May God save us from the hands of those in a profession that don't have or know any standard of activities....... They are many around like that, they can't up their work .... Like bricklayers, electrician, drivers, mechanics, laundry, if you ever had disappointing encounter with anyone of them, knowing their ignorance LIKE

This a very good information that should be passed across to FRSC to educate our drivers. The may not even be aware of this.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO ALL VEHICLE USERS!

Good day sir/ma. Many people have been wondering what could be the cause of the incessant tyre burst accidents on Nigerian roads. The major cause is that we put too much pressure in our tyres. How did I know?

I was preparing for a journey, I changed some of my tyres and I asked the vulcanizer that 'what is the recommended tyre pressure?' He said 50. I said alright, he should inflate it to 50 all round.

When I got to where I was going, I was discussing with some people on the issue of the minister that died on the road due to a burst tyre and wonder what could have happened because nobody could imagine a minister would be travelling with expired tyres as many would think is the major cause of tyre bursts.

A man (lived in US for many years) said that the major cause of tyre burst in Nigeria is that we put too much pressure in our tyres and that each car has recommended tyre size and pressure clearly written on it by the manufacturer.

*I was surprised and begged him to come and show me where it's written on my car. To my greatest surprise, it's by the drivers door which I enter everyday without noticing it.*

By the time we checked, the recommended pressure for my tyres is 32! and I just traveled with tyres on a pressure of 50! He took me round his compound and showed me that of the cars (which includes a jeep and a sienna) there, the highest was 32. Some were even 29!

He further explained that tyres are made of rubber and expand at high temperature. So, when you are travelling in the afternoon when the asphalt on the road is hot, the tyre will want to expand. If the pressure in the tyre is too much and wouldn't accommodate the expansion, a burst is likely to happen at that time.

Pls check the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle and others you know.

As many as possible Nigerians need to read this.
thanks

Op you are right. The max for my car tyre pressure is 250 here in south africa but i always pump it to 230 since the minimum is 225. Another thing is that i don't let the filling station attendants pump for me, i do it by myself.

No one is regulating them. Isn't there where road safety and VIO should start from?

What did road safety know, people that don't even know what their own tyres pressure should be
Re: How Vulcanizers In Nigeria Are Killing People by onegig(m): 9:20am On Nov 14, 2016
Suprised you have a car and basic things like tyre pressure is something alien to you.

Something that can kill you but you can avoid by just a bit reading of prolly 1 hour you let Kazeems and crude set of articans to determine your fate.
Re: How Vulcanizers In Nigeria Are Killing People by Nobody: 9:21am On Nov 14, 2016
Before you start blaming the vulcanizer, you should blame the VIO and Road safety, they ought to enlighten road users on the correct tyre pressures for their vehicles.

They wont do that because it makes no money from them, they d rather venture into forcing people to buy new tires, installing speed limiters ( a feature available in most cars made from 2003) and useless reflectors which dont last like the ones that come with vehicles.

The recommended Tyre pressure is stated on the drivers door panel in your vehicle .

Its high time Nigerian car owners read their user manuals and stop buying cars to show off.

Invest little time to know how your car operates, where important components like fuse boxes, sensors are located, it will make your day less stressful at the workshop.

The bitter truth is that our esteemed VIO and road saftey officials are completely out of touch on how todays vehicles operate.

Another problem is that the manual pressure gauge vulcanisers use in Nigeria are sometimes inaccurate. When i noticed the danger i decided to buy a digital tyre pressure gauge. I control the pressure with it by myself. I bought mine for €10 about 5 years ago in Germany. I don't know if such is currently in sale in Nigeria.

BIDOO:

hmm, still wondering why you reason like this ! You mean by carrying gauge upadan?
does FRSC go around with "speed-regulating" device before they regulate motorists?

I'm talking about enlightenment, a body should be formed through which the authority can reach them and, they must have the license to operate after being certified by an agency under which they fall through presentation of needed equipment to operate and meet the standard.

Try to know how your car works, learn how the different components operate and communicate with themselves

10 Important things to know about your vehicle.

1. Engine capacity

2. Recommended engine oil and transmission oil

3. Recommended fuel

4. Location of vital components like fuse boxes, control units, sensors, data read ports.

5 Options available on the vehicle speed governors, reverse camera, overdrive etc.

6. Information about recalls, Tsbs (Technical service bulletins)

7 required software patches and updates for ECU and TCU.

8 Known weaknesses on the vehicle brand

9. crash ratings

10. Information on similar brands that share similar parts with yours.

I sell digital tire gauge which is very reliable at monitoring tire pressures and easy to use. If you would like to have one, it is free delivery in VI/Ikoyi/ Lekki. Other places will attract delivery charges. Pay on delivery is acceptable for VI/Ikoyi/Lekki. It cost just N2500.

The only way out is to have your own guage and perhaps air compressor to pump the tyre yourself. The guage roadside vulcanizers are using is dangerously inaccurate - in most cases showing less than the actual guage! Personally, I don't patronize those vulcanizers to guage my tyres, having bought my air compressor which has a guage.

It's even incredible that most drivers in Nigeria have no idea where tyre air pressures are written by the automobile manufacturer on cars. That and how to use a fuel disperser nozzle while filling your tank in a petrol station are some of the first things a learner is thought in driving school. Certainly, most of the driving school instructors in Nigeria do not know about the importance of such knowledge.

nice piece, but we have different tyre manufacturers, does this stipulated pressure gauge for every vehicle, work for all types of tyres one fits on his wheels?? same models of vehicles may use different sizes and types of tyres, does it stay fixed for all tyres??

I will consider this topic to be  giving half information about tyre pressure, before you ask the question of tyre pressure, are you using the recommended tyre type (all terrain, performance, special, snow, wet, mud etc) and size? If yes then issue of using correct pressure specification on your car door will arise, if you look at most commercial buses or for instance Golf 3, which is the common cab down north comes with 13R / 14R tyres, but for safety reasons recommended by our own mechanics through experience have modified the cars suspension and is now a requirement that it must be 15R for all commercials(golf 3 VW).  changing the suspension and tyre size means changing the whole dynamics of the car, either positively or otherwise.

You went for the brakes immediately the tyre blew hence the rollover. Next time, (which I do NOT pray for) don't go anywhere near the brakes, instead, push the accelerator harder while holding the steering firmly and staying calm then ease off the throttle pedal. The accelerative force will negate any lateral force acting upon the vehicle to swerve in either left or right till it balances and starts a rapid slow down

I have my own tyre gauge in my car to check pressure, its very cheap on Jumia, Konga and other online sites.
Dont depend on vulcanizers, they over inflate tyres in Nigeria as they think that if it is not up to 40psi and above the tyre cannot carry the weight of the car.

And people like you are those calling for the head PMB for plagiarism. Change your ways. The earlier the better.

No be persn tell am say make him use the Nigerian ones like dat. Despite the idrive system saying wrong types.
