What of Palm Oil, Beans and the rest.

I love this question but it's more question for my dear edo state, also other southern and eastern states.

Pz bought 22,000 hectares in c/river for palm products (palm oil, kernel etc) farming last year, no news on the project so far

The progress of Afonja is causing serious nightmare for u.

I don't wana sound tribal with my comment but this development breaks the local and foreign price of rice in the market meanwhile a governor in your region branded his name on the rice bag as the price is even ridiculously high and not enough to feed his own family.

So that's what Atiku will do if he becomes the President

You are not serious. We are yet to finished one half of Buhari administration,. Remember he just recently selected his minister. So why are you talking about another President-to-be. Do you know how many people would die till that time? Why are Nigerians like this?

Rice investment we are witnessing now is not enough to cater for the whole of Nigeria we still require additional investment to meet the shortfall. for now, importation is still needed to be allowed to cater for the shortfall.

i commend private industrialist like Coscharis and Dangote group for making the huge investment in the value chain system. it might take several years to meet national demand but i'm glad we are taking the right steps.

i commend his excellency Goodluck Jonathan for initiating the backward intergration policy and Mr. president for sustaining such noble venture for the benefits of all Nigerians

This is logical

1. We saturate our local markets for our residents

2. They get it at affordable price

3. They experience a nice Xmas

4. Then we fill our silos and storage facilities for next three years

5. THEN WE THINK OF EXPORT

Unlike some people who would start with number 5 and declare fake billions.

Until local rice is Sold at 6000 compared to the Imported that was 10000 before 2015 I will not give kudos to any head of Govt cause they didn't do us any favor in the first place of allowing the price go up.

We make enough of those. Rice is a staple food in Nigeria, and all we need to do is make more. If there was as much demand for yam (more than supply) you'd be complaining that we too like yam.

@wristbangle i apologize on his behalf. don't take it to mean my people hates the yoruba race. i commend the patnership made by both Lagos and Kebbi state. just the same way i commend the way my state Anambra is making enviable progress in that sector.

we are just unfortunate to see this people display thier stupidity on public forum with caution. i have long observed this behaviour displayed by these cynics.

Humans are so insanely irritating or irritatingly insane. Earlier this year you guys were like rice is too expensive, what does the govt want us to eat. Now the same "dullard" govt produced rice with the help of Kebbi and Lagos states yet the moronic plagues are still complaining. What of beans, oil palm etc
One question....Can't you farm sir?

for point 5, You can't controll who the farmers decide to sell the rice to. Example of Cassava and cocoa demonstrates this. I ton of cassava was reported to yeild N60k worth of garri before the recession when $1=N165, but after Naira lose value to around N300/$ minimum, same cassava that produced N60k worth of garri can now earn the farmer at least N120k via export.

Check Nigeria customs website for list of export prohibited items. Yes the government can control who the farmers sell to.

Congrats!

Wouldn't it have been good better if a Lagosian could walk into a market any day and buy a bag of rice for 13k?
Wouldn't it have been could if other food items expenrience similar 'low cost' and made available to all?
What happens after the planned Thursday sale?

Just quizzing please.
