Hey guys. Following our successful visa interview, I want to inform the nairaland family that I and my siblings have finally touched down in chicago. We would be calling this place home for now.

on arrival from the airport, we (in company of our cousins and uncle) went to one chinese eat out to grab some chaw. It was more like a buffet thingy, like the glutton I am, i went and piled my plate high on what I don't know.

as i took one bite, I nearly threw-up


luckily for me, they had chicken and chips, i had to settle for that.

FRANKFURT


Our flight was not a one-way flight. We boarded from abuja to Frankfurt, Germany then we waited for close to 3hrs for the connecting flight to chicago.

when we boarded, refreshments were being served,

the air-hostess got to my roll and asked me what type of sandwich i would like, she said something like "cheese or celery"

i chose celery (because the lady seated beside me picked the same thing)

chai! i eagerly unwrapped it, took one bite with enthusiasm and wished i hadnt. needless to say, that was the only bite i took.

we were later served rice, with chicken and one nice sauce.

i turned on the screen in front of me, listened to music, saw one or two movies, slept.....

see eh, the moment i stepped foot in Frankfurt, the first thing that hit me was the cold, forget that harmattan wey dey make us think say we dey yankee. this cold hit me to my bone marrow.

the moment we entered the airport proper, I was in awe. I had not seen so much white people in one place (as the village man i am)
everywhere was looking like something out of a fairytale

we had a little trouble locating the particular boarding gate for our connecting flight, though with a little help, we found it.

From the automated trains, to the ultra-clean and organized airport to the comfortable chairs, clean toilets, working charging ports and airconditioning systems, i would say frankfurt was nice to me.

So, I was a fairly popular guy in my school area back in Nigeria (not because of any extraordinary feat or something) but because I was to techy guy, the go-to guy when you have any issues with your laptop, phone, Internet or any thing technology. My course of study was nowhere near this field though, it was more like a hobby.

I didn't graduate though. I left my course of study (a professional course) and ran away.

News about my "janding" has filtered round, people whom I don't know have started blowing up my phone lines and social media accounts, even the girls who pretend not to see me have started jumping into my dms.
Nigerians are hypocrites though.

Circadian rhythm


Considering the fact that I changed timezones, my brain (and body) is still trying to adjust to the time change. I find myself feeling sleepy when its night time in Nigeria. For the past two nights, each time i go to bed, i would just wake up abruptly around like 2:00am or so (which coincides with morning in Nigeria). I also feel hungry at odd times too,

my siblings have complained about the same thing though.

Most people whom i have contacted on social media and informed that I've left the country are being all friendly and nice all of a sudden, some of them are not very happy that I didnt inform them earlier though. Im yet to understand their displeasure, If i had told you, would you have given me money to pay for my flight ticket?

You are jet lagged. It'll take about a week for you to acclamatise to the time zone.
About being nice, you contacted them innit? It'll be easier for you to sleep believing they are genuinely happy for you. You would be for someone else, won't you?

Weather

Being someone who has low tolerance for cold, I'm finding it hard to adapt. The snow has been falling nonstop, im afraid of turning up the heater too much so as not to increase mum's bill.

The day we touched down in O'hare international airport, it wasn't snowing. But from the next day onward, I has been snowing nonstop.

I (and my siblings) were fascinated by the sight of falling snow on the first day. Believe me, you have to witness it, with time though, we've gotten used to it.

The next person that hits me with the "you didn't tell me" line would get it hot from me. This is becoming very annoying. There's this particular female that was wonderfully rude to me the last time we had a chat, I kept my distance.

Woke up this morning to see messages from her, telling me nonsense about not telling her I was traveling. Being the savage I am, guess what I did?

That thought came to my head a few times. Maybe when I settle down fully.

Food


One thing I've noticed here is that food is everywhere, at every corner, on every street there's an eatery (or something of that nature).

On the first day we got here, we ate out at one Chinese looking restaurant (I think I mentioned that earlier)
It was a buffet-like setting. In my characteristic gluttony, I took a bit of everything and put on my plate

After a few bites of my meal, the sauce from one of the ngwongwo I put on my plate mixed with the whole meal and I had to abandon the whole plate. Went and took another plate and took chicken, chips and fish this time around. Then took fruits later.

I'm rearing to go to the popular eateries like kfc, McDonald, Burger King, etc etc
(Yup, I love food like that)

Security and housing

In Nigeria, once you buy land, you can erect "manshon" anyhow you want it. If you even want it to be flying, na your land, do anything you want.

When you're done with your house, if you want your fence to touch the sky, your choice, na your house, na your land.

The reverse is the case here, the neighborhood I'm staying has only one type of structure, same thing with the neighborhood my cousins stay.

As for fencing, my house no get fence sef -no jokes. See road, see my domot.

Security wise, I was told that each house has an alarm system that's connected to the police station. When anything goes wrong, they would be notified juzz lai dat!

Lol.... it's good for skin toning! Kidding. Try use organic eggs... they are natural... brown she'll and yellow yoke...but twice as expensive. Bro..... you said it's mad cold ...and been snowing. .. but I'm sure your mom be getting up and going to work. Always be aware of her struggles and try to make life easier for her.
