Dangote!! Well, you can fool some of the people all the time, all of the people for some of the time but you cant fool all the people all the time. With govt monopolistic backing and ready access to funds, anybody can blow. His case doesn't amaze me. |

ephi123: You are the ones living in denial, you don't pay tax but you want a good country, you vote for criminals but you want good leaders, you don't participate in politics but you want good leaders, instead you are focused on Brexit and Hilary/Trump as if it affects your life one iota!! $175m was found inside accounts of your former 1st lady, that's enough to build 100Mw power station fix some of the roads you complain about, renovate MMa, Ph And Abuja Airports or even start a national carrier, instead your youths are protesting the fate of Tinubu, another crook, T.B Joshua's prophecy about Eledtions and Wole Soyinka's green card. You don't embrace your culture, you speak in foreign accents but you call yourselves giant of Africa, you don't invest long term but you expect sustainable development, everything you eat wear and consume is imported. Manufacturing is dominated by Indians and Lebanese, you don't complain but as soon as a Nigerian dominates a sector you start to complain. You call yourselves a nation of traders but you can't even start a chain of supermarkets, you have to wait for South Africans and Srilankans to develop supermarket chains for you. You spend all your money on Dstv, Dstv gives your money to premier league, they get richer and your local league gets poorer and then you complain that we don't do well in football competitions. You get an education but refuse to think, instead every sunday you pray for miracles and use all your education to donate your hard earned earnings to fraudulent pastors to enjoy the good life at your expense. You are the one of the worlds top Oil producers, working refinery you don't have, Infrastructure you don't have, No good roads, no good schools, no good hospitals, unemployable graduates, no industries, no power, no nothing....you can't even produce fuel!!!!!!. But you are one of the worlds top consumers of Champagne!!! Thank God we have Dangote, a man who doesn't think like the typical Nigerian because if not for him, Naira will be N5000 to a dollar within 3 years. Make no mistake about it, the only thing that will save the Naira is that Dangote had the foresight to start building a refinery before Oil collapsed. That refinery when it comes on stream will reduce the need to import fuel which is the biggest drain on our foreign reserves. Instead in typical Nigerian fashiopn you are green with envy!!! you would rather an Indian, Lebanese or Oyinbo controlled your economy. free yourself from your slave mentality. Nigeria and Brazil started their defense industries at the same time in 1960, today ours has collapsed and we are going to Brazil begging to buy ammunition to defend ourselves. Nobody is stopping you from starting your own, infact the govt in encouraging locals by giving Innoson contracts for army spare parts. Tomorrow if a Nigerian starts a defense manufacturing company and corners army contracts because there is nobody else , people like you will start complaining, you would rather we be slaves to the west and foreign powers than see a fellow Nigerian rewarded for taking risks. The problem with Nigeria are people like you who unfortunately are the majority!!! 4 Likes 4 Shares |

vodutive:God bless you! I feel very irritated when I see the sheer level of envy/jealousy, hate and pull-him-down mentality people express towards Dangote for daring to be a genius and a patriot. Dangote in a couple of years now would be the sole saviour of Nigeria's economy with his businesses. You keep hearing people say things like 'monopoly' and that he earned or through govt favoritism. But the question I always ask is, how come it is only Dangote who enjoys this favoritism from every successive Nigerian govt irrespective of tribe/region?... Is Dangote the only one who has enjoyed govt patronage?... where were other businessmen were when Dangote was rising to the top?... what did other business men do with their own govt patronage?... Probably they mostly prefered going into the oil business, specifically the importation of fuel and fraudulently cornering billions in subsidies to the destruction of Nigeria yet some bad-belle Nigerians int the typical pull-him-down mentality are angry with Dangote's progress. 2 Likes |

Spidermon:Is Dangote the only one who has received govt backing?.... What stops other businessmen from bribing govt too for favours?.. Shrewd businessmen all over the world lobby the govt to get favours, Nigeria isnt an exception. Dangote lobbies ANY GOVT IN POWER and by doing so, has earned the backing of every single govt in recent times. By being able to do that (irrespective of the govt), it means the man is genius for starters. But then again, there's something that makes him stand out; unlike the thousands of other businessmen who have also enjoyed govt backing, Dangote has been a mega-genius and a mega-patriot who has invested the favours he gets in improving Nigeria (unlike others who all scramble for petrol import license so they can steal subsidies to the detriment of Nigeria).. By 2019 when his mega-refinery starts, Dangote would single handedly overhaul Nigeria's economy without even stepping into govt. I see Nigeria's gdp doubling within few years and I see the Naira being restored instantly to less than N150 to $1; whoever is the president by 2019 would be the luckiest 'fluke' in Nigeria's history, thanks to Dangote. 4 Likes |

ephi123:"Great men become great while others sleep" The point is that everyone had an opportunity and one person was able to convert his opportunity to greatness. Now people beaf him for being 'too successful' and being a monopolist and these people wish him being pulled down to the level of others for the sake of 'equality'. I wouldn't even know whether hate or envy is the right word to describe this mentality. The main question however is, where were others while this man rose to his present level?.... Some claim he receives govt backing? .. is he the only one who receives govt backing?.... Businessmen the world over lobby govts for 'backing,' Nigeria isnt an exception and Dangote isnt the only one. So my question remains, "what did other businessmen do with their own govr backing?" |
Re: Dangote Pledges To Help FG Turn Around Nigeria’s Economy by ephi123(f): 10:03am On Nov 14, 2016 |
obailala: You obviously do not get the point at all. Businesses should be encouraged to grow and flourish via equal opportunities, rather than a singular individual allowed to create a monopoly in several sectors. I'm not even sure you understand the risk and implication of such. In normal sane countries, competition is encouraged and they put in place laws to ensure this - anti-competition rules exist for that reason, but here you are justifying monopoly. I couldn't care if this was someone else and not Dangote, I would say exactly the same thing. A country can never be successful on the back of a SINGLE individual. Never. And it is never to the advantage of the citizens to have monopolies. |

ephi123: it is difficult to have an intelligent conversation with people who are fixated on emotion. You are so obsessed with the emotion (monopoly) that you fail to get the point, that we have a mentality problem in this country. I ask you a few questions? 1) why is it Nigerian businesses do not survive generations? 2) Why is it after years of buying and selling, importing and exporting, Nigerians cannot build their own supermarket chain and they have to wait for foreigners, abi that one is govt patronage or monopoly too? 3) why are you not complaining that our big supermarkets are dominated by Shoprite and Spar? 4) How many Nigerian made products do you see on the shelves of these supermarkets? Do you really think they are working for the interests of Nigeria or using the supermarkets as a market for manufactured goods in their countries? 5) Do you not realise that these companies import htese products using our forex and export their profits again using our forex? so do you not realsie that it is better for an industry to be dominated by a Nigerian company that a foreign company because local companies do not send their profits abroad. Why is Arik still around when others are leaving? 6) you are complaing about Dangote, why are you not complaining that the Vaswani and Chaugouris that dominate so much of your economy but don't even live here, they take all your money and spend it Dubai and L.A respectively? Please take some time to google these people and find out how much of your economy is controlled by them quietly, maybe you'll realise Dangote is actually a Nigerian hero. 1 Like |

vodutive: Mr intelligent, why did you carry on typing. Your arrogance is quite nauseating. You can keep on typing your epistles. It will not change the fact that economies all over the world have proven time and time again that monopoly is not to the interest of the common man. That all the anomalies you listed are happening does not make monopoly right. Several wrongs cannot justify another wrong. The topic of discussion here is monoploy. Those foreigners controlling the economy - who gives them the free for all and let's them get away with it? Who? Anyway, I would rather use my time on other productive things today. Good luck to you with whatever reply you come up with, I'm not spending my time replying you. |

If you understand laws of economics gentlemen, you will understand why the president, Dangote and the others are promising to handing a better Nigeria by 2019. The dollar will exchange for lower than 200Naira / Dollar and Nigeria will be great again. 75 % of your Forex is spent on PMS importation. it thus mean that Dangote's refiniery can save our economy. Additionally, which dollar will crash if we import less pms, prices will crash because there will be too much availability of the dollar. certainly, Nigeria will be great again. |

kalokalo: He did make profit margins after taX of over 50%. Businessmen go into business to make money. That is the primary purpose. Nothing wrong with importation. What is important is for the government to create the enabling environment where exports can flourish. Such an environment is not on ground |

If dangote biz goes down for example, it affects our naira! He should leave our economy alone! Nigeria can build a refinery!! ( problem is tribalism on the decision of where to situate it) dangote builds a refinery now if all our oil is sent there, what's the sharing formula?? He will be milking a country!!!! Well, I pity this country |

Re: Dangote Pledges To Help FG Turn Around Nigeria’s Economy by obailala(m): 11:34am On Nov 14, 2016 |
ephi123: You are obviously the one not getting the point. I understand the risk involved in a monopoly, but I also understand the bigger risks involved in pulling down flourishing businesses as a strategy for ensuring 'equality' in the system. Like I said earlier, 'great men become great when others sleep,' Dangote operates in the same environment as many others operate, but he distinguishes himself and makes tremendous progress in whatever he touches. Except you are basically suggesting the govt clips his wings to ensure he doesn't become a monopolist, I don't know what you're all about. You may argue that Dangote enjoys extra favours to the detriment of other businesses, but I don't completely agree with that. In every society, big businessmen lobby the govt to curry favours and Nigeria isn't an exception. Also, Dangote isn't the only one who lobbies and gets favours from the govt, he just seems to be the only one who is very successful in turning these favours to success and his patriotism which pushes him to focus strictly on Nigeria and tap into the vast opportunities present is what differentiates him. The govt has been begging investors to build private refineries, but typical Nigerian businessmen preferred to import fuel and garner huge subsidies. Dangote now decides to take that responsibility by building the biggest refinery worldwide, and now people complain of monopoly. Some would argue that the CBN grants him forex easily, but it is on record that the CBN has always promised unfettered forex access to serious minded businessmen willing to build refineries. His tomato paste business obviously doesn't get the same forex concession as his refinery, hence they lament like every other business seeking forex there. Similarly in the cement business, the backward integration policy was implemented; the FG promised cement import licenses to only businessmen who had local production capacity for cement. A time limit was given for cement importers to build their plants, Dangote hurriedly builds his cement plants, retains his cement import license, other cement importers lose their import licenses, and then everyone complains that Dangote is a monopolist being helped by govt. Then again the govt has been begging Nigerians to go into rice production, while some are heeding to this plea, others are sleeping. Dangote has recently delved into the rice business, very soon (as usual) he would hit it with a bang and become a leader, and once again, people would lament his success. My dear the logic here is simple, Dangote typically gets the same opportunity as others but somehow finds a way to be extremely successful and then controls the business sector. You can't tell me Dangote is the only one who 'knows' every govt in power. Except you are asking the govt to clip his wings and snuff some life out of his businesses for others to catch up, I don't know what you all about. 1 Like |
