like coldfeet said, go coconut oil way.
you can also read up some info online.
Do ensure not to strain their hair with heavy styles when it starts growing too

Mamas, Using powder on Lo less than a year isn't advisable, I will suggest your stop using powder for now and let her skin breath, powder blocks the pore of the skin and this causes breakout on LO skin.

good morning dear mothers, how are you all doing
I'm learning so much from this group thanks a lot
pls i want to ask a question
my lo of 4months and 2weeks on EBF does not wee as much as before, she can stay through out the night and her diaper will be almost dry till 9am when I bath her for the morning ,same thing in the day she can use a diaper till night and it's almost dry not cos the diaper is super absorbing
it started close to a week now cos it was not so before, the weather is hot but I don't over dress her and even when the weather is cool it's still the same dry diaper
also she feed a lot these days and seems like she is not full
could it indicate she is not getting enough milk?
pls ur advice is very needed to help me know what to do,thank you

Sorry I'm just responding been a long day here!!!

A dry diaper isn't too good at her Age. Increase your milk supply with more fluids and eating better. Ensure you drink At least 2 liters of water then add pap, kunu and milo . A few spoons of iru i.e. Locust beans also helps!

You can also give her some clean water in case she's getting dehydrated and we can't tell

It may be nothing to worry about. But i will always say no matter how frivolous you may sound, there is no harm in having her see a doctor.

If she sleep throughout the night it is not unusual for babies not to pee while sleeping and then they do so when they wake. But since it happens during the day as well, i dont know what could make her pee so infrequently.

Is she otherwise active and alert?, and not showing any signs of dehydration?
Any changes in her behaivour- clingyness, crying more than normal since the pee strike?

If no, It could be her system adjusting, or a growth spurt - - wierd things happen when babies have growth spurts?

Maybe you could give her some water inbetween her feeds. Like 30ml like 2 or 3 times a day and see if the pee situation changes.

If you are still uncomfortable, as i said before abeg go and see your peadiatrician to assess her.

Good luck.

Good Day House,

Mamas please i need your advise. Since the day i gave birth to my madam( She was 13months on sunday). I have not slept throughout the night. We finally stopped breastfeeding almost two weeks now. But nothing has changes. She wakes up about 3 to 4 times every night. I am sleep deprived.
She sleeps around 9:30pm/10pm, den she is up by 11:30/12ish. I give her her bottle with warm milk and she sleeps back. She wakes up around 2am ish, and i give her her bottle with gerber apple juice. she sleeps back or i have to change her diaper if its wet. ( she hates wet diapers, so even if she has pee d just once, we either have to change it or just open it for fresh air, den reseal after about 5 mins).

Third time around, she wakes up about 5am ish, she takes her cereal or gerber yogurt with water den she sleeps back.

And you best believe she wakes up crying oo. except she gets those thgs.

And this is a girl, dat we have to force to eat during the day. We have to sing and play her fav cartoon ( dr macstuffins theme song to get her to eat.

What can i do, cos i need to sleep. I had to move her crib into my room cos standing up to go to her room became too tedious. Infact after the first time she wakes up and i pick her from her crib, she ends up in my bed.

Any suggestion is fine please.

mama, the only thing i can say is once your dd sleeps, sleep immediately too.
if you dh is around, you can nicely ask him to help you feed baby while you sleep.

infact, any time you have chance, sleep ooo by so doing you will get your ration of sleep per day.

Na you unleash dragon!
Sorry to say but you seem to have unwittingly "trained" her to wake up to night feeds.
You need to break the habit that she has formed and you have been encouraging.

Some tips that may help:

when does she have her dinner?
What i do for my lo is dinner anytime between 5:30 and 6:30.

Then i feed her as well from whatever the rest of the house is eating around 7 or 8pm when we have ourown dinner.

Then a bottle of milk just before she gets settled for bed.

Now this is where your resolve and consistency comes in. Dedicate like 2 weeks of your night time to tackle it as it may take that long.

Cut oit all feeds between when she goes to bed and 5am

No milk, no juice, no cereal nothing
But water in a sippy cup- NOT feeding bottle.
Have your milk and warm water ready for the 5am feed

If she wakes up, try not to carry her, give her some water and pet her without carrying her.

Carry her ONLY if you must and offer only water. Rocker her back to sleep. It will take longer than feeding her but after about 3 -5 days you will see a difference.

But make sure you try as much as possible to pet wihout carrying her. If she is on the same bed with you, turn to face her and you can sing and per her back.
If you can keep it up for 2 weeks, she will wake up less during the night.

Good luck

Mamas in the house....can we do this research together and see what we can gather...I read a medical article on reader's digest that soymilk or soya beans is not too safe for children less than a YEAR especially boys because of its high doses of estrogen!! The article specifically mentioned that it should not be used as a replacement for infant formula...
High level of estrogen present in Soya bean in boys delays and can even inhibit their sexual maturity and can lead to low sperm production in later life. High doses in baby Girls caused premature puberty .....
Tried verifying it on Google and saw articles towing that line too..

Well, I had to do a little research. The Internet is agog with conflicting studies that we don't even know what to believe again. From what I gathered, the phytoestrogen present in soybean is the culprit and the concentration is significant in soy based formula especially for under 1 babies.
Most of the articles I read reported these things you raised as concerns, growing concerns but not a proven certainty. Debates are still on going.
For me, from all I have read, soy based formula is not advised at all, but for those that add to pap, I think very moderate quantity will pass.
May God help us o

Like play o, my boy started running temperature around 1 am today and before we knew it, he started vomiting. We couldn't stand it and we rushed him to the hospital around 1:30am. This is the boy that has just been treated of malaria 2weeks ago.

Is well with your son. He's healed In Jesus name.. Currently in the hospital since yesterday , my DD is on admission. Malaria +++,cough, loss of appetite, not gaining weight (7.5) since 3weeks now, temperature has reduced from 37.8 to 32.5. She's already recovering. I've been awake since yesterday, seriously unkempt.

It's basically for this period that she's reduced peeing! The weather is hot now so we must ensure she doesn't get dehydrated! Maybe after meals you can top up with a few mls of water even if just 5ml or less sef

Happy to help wink

Erm. Once you give her water, you are no longer doing "EBF" oh.

Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) means strictly breastmilk for an entire 6 months.

We're in the same boat o! I just want to add that you should also check to ensure fontanelle (soft spot) is not sunken. This is my source of reassurance since lo's diapers started drying up, also when he was 4 months 2 weeks.

It could be the heat since on cold nights he pees more.

We're doing mixed feeding so lo drinks water already (even though i try to limit quantity).

Yesterday i went for a party and drank a lot of juice and water. lo's diaper was soaked this morning. But yesterday night was also very cold so can't conclude.

Its true that he pees more when awake. Between when we wake, bathe and finish dressing, he pees up to three times sometimes. But the pee is concentrated, not clear like it used to be. I even thought it's because of formula, so surprised to hear an ebf baby going through same (Even though weekends we bf only and I've not noticed any difference).

Since your lo is ebf sha i suggest you drink more fluids, because the weather is really hot. Based on yesternight's experience personally i will be drinking 1 liter of water between when i return from work and when i sleep at night.

But if you're staying up north (harmattan has arrived and so everywhere is really dry), in my opinion please give the child water (clean water, probably boiled and cooled). In my opinion sha. I once heard a story (unverified) of an ebf baby who died from dehydration in Sokoto. (unverified story o).

As for feeding a lot without getting full, it could be a growth spurt, but you may have to up your game in milk production. A lot of hints have been dropped on this thread for ways to increase production.

Then also ask yourself, is lo really eating, or he just wants an excuse to cling. At about the age of your lo mine started staying permanently on breast all night. When you remove his moth and drop him on his bed he wakes up. How can a child want mouth on my breast all night? Do i look like a pacifier?

I had to stay awake for about 2 nights to break the habit. Although I don't know if it was my actions, or if he has just outgrown the phase.

Convention says you're spoiling her. If you don't want her to eat at night, suffer for two weeks. Give only water and endure her crying. From all that everyone says, they will happily sleep through the night or take only water if you force them to.

However, all children are different. My niece rejected food all day, so we pumped her with food all night. She used to take at least 4 bottles of cereal at night. Note that my sister had a lot of support, she always had family to help out with the night feeds.

So mama please pick a method that your power can carry sha.
