworanku.

First man – Arajamasanwo (The man who buys stuffs and would not pay)
Second Man – Afipagbaowo (The man who collects his money by force)
Third Man – Aworanku (The man who ensures to see the end of every story)

It so happens that Arajamasanwo bought some wares from Afipagbaowo, and as his habit, he refused to pay.

Afipagbaowo, a man known for always collecting his money at all cost engaged Arajamasanwo in a fight to collect his money.
In the ensuing fracas Afipagbaowo dealt a fatal blow on Arajamasanwo, and Arajamasanwo died.

Afipagbaowo was devastated on the thought that the money owed is forever lost, he vowed to collect his money at all cost even if it has to be in the spirit world, he picked up a knife and killed himself.

All along Aworanku who has been watching the event as it unfolds was saddened. He couldn’t bear the possibility of him not knowing the final outcome of the fracas. He was hell bent on knowing what would happen between Arajamasanwo and Afipagbaowo in the spirit world.
To avoid missing any action, Aworanku quickly picked up a knife and killed himself....

Welcome to Nigeria ....

Political thieves becoming Arajamasanwo
PMB's government becoming Afipagbaowo
The citizens becoming Aworanku

Those names shaa. It chokes...

Which history? The failed attempt at rewriting history by the late Oba whose son is reading from the same script written by his own late father. Thank God the head of his forebears are still resting in Ile Ife and that's the real history you liars couldn't rewrite grin
Ooni was just laughing at a small king forming big. The Benin history and traditions is full of lies. Even the press release itself says much of this lies because the coronation planning committee relied on tradition to give permission to people to bury their dead now another set is saying it's a taboo.Who is right and who is wrong? young man keep quiet before something you can't explain happens to you, typical example of how people cause misfortunes for them selves without even knowing, don't dare compare your politically appointed or elected Oba to the Great Oba of Benin Kingdom. No one flouts his orders and go Scot free, even religious leaders in Benin know this and wouldn't dare him.
Bt one Oba fell from his throne when Idahosa went there. I hear am ni ooo. grin grin
