I have no reason to, but i don't believe this is true! I think the first thing the NCC should be doing is to force glo to revert their data subscription to their initials.

If dis is true, then it is obvious dat dis govt lacks the pre-requisite knowledge and ideas to move dis country forward.

Dis exposes d height of insensitivity and mis-focus of dis govt, coupled wit d latest clamour to increase fuel price. As long as dey can afford it, the rest can go and die....Dis is sad!

Lots of guys are really misinformed in this our Obodo Naija... How on earth do people expect a government to decently function without people having to pay tax on goods and services?

For what it's worth, most previous governments in our country were dubious when it came to the issue of taxes on goods and services - pretending as though there were none, or ignoring to collect them, so as not to disrupt/disturb the apple cart. That facilitates their winnng elections, when, in fact, the government anywhere can't function without taxes! As a result, you and me have been deceived — and spoilt — over the years, guys. To me, the important things is to hold the government accountable for all revenues it generates, so as to fan development.

And, to the OP: I have a feeling this will turn out to be the case of someone confusing a directive by the NCC for networks to collect lawful taxes due on data, with the expected increase in data rates as a result! I hope I'm not wrong, because then it will be sad indeed if the NCC should now start meddling in how much the networks prescribe as own base charge for own data service (before lawful taxes are applied.) In other words, God forbid a revert to the era of price control!

Competition, they say, IS good — for both business and consumer.

Good luck, everyone.

Mr Man, this is not data tax. NCC Set a Minimum price that GSM companies can charge for Data. The GSM companies currently charge lower than the Minimum price. so by December 1st, ALL GSM Companies will have to Charge the Minimum price set by NCC. This is what will lead to customers paying more for Data. Your regular N1,000 for 1.5GB wont be like that again. From December 1st, N1000 might give you 1GB or 800MB. I don't understand NCC's Business in telling Network what to charge. The Yeye NCC don't Know the Cheaper customers pay for data, the more Networks make more money and pay more taxes. This is common sense!

And most of these telcos are sourcing for funds internally.. Most investors have pulled out, due tovd foreign exchange policies... Sincerely speaking, this admin is not helping matters at all. They dont even know what they are doing..

Someone once said Jonathan gave buhari a car with a good engine, but a faulty shaft..

Buhari has knocked the engine ND putting d blame on the shaft...

Young man, dis sort of statement can only come from someone with a mindset of a sadist. Dis category of pple lack love and compassion to others even within their immediate surrounding or neighbourhood.

They alwaz form sadistic philosophies to justify their actions or judgement on things even to d point of hurting themselves. They are blind and insensitive to both themselves and to others but may not be conscious or aware of it.

Government why? Do you even think about the welfare of your citizens

No they don't. My question is what is NCC's business with fixing price of calls or data? In the right sense, they should support crashing the price lower. But no they are there to frustrate the common man.

Sorry, poor judgement on your part: I'm not a young man by any definition. And, what is sadistic about urging twisted minds such as you to accept to pay your lawful tax?

If this is true, then I'm very disappointed at NCC. Do they want to suffocate the masses, or what? Given the hardship around the country right now, this is just plain stupid.

Cc: lalasticlala, Seun, Obinoscopy, this needs to make frontpage. We need to rise up against this wickedness. This is the kind of thread that deserves front-page.

As an insider in one of the GSM companies, i can reliably inform you that data rate will go up 1st December,2016. NCC has mandated all GSM Companies to raise data rates. This is sad, Nigerians should not accept it, Nigerian Government through its agencies should not make life harder for Nigerians!
N1000 Will be 500MB from December 1st 2016.

I believe this news because it was done for UK Mobile providers as well. Nigerians are in for a long bumpy ride with this heartless government.

Due to increase in termination rates by the Nigerian Telecom Regulator, our rates are changing from 26.09.2016
See http://www.lebara.co.uk/prepay/rates

Dear customers, effective 26.09.2016, there will be price changes to calls made to Nigeria , which will be as below. Saver and UK Plus Nigeria Fixed rate is increasing from 1p to 5p & Nigeria Mobile rate is increasing from 9p to 12p. Best Rate for Nigeria Landlines is increasing from 1p to 5p & Nigeria Mobile rate is increasing from 2p to 9p.
