The idea was good so that Nigerians can have many options in terms of Data but the timing was bad.

ALTON though has no right to threaten us with bad quality of service.
Which idea was gud, buying 1.5gb for 3k abi, am using etisalat that charge 0.91k/mb or so, but am satisfied with d service, I wil rather use 1200 to do 1.5gb which works for 24hours and 2k to do 5gb night and weekend plan than use 3k to sub 1.5gb... Smile, spectranet,mtel and the likes should rather expand their service and lower their charge than expect d whole country to suffer for companies whose data services only work in 3-5 states.

Data is one of the cheapest thing in our neighboring countries, why is Nigeria's case different? Besides, is data the biggest challenge we have in this country? I can't believe the level of confusion we are going through in this country.

They are right. The Nigeria environment is a harsh place to do business,these guys have to provide 2 working generators at all their base stations,fuel cost is also rising,taxes also,coupled with the fact that forex remittance is becoming an headache for them. The only way they can keep up is to reduce their quality of service

Who forced them to slash the price before?

And what business do ncc have to do with telecoms pricing.

Etisalat reviewed its price for about 2 months ego, did they obtain ncc permission?
Re: Aborted Tariff Hike: Expect Poor Data Services, Telecom Operators Tell Consumers by Abdulrahmanibra(m): 8:16am On Dec 02, 2016

i think your data service is stiil not up to standard, so whether u ameliorate the service or not, Nigerian people are still suffering for d quality of data service, talkless of me living in an area where 3G ntwork seems to be never exist!!!

Bros o only gave reasons why they may want to increase their tarrif. Power has even worsened in Nigeria and don't forget that the rate of dollars 2 months ago isn't the same rate today. Whichever way u want to look at it ,the point remains that they are now spending more than before

Pay little attention to the adebayo guy ...he owns one of the small internet providers that blackmailed ncc into the hike ...mtn Airtel and etisalat have no business with what he said as they're very comfortable with the status quo

If I must tell you, power has improved in my area drastically, from days without light we now boast of atleast 10 hours per day. All those excuse you are giving for them are things they've been doing before, NCC wants smile, spectranet and others to break even whyl existing in 4-5 cities, that is cynical, let them fold up first, move their tentacles to all da states and start competing. Millions cant suffer bcor sym ppl paid NCC.
Re: Aborted Tariff Hike: Expect Poor Data Services, Telecom Operators Tell Consumers by nairaman66(m): 8:26am On Dec 02, 2016
These telecom operators should all be taken to court for their unguarded statements! See the reason this country cannot grow!

This is really embarrassing, and the weak entity called NCC are conniving with telecom operators to suck the citizenry dry!! There was a country indeed!

its not by force to remain in telecom business nah, they can go into rice farming if telecom business is no longer lucrative.

We keep fooling ourselves in Nigeria, very soon fuel marketers association will come and threaten us too with fuel scarcity.

Nigerian businessmen are too naive and emotional for business, the same harsh business climate is where the indians, lebanese, chinese and co keeps thiving. Shoprite keeps opening stores even in remote places in the same economy where dollar and cost of business is high.

How on earth can a responsible service provider threaten his paying customer with poor services? So, if they provide poor data services, we port to another network. Who is the loser then? If all networks shut down their data, other players will see the void and enter the market. In this era of extremely cheap metred data and free wifi in developed countries, they are threatening us here with poor network and exorbitant prices.

These people think they are doing us a favour by providing us with paid data. They do not understand that this is how they eat. Please somebody should tell them.
very true abt d free wifi..wen my cuz went to USA 4 holidays she told me she only used her wifi to browse she was nt looking 4 network up and down

It is difficult to believe that current prices are not sustainable for the telecoms operators because these guys have been giving out freebies in form of voice call and data like forever. They are even encouraging consumers to purchase mobile devices that uses larger amount of data and do away with kpalasa phones.

This Adebayo no well o. I thought a customer is supposed to be a f**king King? They, the telecoms are here because they make money here, we don't have to beg them to stay. That's how they did with electricity companies too, they kept telling us they needed to increase tariff to allow them make profit. My question is, didn't they do a feasibility study before investing their capital? Or they're investing because they love Nigerians? I'm calling Bulls*it.

Negodu how this people are threatening Nigerians. Since NCC already hinted on the Price hike telecoms companies wants to use bad services to punish Nigerians for resisting the hike
the same telecom companies packaged the whole tariff saga as if it was NCC and federal government agenda. they never show sign of being interested in the increase but now that it has been suspended/reversed, they are crying.
Re: Aborted Tariff Hike: Expect Poor Data Services, Telecom Operators Tell Consumers by sorepco(m): 8:42am On Dec 02, 2016
Most of u commenting dont get it. What i can see is that some of these foreign telcos are at great loss when they try to repatriate their profits due to the bad exchange rate. So they want the NCC to set a benchmark data plan that no telco can go below. I.e. glo or mtn cant go below 1.5 gig @ 2,500 naira!! However they can go above it.
Has anyone heard glo complaining about this? No. They dont need to tepartriate their profits. They can readily reinvest in naira. And dont forget say na glo de scatter data price anyhow.

Boleyndynasty2:
Why are they making it seem like we forced em to slash the prices of the data before now? Weren't they ok with it b4 now?Why are they desperately in need of this new NCC increment? undecided

This is hate taken too far, if you cant continue then fold up, once mtn, glo, etisalat and airtel are still in business we are fine, you cant stay in 3 cities doing data buz alone and expect 2 mak profit. How many ppl use those upcoming brands even in lag,abj and ph. Even @ 480 per dollar, d major telecom companys stil dash out bonuses and awuf data, smile data start from abt 3K for less than 2gb and u expect ppl 2 choose them over an mtn where 3k wil giv u 4.5gb, 3k with glo wil giv u abt 10gb, 3k with etisalat wil giv u abt 4gb data same with airtel. There is no monopoly here, these 4 netwrk exist in almost al d states, we are satisfied with them. If you cant compete with them then get out of the biz, it is nt by force

It's not really by 200% to all networks sir,Its 0.90k/MB.
1GB=1024MB
@0.90K/MB, 1GB can be sold at 0.90*1024= N921.60.

freeze001:
Who forced these Telcos to slash their data prices in the first place? Did they not keep unveiling new data plans and prices to attract market share? Did anyone force them to give out all the freebies they did? If they felt d prices were unrealistic, healthy business plans would have seen them offer better services for slightly increased prices on their own network, not banding together with the connivance of the NCC to unilaterally increase prices by as much as 200%!

That is bad faith and large scale monopoly which should not be the case. There is supposed to be competitive marketing and prices based on quality of services rendered. How effective have their data services been anyway?
