OdenigboAroli: I have zero doubt in Mikel and he will make a perfect addition to our passing middle. From Ndidi to Iheanacho. All make intelligent passes. I can consider Ideye but, Iheanacho, Mikel Iwobi centrally is too dangerous for any side. |

Ifeanyi Matthew's Norwegian club escape relegation Ifeanyi Matthew (right) The club of Nigeria midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew have finally secured their place in the Norwegian top flight after they beat Molde 1-0 at home on final day of the season. The hard-fought home win saw Lillestrom finish on 34 points to finish above closest rivals Tromso, who posted a big 3-1 win over Odd. Stabaek battered bottom club IK Start 3-0, who have been automatically demoted to the lower league along with Bodo-Glimt after they lost 2-1 at Rosenborg. Stabaek will feature in the relegation-promotion playoffs. Both Ifeanyi Matthew and compatriot Innocent Bonke played from start to finish in a game, which had a lot riding on it. Ifeanyi Matthew was denied a goal when his goal-bound shot crashed against the crossbar. http://africanfootball.com/news/662080/Ifeanyi-Matthew-s-Norwegian-club-escape-relegation 1 Like |

Iheanacho, Iwobi, Musa Mohammed hit Eagles camp Musa Mohammed (right) with Alex Iwobi already in Eagles camp vs Algeria English Premier League stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi as well as Turkey-based defender Musa Mohammed are the first set of players to hit the Eagles training camp for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria. Arsenal forward Iwobi has proved to be one of the early birds at the Eagles camp and he is often accompanied to Nigeria by his father, Chuka. The training camp in Abuja officially opened today and the squad are expected to depart for match venue Uyo on Thursday. It will be the same day Algeria will land in Uyo on board a chartered flight. Officials disclose that the bulk of the 23-man squad will be in camp today for training to begin Tuesday morning. They are expected to train twice daily. Nigeria are top of their qualifying table after they beat hosts Zambia 2-1 in Ndola last month and Algeria were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Cameroon. http://africanfootball.com/news/662277/Iheanacho-Iwobi-Musa-Mohammed-hit-Eagles-camp 1 Like |

Alampasu Could Be In Goal Against Algeria As Rohr Once Confessed His Lack Of Trust In Ezenwa As Nigerians wait anxiously to see who will be in goal for the Super Eagles against Algeria in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers this weekend in Uyo, Dele Alampasu could be handed his debut by the coach Gernot Rohr if he impresses the technical crew during training. Although FC Ifeanyi Uba shot stopper Ikechukwu Ezenwa is the favorite to be between the post in the absence of first choice stopper Carl Ikeme, but Alampasu could force his way into the starting line up as the manager has in the past voiced his lack of confidence in Ezenwa’s ability. Three weeks ago during a press conference, Rohr said that the reason why he needs Vincent Enyeama to come out of retirement is because he doesn’t entirely trust Ikeme’s deputy, and back then Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Emmanuel Daniel were back up to the Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper. When asked if the Super Eagles still need Enyeama owing to the goal performance of Carl, he said, “Yes, I said it that I wanted Vincent Enyeama to return from retirement and I called him and we spoke with him. He will come back if we qualify for the World Cup.” “We need very good goalkeepers in the Eagles. We have two local goalkeepers whom I don’t know if they will fit in if Carl sustains an injury, so I think we need two big goalkeepers. Of course for this moment, Carl is number one. We cannot change him, he will be number one for the next game,” Rohr said. Chippa United ace Daniel Akpeyi who also has national team experience with six senior caps to his name is also in with a shout to be named as the goalkepper for the Algeria tie judging by Rohr’s statement. http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/11/07/alampasu-could-be-in-goal-against-algeria-as-rohr-once-confessed-his-lack-of-trust-in-ezenwa/ 1 Like |

***#OppositionWatch#*** Algeria Hand Late Call-Ups To Arsenal Wonderkid Bennacer, Two Others Ahead Of Trip To Nigeria Algeria national team coach Georges Leekens has handed late call-ups to three players following the withdrawal of Dinamo Zagreb striker El Arabi Hillel Soudani, Lyon star Rachid Ghezzal and Montpellier winger Ryad Boudebouz from the squad as a result of injury. The three invited players are Baghdad Bounedjah (Al Sadd SC, Qatar), Ismaël Bennacer (Arsenal) and Yassine Benzia (Lille). In-form Bordeaux attacking midfielder Adam Ounas, who previously played for France youth team, earlier withdrew from the squad after picking up an injury. The 18-year-old Ismaël Bennacer represented France at U18 and U19 level before he committed his international future to the Desert Foxes. He made his first team debut for Arsenal in a League Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015. Igho Kingsley http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=20996 |

Chelsea Wing-Back Moses Gives Assurance That He Will Fly To Abuja Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses has promised that he will not reject his call-up for the World Cup qualifying match with Algeria on Saturday, November 12. Super Eagles manager Rohr has given Moses the benefit of the doubt and recalled him to the national team for the game with the North Africans, amid speculations in the local media that he faked an injury which ruled him out of the opener against Zambia. Moses’s camp has confirmed that he will be in Abuja and that statement has been echoed by Nigeria Football Federation officials. The former England U17 star has not played for the Super Eagles since September 3 when he lasted 84 minutes on the pitch in an African Nations Cup qualifier versus Tanzania. http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=20995 Allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles captain Musa Mohammed, goalkeepers Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa have joined the Super Eagles at their Bolton White Hotel Camp. Therefore, the only invited goalkeeper still being expected is CD Feirense loanee Dele Alampasu but there is nothing to worry about as he’s expected to arrive in Abuja along with teammate Oghenekaro Etebo at 2000 hours on Monday. İstanbul Başakşehir defender Musa Mohammed must do justice to himself when training starts later today because he has not featured for his Turkish club this season and will come under intense scrutiny from manager Rohr. On the other hand, Ezenwa has not played competitively for more than one month since the end of the Nigeria Professional Football League and may be lacking match fitness. The same cannot be said for Akpeyi, who was in between the pipes for Chippa United this past week. Ifeanyi Emmanuel http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=20993 1 Like |

LILLESTROM BOSS: IFEANYI MATTHEW OUR NEXT BIG EXPORT TO EUROPE TOP LEAGUE Lillestrom sports director Torgeir Bjarmann being interviewed by Kola Daniel Lillestrom sports director Torgeir Bjarmann has predicted Nigeria midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew will be the Norwegian club’s next big export to a top league in Europe. On Sunday, the Oslo-based club escaped relegation from the Norwegian top league with Ifeanyi Matthew again playing a big part for them to beat Molde 1-0 at home to ensure their safety. In the summer, the former Kano Pillars and El Kanemi Warriors star signed a four-year contract with Lillestrom and he has gone on to play eight matches, scoring two goals this past season. “He is a fantastic player and he will be our next big export to the top league in Europe,” raved the Lillestrom top official “It took Ifeanyi Matthew a month to be ready for our first team and now he is a regular in the team and he will be the next big success for Lillestrom." Lillestrom have been very successful in grooming Nigerian talent for the top leagues in Europe –Nosa Igiebor (from Israel and later La Liga), Fred Friday (to Dutch league), Anthony Ujah (German Bundesliga). Bjarmann said this has been possible because they are ready to be patient with the players to fit into a new way of life and style of football. “Lillestrom are very patient with Nigerian players because it will take some time with their integration, the weather is quite colder and the style of football is also different,” said the former defender, who also worked with Mikel Obi and Chinedu Obasi at Lyn Oslo. “Norwegian is a lot more direct, not like you have in Nigeria. You have to be strong, smart, you have to be more tactically aware and play the way the coach wants you to play. “But we also try to let them be themselves while trying to get them to play in the European style.” He added: "There is a lot of talent and potentials in Nigeria but the way of playing is 100% different from we play in Norway. “We are always looking for players with the X- factor, something special.” He attributed their struggle against relegation this past season to problems in defence. “We struggled a lot in the second half of the season, but we were one of the three top-scoring teams in the top league, but we conceded too many goals at the back,” he said. Iwobi's Pure Talent - Oliseh Augustine Akhilomen [img][/img] Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh believes Alex Iwobi possesses a quality that will take him to the top in the nearest future for both club and country. The youngster, who has been listed among the 23-man squad that will battle the Desert Foxes of Algeria on November 12 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, has become a great asset for Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger since his promotion to the senior team last year. Oliseh made this assertion after Iwobi shone like a million stars in Arsenal's 1-1 draw against Tottenham in Sunday's London derby at the Emirates Stadium. TheGoodJoe:If it's choice between Ndidi, John Ogu and Eddy. I think John Ogu could be better when playing out from the back... His pass % stands at 84% from 59 passes, while Ndidi has 74% from 51 passes. Also let's not be top quick to push Onazi out. This team is used to playing with Onazi, he has the confidence of the defenders and the other midfielders. His partnership with Mikel haven't been so bad over the years. We must be careful not to tweeker too much with the team dynamics. Its very important. Just saying... |

goldfish80: Just had to add my voice here about Onazi. Onazi and Mikel have both combined briliantly when we have another midfielder in a 4-3-3 formation which Keshi used, first it was Mba and then Babatunde, but the AMF we are using these days plays more like a Suport Striker than an actual AMF so the imbalance is there. If we had another midfielder in there, maybe Aluko for example who will fall back to defend or who moves with the ball then Onazi will start with Mikel, but recently it is usually just Mikel and Onazi in the middle and this has exposed Onazi's defencies, the results? 2 failed Afcon qualifying campaigns, so it's time for an upgrade. I always make reference to what someone said here not long ago, if we are going to play a 3 man midfield then I don't have any problem with Onazi, he called it a marker-ball carrier-runner system or so, but if we have basically 2 persons in midfield then Onazi won't work, his passing abilities is just too poor. A DMF is a position that does not really need 'trust', if a CB gets the ball, there is no other passing outlet for him na,he must pass to the DMF 1 Like |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 5:46pm On Nov 07, 2016 |
tbaba1234: yes they absolutely can. If we were to play a 4-3-3, the midfield will be basically Ndidi as a DMF, Onazi as the CMF that does all the running and Mikel as AMF. In this way, whenever Onazi employs his marking abilities and wins the ball he will always have someone close by who will literally take the ball off his feet so he makes no mistakes, if he wins it near our box, Ndidi will collect it from him straight, if he wins it further upfield, Mikel collects it. Basically he will told to run around like crazy and win possession and just drop the ball when he wins possession which is literally what he does now. But if our coach isn't sold on the idea then Ndidi should be starting ahead of Onazi as our DMF anyday of the week and twice on saturdays |

Mickael2: I don't agree that our failures to qualify was just because of Mikel-Onazi combo.. I believe that it is a combo that can work well. Onazi is not that terrible a passer. He has better passing stats than Ndidi. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 5:59pm On Nov 07, 2016 |
tbaba1234: Onazi has better passing stats that Ndidi where and when? I will assume that you made a mistake there. It wasn't 'just' because of that, we had NFF issues too but it wasn't as if we were playing good football on the field at all, so they do share a bulk of the blame. Midfield is the base, we werent creating chances, we weren't dominating teams even Tanzania |

Mickael2: These are the passing stats of Onazi, Ndidi and Ogu. Ogu has the best passing stats. Ndidi uses more of long balls Onazi has a higher passing % than Ndidi.

tbaba1234: how convenient of you to use the Europa league alone for Ndidi while you used the entire league ratings for Onazi. Do not forget that the Europa league isn't easy and that he has had to play 180 mins out of the 360 minutes there against Athletic Bilbao. Please, look for the complete stats, last I checked it, Ndidi was closer to 87 and not 70 1 Like |

Mickael2: Your points are well noted. But you have to factor in that Rohrs favoured formation is 4-2-3-1 formation. Which is the German national team's formation. Its not strange for Rohr who has worked within the DFB setup for a while to employ this formation. Coming to the midfield analysis in this formation, it requires a double pivot of a play maker and a runner. Germany played with Schweinsteiger as the deeplying playmaker while Sammy Khediera is the runner.... Shweinsteiger is required to recycle the ball and hit long passes to the wingers and forward runners to setup a lightning quick counter. While Khediera presses high up the field and distrups the opposition from getting to mark out Shweinsteiger, just like Gattuso used to do for Pirlo and later Vidal at Juve. The Germans really on Khediera's incredible big engine to drive them from midfield. Midnight you, Kross can do same job Shweinsteiger used to do. Coming to Nigeria, Onazi could just be our Khediera while Mikel our Shweinsteiger. With either Iwobi or Etebo playing the Ozil role. In this role, onazi doesn't really require to be a pass master since he has a Mikel playing beside him. His job will be to take away markers from Mikel, while Obi sets attacks from deep... Just like Onazi, Khediera is not a pass master but he uses his energy to steam role teams. Alot of teams who play 4-2-3-1 formation most times have a player who is limited in passing range in a double Pivot. Just like Arsenal plays with Carzola the deep lying playmaker and Couqline the energetic but limited passer. Let's not throw Onazi away yet. He could add alot to the team in a dual pivot role. |
