LTGEN: NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES TO STRENGTHEN MILITARY RELATIONSHIP WITH UKRAINE defencehq November 10, 2016 101 Views The Nigerian Military has expressed its readiness to partner with the Ukrainian government in the areas of Military technology and equipment. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin made this known on Wednesday when the Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria, Dr. Valerii Aleksandruk visited him at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. The CDS noted that it is the policy of Nigeria to deal directly with governments of countries where it has any interest and promised to study the business proposal submitted by the Ambassador on behalf of Ukrainian companies and take stock of areas of interest to the Military. Speaking earlier, Ambassador Aleksandruk commended the already existing Nigeria-Ukraine bilateral relationship and asked for it to be further strengthened especially in the areas of Military and education. While submitting a business proposal to the CDS, the diplomat disclosed the readiness of Ukrainian companies which produces Military hardware to make presentations to the Nigerian Armed Forces on equipment that will help Nigeria in its fight against terrorism. He said the companies are ready to transfer some technology to Nigeria and make it a hub to West Africa and other African countries. |

jteku: The Igirigi is an example of the reason why the government shouldn't be making stuff. Production of military equipment should be private sector lead. Production of the Igirigi has ceased. The army is currently concentrating on the Ara MRAP from Proforce. I'm also sure Proforce would also deliver an LAV in the class of the Igirigi to the army, it's an easy build. We could also see an LAV in the same class from Innoson motors. |

A former US state department top expert on Nigeria
has asked the American government not to sell 12
warplanes worth $500 million to the Muhammadu
Buhari administration.
TheCable understands that the order for 12 A-29 Super
Tucano light attack aircraft was to enable the Nigerian
military to “finish off” Boko Haram insurgents who are
still operating in Borno state.
But Matthew Page, writing in War on The Rocks, an
online policy discussion platform, accused the Buhari
government of violating human rights and misplacing
his priorities.
He also alleged that the Nigeria air force officer who
went to the US to negotiate the contract in July 2015
“has since been charged with corruption”.
Page wrote: “The Department of Defense will soon
notify Congress it plans to sell 12 A-29 Super Tucano
light attack aircraft to Nigeria. Both countries hope that
the propeller-driven warplanes — tailored for
counterinsurgency operations — will bolster Nigerian
efforts to combat Boko Haram, one of the world’s
deadliest terrorist groups. U.S. policymakers also
want the sale to be a visible symbol of their strong
desire to do more to help Nigeria combat terrorism.
“Unfortunately, the sale will be a Pyrrhic victory for five
reasons: It is way too expensive, it undermines U.S.
corruption policy, it overlooks recent human rights
abuses, it won’t help Nigeria fight the Boko Haram of
tomorrow, and it won’t foster closer defense
cooperation.”
According to Page, who co-authored a forthcoming
book, ‘Nigeria: What Everyone Needs to Know’, the
country should be encouraged to buy a squadron of
Brazilian-American turbo-props which are “way
cheaper”.
“[$500 million] could, for example, buy twice as many
MI-35M (Hind E) Russian-made attack helicopters,” he
further suggested.
Here are his five reasons..... READ MORE ON THE LINK BELOW

I don't know much of the military, but I believe there should be cheaper options which can still do the job. 500 mil dollar's is just way too much |

U09ce: There's nothing confirmed on the Tucano yet. We have only made it open that we want the aircraft, we also know we want 12 units. However the deal is subject to US Congress approval. Here's what is confirmed, -12 × MI -35m - 6 × MI-17 terminator - jf-17 undisclosed (20 speculated) - Yahbon flash -20 (5 speculated) On the cost, it would not be up to 500 million, that's a figment of that reporters imagination. However any figure would include cost of aircraft, training of pilots and ground crew, ammo and infrastructure. |

Henry240:As Mr Henry has shown there are at least three active communications Systems which most likely have 'Frequency jumping system", These are some of the indirect procurements that were made after May 2015 I will not go the Political route. For those who want to believe no equipment was bought since 2015, good luck to you.The irony in the truth is the lack of attention to proper procurement has in the long term made Nigeria a better Country procurement wise. Things take much longer to procure because of the vetting process , but eventually it gets done, case in point the communication logistics. |
