My goodness! Since yesterday night that I discovered this thread it's been one delightful and full serving of astute football analysis, meaty gist, lively exchanges spiced with fresh information. supernerd, Goodjoe, Joseph with digits, Icon4, Mikael2 I am and many others Ops I am absolutely wowed by the depth and verve of what has been offered on this thread. My appetite is just getting whetted. I yearn for more news, more analysis, more viewpoints. I lost my passion for club football but when it comes to the Super Eagles I am as passionate as red iron although I must confess that series of bad performances in the past punctured my zeal but it's been revived. Without any shadow of doubt we are in a new season in Nigerian football, a fresh wave of power is sweeping through our football with great promises of such frightening prospects. I am just so happy. I spent the whole day lapping up this thread, I am satisfied yet hungry for more. O Lord!!! I knew this day would come when vividness will be added to the fading colors of the eagle's but it's come so fast, so quick and it's thrust will be deep. We are cresting. The Eagle has rejuvenated and is soaring. There is a tide in the affairs of men. This is the Time!

TheSuperNerd:
You're right Sir Joseph. I dont see an Enyeama willing to sit on the bench for Ikeme.

Let's check on Ligali of Montpellier instead. When Oliseh shopped for Enyeama's back-up on taking over last year, Ikeme's and Ligali's names came up afterall.

This can be done unless Ligali says a big no. What we have now apart from Ikeme are quality young goalies like Alampasu, Nwokolor, Osigwe and Emma Daniel (the oldest of these young goalies).

Ezenwa and Akpeyi are not quality back-ups or reliable second-choice goalies.

So why dont we check out Ligali?

Ligali is from benin republic not Nigeria. And on Enyeama sitting on d bench,i want to say it clearly that he w need to fight for No1 shirt with Ikeme,d best among d duo should man d post.

But telling us Enyeama w not like to sit on d bench is like painting him as unprofessional coz d same Enyeama was on bench for Ejide during afcon 2008,this was Berti Vogts era.

Enyeama must know that coming back to Eagles,he has Ikeme as No 1 to displace not like b4 coz technically Ikeme is good.

Well deeper research shows that he was born to Nigerians (Yoruba parents kinda) in Benin Republic. He has Nigerian blood but because of his birth in Benin Rep, he's seen as a beninoise and french also.

And truth is Yes... Enyeama sat on the bench for Ejide in 2008 under Vogts. Then he wasnt even captain.

We are talking of a Vincent Enyeama who was captain and leader before the Oliseh drama. The logical thing is for him to come fight for a shirt with Ikeme and should be content on the bench if he loses out on the no.1 spot as Super Eagles goalie.

But... Psychologically, we know these things roll. It wont be easy for Enyeama who have been Africa's finest goalie for the better part of the last decade plus to suddenly come out of retirement and be content with a place on the bench. IT'S TRUE HE'S A PROFESSIONAL BUT WE SPEAK OF A LEADER AND A GOALIE WHO OTHER AFRICAN GOALIES LOOK UP TO AS THE god of African goalies today.... From a psychological standpoint, it wont be easy which is why I dont see Enyeama sitting on the bench.

Unless ofcos, Enyeama comes and proves us all wrong coz I know he still has a soft spot for The Super Eagles. Just that I dont know how truly soft that spot is now.

Good move??

Of course, it's good news. Ndidi has the talents to excel in England. Some will call it hype, but I think he offers even more than Kante; he offers goals. The match against Bilbao wowed me. He was spectacular!

on the contrary, Enyeama is going to come back before the World Cup, won't be suprised if he comes back before any FIFA free window in July next year. That news then was fake
Honestly, I don't see anything good in recalling Enyeama. I think we missed our chance to recall him against Algeria in Carl's absence. If we recall him now, does that mean he would be asked to sit on the bench? Don't get me wrong, there's no doubt in my mind that Enyeama is marginally better than Ikeme, but I don't think that it's worth disrupting the team just to recall him.

It's Carl's team now, let's keep it that way. We just need to find a solid back up for him.

Good point,if he can displace Ikeme no issue but it w be difficult to come out of retirement displace equally a good goalkeeper who has cement his place as No 1.

If Enyeama is not willing to sit on d bench, then he should leave the team alone coz w don't want any distraction this time around.

Enyeama should just take a cue from Kameni of malaga who has lost his place in Cameroon team despite being one of d finest keeper to come out of Africa.

Though Ikeme and Enyeama rivalry w give us d best and it w take us back to Us94 squad of Rufai,Agbonavbre and Agu.

Personally am okay with either Enyeama ir Ikeme coz they are reliable and trusted between d stick and d two should know that Nigeria is bigger than any individual.

Sir Blueto already dropped the link.... Here's the full gist.... Cc TheGoodJoe grin grin grin (I just want a super balance of the best of the best in terms of Nacho's super talents utilisation... He's beastly as an AM, SS and R/LWF.... He could also play the False 9 but that's in a set-up that allows him to roam and be involved in build-up plays super-consistently and not sit or be isolated as a typical no.9).

In all... Nacho for #ManBehindTheStiker aka man-in-the-hole. I just want the best for Nacho.... Our beastly Alien kid and Raumdeuter... Be it AM, SS, RWF, LWF, or lastly, True false 9 (NOT typical 9).

I DON'T WANNA SEE NACHO HAVE A "QUIET" GAME IN THE GREEN AND WHITE EVER AGAIN. He's too super to have a "quiet game". He offers much more than High pressings and Movements to confound the opponents.

Man City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is NOT a
number nine says former coach

Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho will
thrive in a supporting role, claims his former
Nigeria coach.

Danladi Nasidi, who coaches the Nigeria u15 side, worked with the City forward in his youth, and believes his game is not suited to playing as the lead striker.

And that could be good news for Pep Guardiola, as he tries to fit in an array of attacking talents
to be joined by Gabriel Jesus in the New Year.

Iheanacho has made 12 appearances under the
new manager, but was an unused sub as City
won 2-1 at Crystal Palace at the weekend.

“Kelechi is not a number nine, he doesn’t like defenders to mark him. He is a supporting striker, sometimes I played him as a winger, from the left," Nasidi told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“I also played him in the midfield, he takes shots because he is free in midfield. If you put him as a top striker, he won’t be able to shoot."

This will be no secret to City scouts, who watched the Nigerian prospect for four years before finally obtaining his signature.

As a teenager, Kelechi came to the UK for a youth tournament and finished as top scorer - but he wasn't the only player to catch the eye of the City representatives.

Nasidi added: “Manchester City came for Kelechi Iheanacho in 2010 after he won the top scorer award in a tournament we participated in the United Kingdom. He has been my highest
goalscorer since the U13.
**Playing off the main striker ooo NOT as the lead striker sef**

“About 20 clubs participated in the competition, City wanted to sign most of these players but the NFF refused to reach an agreement.

“I have been told two teams are interested in signing Kelechi now. He is doing fine in Man City, I want him to stay and grow with City before moving to another club.” **So the rumours are actually true smiley **

If there was a chance to go threads back, before Kelechi Iheanacho signed for City, I thought we got a ten to lead the Super Eagles for years.

At City, the story changed. I think unlike a lot of people, I have grasped the growth of Nacho. Others haven't.

It does not add up for me when people say, Nacho is suited for the ten role. That is old school thought.

We have seen Messi flourish from the wings, midfield and nine. We saw Neymar play those roles well. Recently, we are seeing Gabriel Jesus transform from a winger/midfielder into one of the promising forwards in the game today.

Nacho rose through the City ranks playing as a striker. It seems people have forgotten his brilliant performance against Manchester United in the EDS, scoring two mind blowing goals. Was that not shining and suiting the nine role?

Suarez played many roles behind Forlan. Today, he is one of the best finishers in the game.

Saying Nacho is suited for the ten role and not nine is an insult to his talent.

Like others I understand their stance on Nacho as an AM and SS. But in addition to that I have always maintained that Nacho can equally strive as a RWF/LWF and a False 9.

I have always said he's a super hybrid and reminds me of a Messi who strives today anywhere in attack as a RWF, SS, False 9, a no.10 (an AM) and can even play LWF.

FOR ME, I SAY I FEEL HIS BEST POSITION IS BEHIND THE STRIKER/TOP 9 EITHER AS AN SS, AM OR RWF IN THE LONG RUN (because the likes of Osimhen and Sadiq Umar will also develop into Top 9 beasts)....... BUT AGAIN I ALSO KNOW HE CAN STRIVE AS A "BAD-ASS" FALSE 9 AND GET EVEN DEADLIER WITH MORE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT IN HIS GAME. HE CAN BE AFRICA'S VERISON OF LIONEL MESSI AND EVEN MORE.... HE'S THAT SUPER TALENTED.

Like You, I have observed closely Nacho's growth and concedes he has everything to succeed as a false 9 in the no.9 role which I believe makes him maintain his touch with his other abilities like his Vision, his Creativity, his subtle dribbling and more.

In all, I just want all the beastly talents/abilities of kelechi "the alien kid" Iheanacho to be utilised to the fullest. In that kid lies possibly Africa's finest goals machine and one of the world's super attacking wizards of all time.......... That's who I see in Nacho.

In recalling Eyeama, there r 2 big issues that can sparkle controversy in the team,
The issue of captaincy and the issue of displacing Ikeme as #1.

The best option is to use Daniel as a backup and groom Alampasu as a long term replacement

Former South Africa Coach Warns Super Eagles Group Rivals: This Eagles Are Super

Former South Africa national team coach Pitso Mosimane has warned Nigeria’s group rivals to be wary of the threat of the Super Eagles in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Nigeria extended their lead at to the top of group B after a 3-1 win over Algeria at home while Cameroon played out a 1-1 draw against Zambia at home.

Pitso, who have kept a close watch on the Nigerian team since the start of the World Cup Qualifiers warned the rest of the teams in the group to pay attention to the Nigerians, who are now playing a football befitting of their standard.

”This is the real Super Eagles, they were very impressive against Zambia and Algeria. They are to me one of the teams to beat in the World Cup qualifiers” He said.

”The quality in the team is mindblowing. They have players like Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and even as good as he is Ahmed Musa plays from the bench. This is indeed the real Super Eages”.

Chelsea Legend: Mikel Deserves Better Treatment From Chelsea, He is A Club Icon

Former Chelsea left full back Celestine Babayaro has given his view on the plight of John Obi Mikel at Stamford Bridge insisting that, the current second longest serving player at Chelsea deserves a better treatment.

Mikel has been frozen out of the first team picture by coach Antonio Conte since his return from the Olympics in Rio, with Conte preferring the likes of Nemanja Matic, N’golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and youngster Nathan Chalobah to the Nigerian.

Despite Chelsea fine run of six wins from six games without conceding a goal, Babayaro is of the opinion that a club icon like Mikel should not be frozen out of the match day squad totally, due to his lengthy stay at the club.

”You have to reward loyalty, am afraid that is not the case at Stamford Bridge at the moment with Mikel. He is not a new signing, this is his 11th season at the club. He deserves respect from the coach, management and fans” Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”In my view he should be the club vice captain, after John Terry. They have served the club and they deserve the respect of all connected to the club. For Terry age is not on his side but Mikel deserves to be treated fairly. This current act by Conte is not fair on a club legend”.

NFF President Pinnick Reveals Key Information On Russian Born Nigerian Idowu, Shed More Light On Plans To Lure Chelsea Tammy Abraham And Liverpool Ejaria

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has reacted to reports about Nigeria’s plan to lure England youth international duo Tammy Abraham of Chelsea and Ovie Ejaria of Liverpool. The NFF supremo also took time out to speak on the chances of Russian born Nigerian Brian Idowu playing for the Super Eagles.

The duo of Abraham and Ejaria have represented England at youth level but Nigeria is keen on luring them to play for the senior national team, owing to their fine form for their respective sides, with Ejaria now firmly established as a first team player at Liverpool while Abraham has taken the Championship by storm where he is on loan to Bristol City from Chelsea.

”We are working on a lot of possibilities in that direction but our focus right now is to qualify for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Tammy Abraham is not an immediate priority as we have loads of options upfront but he is one we are in contact with for the future” He said.

”Ejaria case is for the Technical Adviser Mr. Gernot Rohr to decide, If he says he wants him, then we will expedite actions regarding his switch of allegiance to the Super Eagles”.

He was however specific on Brian Idowu, who as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com has been called up to the team by Rohr, who wants competition for his full backs and view the 24 year old Amkar Perm defender as a positive addition.

”We are in touch with Brian Idowu already. His case is less complex and has the approval of the Technical Adviser.”

Former West Brom, Sunderland, Everton, Wigan Athletic and Hull City left back cum winger Kevin Kilbane has revealed why Victor Moses is thriving at Chelsea, as a wingback in coach Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system.

Moses is one of the first name on the team sheet of the table topping team of coach Conte, playing a big role in their current run of six wins in six achieved without conceding a goal.

Kilbane who played as a left wing back during his days as a player, wrote about why the Nigerian is thriving in Chelsea’s formation under Conte in his column for the BBC.

“It helps Moses that he has got a really stable set-up behind him thanks to N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic.

“Moses knows at least one of them will drop in too, so Chelsea’s three-man defence is rarely left without cover even if he does not get back.

“So he can really bomb forward as much as he likes, especially in games like Sunday where his side were on top for long spells.

“Boro defended very deep, Chelsea saw a lot of the ball and he could push high up the pitch.

“The home side did not really deal very well with Chelsea’s shape and their full-back Fabio was being dragged inside by Pedro.

“Kante was also getting forward on the left and Gaston Ramirez did not know how to deal with him and Moses, meaning Moses got a lot of room.”

Give Moses the credit and stop beating around the bush, I m sure if he had opted to play for England he would be rated as the "English Messi" angry

I think it's more of Ndidi just wanting to stay focused on continuing an awesome season with KRC Genk and not worrying about any January move but time will tell. Ndidi to leicester for January or for the summer of 2017? Or maybe other top clubs will come for him at season's end? Time will tell it all....... smiley

Genk Director Disagrees With Ndidi Over
January Move To Leicester City – We Can’t Hold On To Him

A mild disagreement has broken out between
Super Eagles defender cum midfielder Wilfred
Ndidi and the Sporting Director of Genk Dimitri de
Conde’ over a potential january move to English
Champions Leicester City.

Ndidi who has been linked with Watford,
Newcastle United and German side Hamburg, is
reportedly a subject of a bid of over £15 million
from Leicester City, but the 19 year old shelved
the talks, insisting he is focused on doing well for
Genk and not about a move to Leicester City in
January.

“Any serious offer will have to be made to my club
which will duly inform me. As I speak to you now,
I read the stories in the media just like any other
person, but there has not been any concrete offer
made to Genk. So I don’t want to worry myself
thinking about something that may eventually
not materialise”, Ndidi said.

However Sporting Director Conde’ said the club
can’t hold on to the Super Eagles midfielder as he is
high in demand, just like his midfield teammate Leon Bailey.

“The chances that both Leon Bailey as Wilfred
Ndidi will still play in Genk after January is getting
smaller.

“I must be ready with an alternative,”
said technical director, Dimitri de Condé.

“The demand for Bailey and Ndidi is huge,” said
sporting boss Dimitri de Condé. “Let’s go to fight
to keep them here until the end of this season,
but that is no easy task.

“we cannot deny the fact that the boys also feel
ready to move up a step higher and it will be very
difficult to keep them in Genk.

“The two lads are absolute top talents in the
category of players under 20 years and an
amount between 20 and 25 million is not too
much for them. They’ve been excellent for us this
season and If we reach an agreement with
interested clubs in January then it is my job to be
ready with an alternative” Conde concluded

During our first super golden era, Rashidi Yekini cemented his place as our no.1 top striker. Who will be Nigeria's no.1 Striker (Top 9) in our fast-Rising second new Super Golden Era? Ighalo? Ideye? Osimhen? Kayode? Adi? Anichebe? Sadiq Umar? Success? Awoniyi? Or will it be Iheanacho (who can play anywhere in attack) up-top in a false 9 if that clicks in our national side? So many possibilites now buttt... Time will tell.... I Love Time grin

MLS Goal King Adi Pleads With Gernor Rohr
For One More Chance With Super Eagles

Portland Timbers free scoring forward Fanendo
Adi has sent a come and get me plea to Super
Eagles coach Gernot Rohr as Nigeria intensify
preparation for next year World Cup 2018
qualifiers.

Adi finished the season with 17 goals for Timbers,
one goal short of his last season tally of 18 goals
during the MLS regular season, however he has
so far failed to gain the attention of coach Rohr.

The 26 year old has only been called up once to
the Nigeria national team, which was the double
header against Egypt but he failed to make the
match day squad, he however believes that he is
a better player now and ready to push for a spot
in the team.

“That I was invited on the bench does not rule me
out of the national team. I can only focus on my
games and not be distracted. The doors for
Eagles are not closed to me as far as I am
concern,” he said.

“I just believe it’s about being there at the best
time. This is not a platform for me to express
what I can do for the new coach, he must have
heard or see what I can do. But the truth of the
matter is still that I have gotten better credentials
to be in the national team. I think Nigerians have
not seen the best of me, and I can see many
people are eager to see what I can do. And who
knows if my own time will come at 2018 World
Cup.

“It was a nice step for me, (my first Eagles
invitation against Egypt) I don’t see it the way
some people are seeing it; and I understand the
fact that all of us cannot be on the pitch to play
at the same time, “stated Adi.

“I have read it on numbers of occasion that I
wasn’t treated well. But, for me, I don’t see bad
feelings with the way I was treated. I just believe
in what I am doing. Sometimes, your
performances may not convince your coach but
that does not mean the privileged ones are better
or you are a bad player. Patience and time have
taken me to this level.

“I am a kind of person that always brings out
positive from negative things, so I am always
positive. Nigeria is big enough, everybody will
have his or her time, though it may look tough
especially when you are doing well, but that does
not mean I should be feeling bad.

“I enjoyed my first Eagles camp because I was
able to see and meet great players and exchange
contacts; I am not worried over what happened. I
am a lover of Super Eagles and I know my debut
day will be special,” he concluded.

NO PLAYER WITH MIKEL'S QUALITIES IN S/EAGLES – AKPOBORIE

Former Vfl Wolfsburg striker and ex Nigeria
International, Jonathan Akpoborie has defended
the invitation of the Super Eagles captain, Mikel
Obi, for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against
Zambia and Algeria, stating there are no players
around, with similar qualities to fill in the
Midfielder’s boots.

The 29-year-old star has yet to feature for his EPL club, Chelsea FC, this season but Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr deem it necessary to include the player in his plans.

Akpoborie told footballlive.ng that Mikel’s
importance to the Eagles was evident in the
team’s victories against Zambia and Algeria, in
the world cup qualifying matches.

According to Akpoborie, though his game play
may (sometimes) slow his mates down, Mikel plays his role well.

EXCLUSIVE: NFF In Talks With Nigerian-
American Right Back Anibaba To Dump USA For Nigeria

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have made contact with former USA junior international Jalil Anibaba, over a potential switch from the country of his birth and play for Nigeria at international level.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that a directive
from coach Gernot Rohr to the Technical
Committee of the NFF, instructing them to search for credible options for the right and left back roles of the team forced the approach.

Rohr has used four right full back in three games as coach of the Super Eagles and the Franco-German coach is also unhappy that Elderson Echiejile still remains his only credible option at left back.

28 year old Anibaba plays for Houston Dynamo in the Major League Soccer (MLS), and represented the junior teams of America in 2007, but he is yet to play for them at full international level.

”We have identified a Nigerian right full back Jalil Anibaba, who plays in the MLS. He fits the bill of what the coach instructed us to get for him. Contacts have been established with his relatives, but serious talks will be initiated once the coach gives his go ahead”, a member of the Technical Committee told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Look Away Algeria Fans – CAF Suspends Four Referees For Poor Performance During World Cup Qualifiers But….

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has
slammed suspension on four referees over their
poor performance after the latest round of World
Cup 2018 qualifiers played a fortnight ago.

However for the prayers of fans of the Algerian
national team to CAF to suspend Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama for allowing John Obi Mikel’s goal against them stand, despite scoring from what looked like an offside position was turned down.

Gassama wasn’t listed among the suspended
officials despite an online petition by fans of the
Algerian national team demanding his suspension for some few games, particulary games involving Algeria.

CAF released the list of the referees suspended for poor performance with officials from Eritrea,
Kenya, Ghana and Rwanda sanctioned.

Also the games that led to the suspension of the officials were listed as the game between South Africa and Senegal in Pretoria, and Libya against Tunisia had all three referees who officiated in the tie suspended.
